Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I don't doubt it.
It makes perfect sense. I can actually see "oh goofy Sakurai" being the reason here.
The ASC has a Spirit so he was obviously in their mind. This explains it perfectly well.

Actually, all Online icons for NPCs are based on Spirits.

Hence why there's one for the Absolutely Safe Capsule.

Ngl I always get scared when I see someone with an Isaac or Geno icon/mii online bc I feel like they're gonna unleash all the pent up rage from their boy getting shunted for the past decade onto me

Blizzard has a lot of iconic characters for different genres. I love RPGs to death, but they've always been niche. It's amazing how many speculated characters are all RPG characters.

Yes, clearly Buzz Buzz and Ness' Father were bigger priorities for Earthbound spirits.

Is it though?

When this joke clicked for me, I laughed, it made total sense! It's something I could totally see the Spirits team pulling.
It's a little reference for real Earthbound fans and still implies Porky to have a presence.

Meanwhile Sakurai's crying in the corner while at the balancing team "I'm sorry son, people are saying I pamper you too much, I'm afraid daddy can't let you get as many toys as you usually get this year". Kirby however has no ****ing clue what's happening and just hugs Sakurai and pats his head to make him feel better

Porky would be really cool but I can’t deny that he Sylux, and Poochy are just bandwagon characters for not having Spirits, there’s only so many characters you can forget after all.

If we’re expected to get Joker type characters then I doubt, there’ll even be any promotion characters this time around.

Also sup everyone? Been out of my country for the holidays.

That's why the ASC = Porky theory makes sense to me.

Of all Mother/Earthbound characters, they don't have one of the ones who had the most influence on the plot on the series?
The one who appeared in Smash before as a boss and even a trophy in a game that he wasn't featured in at all?

While literally every other boss in Brawl is given representation in some form?

There's no "forgetting" there. There was a conscious choice.
And the simple answer is the Absolutely Safe Capsule.

I think it's already too much to assume that a spirit absolutely deconfirms a character, but to assume the lack of a spirit somehow confirms them is two steps too far. It's an assumption based on an assumption, and so it's a very shaky argument to base a character prediction off of.

Besides, even with the absurd amount of spirits in the game they're still going to miss a few, and not always because they were "forgotten". Perhaps they really did think the Absolute Safe Capsule and Yarn Poochy were adequate - I don't think they even made a huge deal out of Poochy's importance until Wooly World came along anyway. Maybe they didn't think Sylux was a big enough character to get in yet.

Joker type characters absolutely can be promotional characters and Joker himself may be one of them, especially if the P5 rerelease is Switch exclusive.

Just saying if Sylux makes it in, Metroid is gonna be the new FE/KI of bias accusations.

Granted, Metroid is complete anyway roster wise.

if the absolutely safe capsule is supposed to represent porky then a. why does porky get this abstract representation when we already have multiple mario, bowser, yoshi, k rool, and ridley spirits each representing different aspects of the characters, why couldn't they have had like, mother 2 porky and then the absolutely safe capsule to represent mother 3 porky. even better they could have had mother 2 porky EVOLVE into the absolutely safe capsule, that would have been funny

and b. its just a really dumb and confusing decision to make

It could be why, but it does feel like a pretty big stretch imo. You’re making an assumption to explain away an assumption based on an assumption.
Granted, I’m not saying Porky is likely. Far from it.

The Mother content was treated as tongue-in-cheek, just like it's source material. Your dad is a phone. (and one of the best support spirits in the game)
