Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I think people expect Pokemon sales from Yokai Watch since it is a similar game (warning: I did not say the same although some people may say that).

and aside from the stuff in the west, last i checked yokai watch 4 was climbing up famitsu's most wanted charts for the past few months. japan still likes yokai watch, it just isn't as popular as it once was. but nothing truly can be, aside from probably like, baseball in japan.

and yokai watch 4 is still a switch exclusive game, nintendo has close ties to level-5, including publishing the games in the west, yadda yadda all the other reasons i usually give when talking about yokai watch in smash bros

So which Link do people feel is the best out of the three, and which one is considered the worst?

TBH I can't choose between BotW Link and YL for best. BotW has insane reach and fantastic zoning mixed with all the good stuff that new bomb brings. YL has the zoning with seemingly less reach but is hecka fast to make up for it.

I feel TL might be the worst by comparison? NOT a bad characters by any means, just not nearly as good as the other two Links.

Young link feels the most annoying out of the three because bombs just activate on their own and the fire arrows are more aggressive.

The fire arrows definitely make me lean towards YL. Those suckers pack a punch, and they're fast.

However, I still feel like BotW Link might have more potential. The set-ups and kills I've seen with his new BotW bomb look like they could be nasty in the right hands. Plus, BotW Link has range, especially on Up-Smash and Forward-Smash, and they come out fast as well. Downside to them though is that the endlag seems to leave him open for punishes, so YL may win out after all because of his speed? BotW not having Hookshot doesn't help either, now that I think about it.

i think using a series' popularity in the west as a reason for why a series shouldn't get into smash bros is a pretty bad way to say a series shouldn't be represented. like, dragon quest is very much not popular in the west (outside of france i think) but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be in smash bros. its still well known over here, and its popularity in japan most likely trumps all other factors

yokai watch isn't insanely popular in the west (outside of europe), but trying to factor toy sales into it is very much a pointless factor when it comes to smash bros. and it not doing well in the west doesn't stop it from still doing fairly well toy-wise AND game-wise in japan. ultimately, if you're coming up with excuses to say a series shouldn't be in smash bros, you just don't like the games.

and ye i know i have also done that, i'm not saying i'm exempt from it lol. i'd rather there be no more new pokemon stuff because i dislike pokemon, and i don't want shatae because i don't like her games at all. biases exist and you can admit to having them without trying to make yourself seem in the right

Speed has a huge advantage at higher levels in my opinion because most players will punish moves with end lag which puts YL above BOTW link. I think if BOTW Link's bombs behaved like Snake's grenades then he would be a touch above YL because of weight category but I get why they changed BOTW Links bomb... It was to match the game but unfortunate nerf.

I like the idea of Smash becoming a "Gaming All Stars" type of crossover.
I wouldn't mind this, but for me personally I kinda like the Nintendo theming, which still hasn't been broken. All of the third-parties had notable Nintendo console appearances (yes, even Joker).

I mean, 3rd party characters have more or less become a highlight of the series. I say go all the way with it and bring more characters from the repective companies in.

I personally feel that Toon Link is the most underrated of the three Link's (I may even go as far as to say he's one of the most underrated characters in the whole game). He isn't really being explored as much as the other two Link's, but from those who did use him, I've heard a lot of good things about him and his potential.

He still has a lot of his tools from the previous game as well as some added buff's. I'm hoping he gets some more tournament presence soon once more people try him out and play him more seriously.

I'm considering picking him up simply because he's my favorite Link. I like his kit a lot too, even if it isn't as flashy as BotW's or YL's.

Depends on how you look at it. From what I see, almost everyone says :ultyounglink: is the best (although I think a bit differently), :ultlink: is just going unrecognized, and :ulttoonlink: is getting forgotten only because of Young Link. I got triggered.

I think they're all good, but Young Link isn't that much better than the other two, if he even is.

There's a lot more to Link than just his bombs, such as even more range, and Toon Link still beats out the other two in terms of movement (except fall speed & initial dash speed), so I would they all excel a lot in something. Well, that's why I thought of using them all anyway.

if you're going for all the spirits you have basically no reason to miss out unless you're incredibly busy for the christmas downtime

can't even excuse people for being lazy, its the switch
Of course there are reasons why people would miss them. 3 days only, at specific times, once every 4 hours, starting at 1:00 (that's what it says in my game). Now it's possible they'll appear more frequently, but I'm guessing those are just the guaranteed times.

His attacks are too fat and :ultkrool: can't react to him very well.

And then I end up look like a scrub and my wife snickers at me D:

First of all how far back did you just dig for those posts
Second, I'm European and whenever I saw Yokai Watch stuff, it was warming the shelves. One store had an entire display dedicated to Yokai Watch. That store went bankrupt a while later
I was just looking for discussion regarding a character I actually care about.
I see. That still doesn't really change the fact Europe has a more positive take on the franchise in addition to getting prioritized regarding it because of that. Europe got translations for the beginning of the Hailey Anne arc in languages like French while America had to wait longer for that and more recently, Europe got YKW3 localized 2 months before America. Usually, Europe is the one that has to wait longer for localized releases of games.

TBH I feel like TL should win out just for the top tier face game he has:

The amount of memes and reaction gifs that were born from Wind Waker are part of why I adore that game.

At least he didn't end up marrying K.Rool.

Persona Q2 made me cry, but it's not really a notable release.

We were just talking about Toon Link.
you honestly going to tell me that toon link is a 100% new character

he's just different enough for us to call him Link But Different. i'm like 90% sure that young link is more different from normal link than toon link is in ultimate

anyway there should be as many yokai watch reps as there are pokemon reps
As awesome as that would be, that's just gonna be a fantasy and even if it did come true, we'd have to be fair to all the other popular monster collector RPGs that have been on Nintendo consoles like Shin Megami Tensei, Fossil Fighters, Dragon Quest Monsters, Digimon, etc.

Okay, people, you are not allowed to complain about :ultlucina::ultchrom:, they are just Marth but different, they don't count, Fire Emblem has five characters.

I also am kinda thinking that they should go all the way with the “Gaming All-Stars” vibe and keep adding 3rd parties via DLC. We already what...10 characters from not-Nintendo?

Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Snake, Cloud, Ryu, Ken, Bayo, Simon, Richter, Joker...so actually 11. Wew lad, two games ago we had 2!

The more I think about it, I feel pretty confident in Lloyd Irving and at least one Capcom pick. The Capcom pick could be Dante, Leon, Amaterasu, or a left field pick, but I feel good about those. Dante and Leon come from some of biggest Capcom series left without being in Smash (and I personally feel that the whole packages with music and a stage seem to lend themselves to “expanding” the Smash universe), and they could be amazing picks. Leon isn’t as flashy, but just the fact that he suplexes zombies is enough of a win for me. Ammy is no slouch either, but regardless Capcom has a treasure trove of great picks.

I’m still feeling confident in most if not all of the picks being 3rd parties. If, and that’s a big if, Spirits disconfirm characters, then I have no doubt it’ll be all 3rd parties.
