Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I’ve been thinking. With the way smash is going with it’s DLC and Bandai Namco helping with the series I don’t see how they couldn’t add another character from Bandai. Bandai will be releasing a re-release of Tales Of Vesperia. On all platforms so why not Yuri Lowell in Smash? Time it around the release of it and reveal Yuri maybe a week or two after his release
I mean, there's nothing preventing them from adding a Tales of character. So, it's possible but adding content from it was never hard in the first place, so who knows.

Yeah they could even add Lloyd, but newer age crowd would probably be more aware of who a recent character would be thus being easier to promote and sale. Joker kind of opened the flood gates on possibilities.

Worth noting that it was Lloyd who got a Mii costume last game, not Yuri.

True I could be wrong. I’m just throwing ideas out Lloyd was also represented on gamecube first before going to other platforms. But Tales Of Vesperia is coming soon for all newer consoles and is highly regarded as one of if not the best Tales game. Who knows though Sakurai could troll us and give us Milla or something.

Nah, Sakurai actually prioritizes main character before everyone else.

I'm not at all a fan of Yuri's design. Or his character for that matter from what little I've seen in his crossovers. Lloyd is far better designed but I have no idea what his character is like. Just my opinion but I would far prefer Lloyd over Yuri. Way I see it, it could be an Alucard deal. Alucard is by far the most popular character in the Castlevania series but Simon Belmont is a legacy Nintendo character and was chosen over him and Alucard was put in as an Assist. Think the same might be done for Yuri. Lloyd the playable. Yuri the Assist. I dunno. Maybe I'm biased because Lloyd Bros have always been tight with the Isaac gang but, eh, I think Lloyd is just overall a better choice gameplay wise.

I on the other hand love Yuris design and his character. Perfect bad ass dude that rocks long purple hair. From parts of the game Ive seen, Yuri is a riot

Milla was a main in Xillia or Co-Main along with the male protagonist. Forgot his name lol.

  • To each their own. I understand a respect your opinion. I first played Vesperia in the tale series so it might be a lil biased thinking of wanting a character from that series in. I’m just trying to think how Nintendo would want to approach this as well. I did play Symphonia too and loved it(The second one sucked so badly) so if either gets in I’m happy.

Lloyd also has the boon of a potentially incredibly unique moveset just taking him at first glance. Dual Swords is something we don't have in Smash yet. That alone makes him a far more intriguing character than Yuri whom has what could be considered a Marth-like set up.

As much as I hate the "Sword Wielder" argument I have to say that it would be better if they could add in sword users who are more visually differing compared to the other sword users. Hopefully that could appease anti-sword people.

I’d like to see something of that sort or different bladed weapon users.

I'm glad to see we have so many gunslingers this time around.

I for one am getting a little tired of swordsman. Though that being said I'd still be down for Travis.

Meanwhile I'm starting to get more comfortable with the idea of Sans as a newcomer.

I'll be honest, that would kinda make me happy to see, as likely or unlikely as it is.

no bad person we don’t ask for Hell in heaven. Lol I’m not for Sans cause of the many many better characters available to put in it. Shantae will most likely take the spot if they choose an indie character to represent. But I’m just teasing and respect your opinion. Watch next reveal is Sans and I eat my words lol

2B and her down smash is sitting on people. So it kills.

So we’re talking about Tales reps huh?

While I definitely have another character I’d prefer as the optimal 2nd Bandai Namco Rep (you can probably figure out who)...

If we were to get a Tales Rep, I’d take Lloyd over Yuri.

And before you guys keep going on a running rampage, I’ll explain what this statement implies.

Simply put, DLC requires far less development staff than the amount needed for the base game. The only stuff Sakurai’s team would be working on right now are 6 fighters (1 who is nearly complete), 5 Stages, a couple of Mii Costumes, and a couple of soundtracks. Compare that to the base game where you needed several more artists, designers, programmers, composers, etc. that needed to work on 100+ Stages, 76 Total Fighters, 800+ Music, CGI cutscenes, Graphics, Art Pieces, and a lot more.

It’s understandable why the team would shrink as a result because there would be no point in keeping so many people in charge of much less content.
Precisely. I mean, honestly, DLC on a whole requires a lesser budget, so of course there'd be less staff anyway!

Not only that, but it's not like this is even unheard of for other fighting games.

We only need to worry if Nintendo and/or Sakurai themselves confirm the end of DLC. And I mean, absolutely final like they did with Cloud and company. No such thing has actually been said.

At least it means Sakurai acknowledges the characters...

Mii Fighter costumes are still better than Assist Trophies, as you can still play as them to an extent...

I never get why people think Mii Costumes are terrible...
Well, let's think about it. You yourself have said that having Steve as a Mii costume would be a waste. Obviously, it holds some sense of devaluing.

And honestly, mii costumes obviously aren't as fun as having the actual character in for gameplay and character reasons.

Morning buddy. How are you. Care to join our discussion on DLC options or speculations?
For me Bandai will not put Lloyd, simple fact: Heavy Sword user again.
Heihachi is literaly another Ryu but he has less moves to use. So no.

They have so much more to use, not talking just about Agumon.

Agumon, Klonoa, Kos-Mos, Don-chan, Cosmos Prince, Mametchi. Dig Dug, etc

Though luck guys, we won't get Cloud, he'll be just another sword fighter. Now who's ready for some Chocobos?
