It says "on" Inkling not "with" Inkling. I'm wondering what character he wants to combo Inkling with.

Third party and first party aren't the same thing. Nintendo owns those two. No creative output from a western outsider needed. (K. Rool's creator wasn't even in the know)

I'll believe in a third western character when I see it. Sakurai wants to work closely with the creator of the character. Makes sense that it remained Japanese owned thus far.
