Apparently a 4chan leak had been deleted shortly after it was posted, which has some speculating means something.

My counter?
Real leaks on 4chan existed that HAVEN'T been deleted, most notably the one that included Piranha Plant in the Smash Direct for November.
So what would make this one special instead of perhaps the original poster deleting it themselves to make it seem like damage control?

We'll get a Nintendo Direct before Piranha Plant releases. Why? Because they'll need to date the next wave of amiibo releases. This is a common pattern for Nintendo. I believe it's Ken, Pichu and Toon Link that are coming next. In that Direct, we will likely find out which character comes after Joker.

if you see the [TN1] bit on that sentence, SourceGaming noted that this was Sakurai doing his research on the interest on Final Fantasy and its characters. not if it was from the ballot.
which is why they avoided using terms like poll or ballot from the interview.

I assume they meant that they would swap between the characters per move. In SA, the Animal Buddies do that (land moves use a Hamster, air moves use an owl, and water moves use a fish).

Basically, you mostly play as Rick, and you turn into Kine underwater and in Coo when you move in the air.

My idea is to use the Thing as the base of the character, with the other members being quick and temporal transformations for the special moves (Mr.Fantastic for Side b, Invisible Woman for Down B and Human Torch for Up B), with the four joining their forces in the Final Smash.

Yet it was completely true aside from the fact Plant is in a pot rather than a "car". :V

the "someone else" was actually something much more earlier

they actually went out of the way to delete the rumor, which why it had to be dugged up again

I don’t believe anything anyone says about the ballot unless Nintendo puts out the complete results in their entirety.

Fan pools aren't a good way to predict the result of an official pool's results reliably anyway. I hated how a lot of people treated them like gospel pre-last direct.

you know they didn't pick the choices based on the raw amount of votes right?
there's a reason why it was yet another poll of suggestions like previous Smash polling like the Smash 2 and Smash DOJO one.
not a lot of other voted characters ever made it to the game right after it was completed

There may be a vocal group, but a huge part of the ballot came from people who never talk on social media.

In fact, we can see most of the time in this board that there tends to be more guests than users online.

Copyright problems made the Final Fantasy stuff harder to add.

I have realized that Female Robin isn’t in the Smash Ultimate opening movie at all...yet both Ikes and Corrins are...huh...that and the 3rd parties aren’t segregated from the Nintendo characters this time (which is great)

Surprised about Sonic not doing the same, since he has a lot of popular poses that involve the hand gestures.

And all three characters are unique as well as from different series, unlike Capcom and Konami
