At least Balanced Brawl has Ike, where Melee do not. Score one for TS1. :p
As Falcon said, Ike is trash. Despite the fact that I like him as a character (not as a smash brawler)... ... He's plain trash.

I don't know, it plays the same to me, I mean the lives are the same, the percent is the same, just the characters movesets are sort of different. Maybe I'm looking at it from a different angle or something, I'm not competitive you know. O_o

And Ike is still a kool character to use if your not facing his gay match up's.
What you're naming is the core of smash itself. Obviously, there are similitaries. That's like saying Dungeon and Dragon and huh...say... Fire Emblem are the same because they both have Dragons and Swords.
And Melee > Brawl. No one can deny it. The gameplay fun, because you have to stay alert whereas Brawl... You only need to... Hey, you know all about it. Never mind.

*Note: I love Melee over Brawl... Yet I wish it would be the other way around. In case you think I'm a Melee suck-up.

Balanced Brawl is for those people that find every tactic to be cheap. It is also for those people who want to play non viable characters and complain when they lose regular tournaments. Eventually balanced brawl will become super campy. Thankfully they will fix that in one of the revisions. In the end we will get this game where you hit each other back and forth until one of you loses. Then they will fix it so you can't lose because that would hurt some people's ego.

In all seriousness though, I think balanced brawl is an interesting project that I just can't back at all. I see no real reason for it. I also fail to see how it could impove on the game at all. I will give it a chance though it is only fair

Brawl+ seems like an idea that could one day turn out okay. Unfortunately that day has not come yet.

You have to be kidding me. You can examine my posts about Brawl rules across the boards and will quickly discover that I'm no scrub. I'm in favor of allowing all infinites and generally any tactic no matter how lame, and I'm against banning anything that absolutely does not have to be banned (Meta Knight, assorted stages, etc.). The thing is that a lot of this blatant abuse, while it should obviously be allowed in standard Brawl, is still pretty terrible for the game that it exists. I mean, really, where is the gain that Pikachu autowins against Fox? This isn't about "whining". The game obviously starts on the character select screen, and if you make a bad choice, you deserve to lose. The game would still be better if there were more good choices and no flat out terrible choices though, and that's the point of Balanced Brawl. I'd say that's a pretty notable way to improve on standard Brawl.

It's not about making everyone feel good either. We like standard Brawl a lot so we wanted to invest our time and effort to make it even better. That's pretty much the entire motivation behind Balanced Brawl. I think it's a good reason, and I think seeking the very best something can be is a good enough reason to support it.

Also, as an aside to people, Ike is definitively not trash in Balanced Brawl. Having more of the cast, such as Ike, be viable in all matchups seems to be a worthy goal to me.

Bolded the truth. I know how much you have done for the community and how much you have been opposed to banning. The first paragraph was a joke. Hence the "in all seriousness" used in the next paragraph.

Like I said though, I going to give bBrawl a chance and I admire your hard work. I just can't see how it does anything but simplify the game even more. Not to mention I feel you are undertaking an impossible task. So until it is completely finished I will remain hesitant.

It does the complete opposite of "simplifying" the game. it's about more characters having more options. that doesn't sound simpler to me. and there is still a lot of work to be done, even after the first "official" release in the next week or so.

How on Earth is it getting any more simple just from the removal of infinites and giving characters a few buffs?

Do people ever think before they speak anymore, come on man.

I meant in Brawl, not bBrawl or Brawl+. (He's actually pretty good in Brawl+)

honestly, imo in terms of fun it goes:

smash64>melee>brawl>bbrawl>being diagnosed with erectile disfunction>brawl+
You ****ing win at life. I love you.
I agree with this, because of the greenish highlighted part. I can't say much about the hacked games, but obviously Smash 64 is the best of the three :p
90% of all people who love the hell out of SSB64 don't actually play it.

Just sayin~
I don't really play it because my controllers are old and decrepit, and I have nobody to play with.

good stuff imo

I wonder that about you, sometimes.

I will never be able to say that "Melee is the best zomg" because the only character I have any intention of maining is absolutely unusuable. Like, going a bottom tier against Meta Knight in Brawl gives you a better chance of winning than using Kirby in Melee.

But I will say that Melee makes a good spectator sport :]

You're horribly naive to everything in Melee.

=D

Not to say you'll win with Kirby, but he does have some options in some match ups, but Brawl bottom tiers don't have anything for them.

Also, if you're gonna use a bottom tier, **** Kirby, go Mewtwo.

How did he get to dislike it?
Oh right, because he tried it. To try it, you've got to download it.

I like the sound of Bbrawl. It's Brawl but Metaknight Snake etc don't have uber movesets and stupid mojo like chain grab to spike, and locks are taken out. Plus some characters have moves that are slightly improved.

I like it, It's what Brawl should have been.

Hey look.

Texture hacks for the win.

All it's lacking is the ability to duplicate items, use Sky Attack, two different (yet identical) versions of Water Gun, and the ability to freeze the game.
I just wanted to point out that texture hacks already DO have the ability to freeze the game. We could moveset swap him to give him water gun too. As for sky attack um..... you'll have to live with neutral air.

Edit to be on topics for once: I don't -like- BBrawl, but I sat down and played it for a while the other day with Steeler and Mr. Doom, checking out how some of the changes effect things (Water gun is still ****ing broken by the way). It's not terrible, but I just don't like hacking a game to make it "more competitive". If you want a more competitive game out there, there are plenty and it takes a lot less effort. I'm quite aware of the shallowness of competitive Brawl but I love it anyway. I just get over it and when I'm tired of Brawl, I go play KoF or Guilty Gear or BlazBlue or anything the **** else I want. As for balanced Brawl, I think it needs a lot of work, but for a game hack it's at least better and more balanced than Brawl+ which I've always felt is just awful.

I think I had a point to make but I've forgotten it.

BBrawl is doomed from the start because the people behind it refuse to make changes that actually matter. You know, the stuff that makes low tiers low tiers.

In the mean time though we get to see hilarious changes like

*BOWSER*

+2% on up-b (opening grounded hit)
Fortress is an important move for Bowser, as it is his fast OoS option -OR- a viable "backup" KO move if fresh. I suggest buffing it to further compensate for the removal of his other reliable KOs from grab release. Playtesting showed this move surprisingly effective against ranged characters due to their frequently slower grabs. (Or lack of armor in Olimar's case.)

Because if there's one thing I'm disappointed in when I play Bowser it's how awful fortress is.

Good ****ing grief.

BBrawl sucks because people refuse to learn how their low tier character plays and how to make it better. I've had discussions with many people who main low tier characters, and said they'd rather have BBrawl fix it instead of them actually dealing with their "broken" character.

Removing the chaingrabs made Pikachu and Dedede broken as **** also.

In other words HACKING A GAME IN ORDER TO BALANCE IT shouldn't change anything.

Wonderful.

You've got to download Brawl ?
l2spotwhenthere's1bor2bs.
He thought BBrawl would make the game much funner and enjoyable.
He might have disliked Brawl, but why the **** would he even try BBrawl if he liked Brawl already?
Balance, yes. But yeah, you got my point. Don't try acting like a smartass.

How'd he get to dislike BBrawl? He downloaded it. Why? Because he disliked Brawl.

I even went as far as trying it not too long ago. And the reason is because I suddenly had that thought: Hey, actually... Brawl+ just ain't the real game no more. Quite a shame. And the idea that BBrawl could've been an alternative was quickly turned down by myself. Because I thought the tweaks would've made "Brawl much better, while staying true to the initial product." Then again, I ignored the initial name. Bet it was the same for Zook. "Balanced Brawl"

In the end? I was wrong, same **** for Zook.
We were mistaken.

Ye, you were wrong. Both Thinkaman and AA clearly said Bbrawl = Brawl.
It isn't meant to be any funnier or enjoyable, as we have fun and enjoy playing it. It's meant to make it more playable.
So yeah, you were mistaken :V
