Honestly, he's a prima donna who thinks he's a rock star because a few of his suggestions got true. And, a lot of these leakers have been running scared ever since the Grinch Leak happened (I'm still supporting the Banner, and will believe it will come to fruition). Speaking of which... here's another in its favor (though this is just me randomly guessing)... since the Direct is tomorrow, does this mean that Nintendo started commissioning companies to create merchandise of the completed roster ahead of time, knowing it was going to be revealed in full eventually so they could start hyping everybody before December's release?

Oh they've definitely baited out insiders. That's the sort of thing that Nintendo would probably do. The question is how much of that bait ever got outside of Nintendo? It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo attempted to catfish people they suspected to be leakers, posing as randos online to see if they'll leak.

Considering how much the game is against actual fighting, I could see Trophies being the most logical option outside of music. For IP holders, wanting their content represented a specific way is pretty important. And respectable. It's their content. They have a right to care how it's done.
I'm not saying he wouldn't, I'm saying there's no precedent. Sakurai isn't the marketing team. I'm sure he gets final say on almost everything, but Nintendo's marketing team most likely decides things like Direct dates and when to send out certain information, and from a marketer's perspective, it's typically a very dumb idea to save your ace in the hole for a mere month before the game releases. This speculation cycle is different from previous ones, though, because we didn't even know about the game until six months before release, so they could be doing things differently than in games past.
