How likely would Genesect's chances be for the next smash? I could see Lucario getting cut for a newer Pokemon rep to promote, even if they included Mewtwo AND Genesect for Smash 4 to promote the new movie they're in. I know there's no rule that states Lucario can't coexist with Mewtwo and Genesect or Zoroark but I don't see it likely to have all 4 of them playable in the next smash.

I see the most likely scenario being two of these four Pokemon (Lucario, Zoroark, Genesect, Mewtwo)

And, out of these, I see Lucario and Mewtwo being chosen. Zoroark would be my number 3 choice, however it could be Genesect. I think he's at least worth mentioning.

I also think it's possible we get six Pokemon slots, even if it seems unlikely, it's still possible.

But my vote would be Brawl Pokes plus Mewtwo

I honestly don't think they'll ever consider cutting Lucario, when looking at the enormous backlash cutting Mewtwo caused. I'm guessing they'll throw Mewtwo in, and that'll be it, even though I would really love Genesect since he has so much potential.

If he makes it to the roster his shiny red version is a must. It would be great to pick shiny Genesect in team battle like how I used to pick Mewtwo's shiny color in Melee. But then again Sakurai could possibly **** it up and make him pink or a salmon color or something.


Actually pink Genesect would be nice.

Meowth- He keeps missing his chance, but he's still as much an icon for the series as he ever was.

I think Genesect has no chance, Zoroark I think lost its chance (although the illusion ability would have been fun), and I guess it depends on gamefreak if a pokemon from the new gen was even brought up to Sakurai.

He plays up that whole cat and mouse rivalry with pikachu. Plus having the second most screen time for a pokemon on the nearly 800 episode anime, I think beats out the one time movie stars... who haven't really boomed in popularity.

I think, like 64 and Brawl, in SSB4 Mario and Pokemon will have the same amount of slots, which is fair enough since Pokemon isn't far behind Mario in terms of sales and popularity. I think Lucario will be kept because he's still popular both as a Smash character and as a Pokemon. Mewtwo will be included both to appease the people who were upset that he was cut from Brawl and with his new form to serve as a representative of the latest Pokemon generation.

EH, I think most speculators LIKE to believe there was "backlash", but there really wasn't. Brawl still outsold Melee, and I would still consider Lucario one of the easier characters to cut, if only because of how ever-changing the Pokemon cast is in Smash.

Yeah but Mewtwo is ****ing Mewtwo, there ain't really no contest. Even after 30 gens he'd still be awesome.

Don't really expect Zoroark anymore though.

When I say backlash I'm talking about the fan reactions, not anything regarding sales.

Regardless, sales or not, Sakurai has no doubt heard about fans' craving of getting Mewtwo back in the roster. The more they can put into the game that the fans want, the more sales, if they follow this they'll outsell Brawl with SSB4. A character equals money, including a much desired character like Sonic equals tons of money. Sakurai is a guy who actually listens to the people, else we wouldn't have seen Olimar, Sonic, Dedede, Wario, Meta Knight and certainly not Lucario in Brawl. So when Sakurai knows that a cut character is the most wanted character for the next game, at least the one character who had a unique moveset, he'll probably figure out that cutting Lucario is no smart idea. Clones can be cut without too much influence, people aren't going totally nuts about Dr. Mario or Pichu, but when a unique character gets cut people will get pissed, especially when concerning a character as unique as Lucario who has the aura mechanic.

Sakurai isn't stupid, he knows what the fans want, he knows our reaction to Mewtwo getting cut, does he want to pull that stunt again? No. He already have the rights for Lucario to be in Smash Bros btw, and he has previously mentioned that the Pokémon Company is a pain to work out rights with, so cutting Lucario would in fact make for more trouble than anything else, just like cutting Mewtwo did. There's many saving factors for Lucario, even if I don't like the character I don't doubt that he'll make it into the next game, for the simple reason that Sakurai isn't stupid.

Regardless of the reasoning, it did happen. So despite Mewtwo's obvious popularity/ect, he was still "cut" (or whatever word doesn't sting as much in everyone's mind). AND, there really wasn't much backlash other than "Hey Sakurai you butt!". Brawl still outsold Melee.

@WarioFan No amount of words is going to change the fact that the backlash wasn't even that major. I'm SURE Sakurai will reconsider Mewtwo, he just doesn't "have" to. Mewtwo isn't A NECESSITY. And if the backlash doesn't affect sales, it's not that bad of a backlash.

I still would say we shouldn't be too overconfident on the likes of Lucario returning since they would probably have lower priority over other potential newcomers like they did with Mewtwo in Brawl. But yeah, next topic.

I think our Ridley predictions have more or less stemmed from the POSSIBILITY Sakurai is reconsidering his stance on him.

I've always considered Krystal a legitimate choice. She's not K Rool, but she is Popular, she could be a last minute clone, or completely unique, and she's both prominent and important enough. Plus Sakurai does like the series, and although I'm grasping at straws right meow, we did get THIS in Brawl:

Peppy: That gives me itching for some action. I want in!

Slippy: No way! Old-timers like you ride the bench. This fight's mine!

Krystal: What are you two thinking? I'm the only one who can come through in a fight like this!!

A member of the Star Fox team welcomed in Star Fox Adventures after the team met her on planet Sauria when responding to a distress signal. Krystal is capable of telepathy and is a valuable member in combat. After becoming romantically involved with Fox, their relationship gets very rocky in Star Fox Command.​

SO, at the very least, we know Sakurai sees her fighting prowess. Combine all of this together, and we have a legitimate contender. It's really just a matter of IF she'll be chosen this time.

There's a chance we could get another starfox rep, and it might end up being Krystal(as much as I hate this character). But I would rather someone from Star Wolf such as Pigma, Leon, Andrew or Panther. Just to have 2v2 starfox and starwolf team battle matches. But mostly I don't think we need another starfox character unless it's Slippy.

As for Ridley, I'm not a supporter but I would welcome him. Hopefully he makes it as a playable character this time around.

Unless Sakurai is significantly trimming down the roster (which I doubt) I suspect both Falco and Wolf will be back. Certainly neither will be cut for Krystal, who I only see making it if a new Starfox is in development that Sakurai has known about for a while, and Krystal has a relatively major role in it.

Ridley is a must, not only for me, but for Smash Bros in general. Mario has Bowser, LoZ has Ganondorf, Star Fox has Wolf, Kirby has Dedede, Metroid is supposed to have Ridley but doesn't for whatever reason. Not only that, but he's the most wanted Nintendo newcomer at this point, and he has been in every Smash Bros game to date as everything but a character and an AT (which he was apparently supposed to be in Brawl.) Next step is making him a character. As for Dark Samus who is sometimes brought up, I don't think it can be argued that Ridley has a spot over him, erm her, or it. Dark Samus could potentially be a cool addition, but I highly doubt her, I mean its, or his chances.

Krystal is a kind of maybe thing, she's kind of in between the very demanded characters and less demanded ones, if she gets in it'd be because of her popularity before Brawl's release. I wouldn't mind her getting in, as long as she keeps her Landmaster at home. About that, I can see Falco and Wolf getting new final smashes, Falco will probably get the Arwing because "Personally I prefer the air," and Wolf, well **** I dunno, I'm no Star Fox expert. Falco will probably also have his last Fox clone moves edited too, where as Wolf can easily be as he is in Brawl.

I'm not a Krystal supporter and I think a 4th Star Fox character is a stretch, but I know what are good and bad arguments to use in favor or against a character.
