what spammer said is right. i was trying to tell people this for about 40 or so minutes, but it was extremely hard to explain everything with no voice and the microphone system broke (and the backup i had (lol i tried to be prepared for that) wasnt compatible with the speaker system drexel gave me) and people just yelled back at me like the whole time. i was trying to get everyone into the lobby to manage it easier (who wasnt in the bracket), then if someone in the bracket still had a group of ppl with them or it was their ride in the lobby, they woulda been allowed back in. the other warning was when the smashboard thread said for months that it ended at 10pm lol. no johns on that part
also, the explaination for the 6 hour late start if ppl missed it b4 lol:
1. we had thought signups would take like 30-60 minutes. they took 90-120 minutes due to the volume of ppl
2. we had originally started entering ppl right into tio, but it was waaaay to slow to do that and the excel spreadsheet we were using (to keep track of every entrant and the money they paid to make sure payouts were right). it was taking too long to enter 2 peoples names into tio in singles, then switch to doubles, and enter their team in for almost 300 people. this is also without mentioning tons of ppl werent signing up at the same time as their teammate. many ppl planned teams with ppl out of their state, so they arrived at different times. i also had to worry about setting the correct amount paid the whole time, which is espeically annoying when half of a team pays.
3. we eventually had to open up 2 signup stations to move things along and tio wouldnt have been able to do that, and we could only use a second laptop with another excel sheet goin
4. then the last 4-5 hours was literally me sitting a table the whole time working on the laptop. i had to first merge the 2 excel sheets (didnt take long though), and go through each and every entrant, find their teammate, make sure both paid, and write them down. this was to make sure every team was properly signed up, and all money was collected (its easy to miss money at an event this large and im glad to say that with almost 300 ppl, not a single entrant to my knowledge got in without paying, and 100% of all money was accounted for which is very important to make sure payouts are at their highest). then with the handful of invalid teams i found i had to find both people and straighten things out. it was for reasons like someone signing up under their real name and their teammate saying his teammate by his gamertag, or some gamertags being mixed up (i remember one instance of a teammate entered as "soda" but the person signed up as "warm soda"). i also had to deal with refunds this whole time cause ppl were getting annoyed and some left. then i think i ate a sandwhich for lunch in like 2 min cause i hadnt eaten that day yet. then i put all the teams in tio, made the bracket, seeded, done deal. it takes a while lol.
i wasnt messin around, i was literally at a table for 5 hours straight working on a laptop lol
but yea, melee ppl bring more tvs, complain less, have quicker matches, are more mature, and are a crap load more awesome.
