I sadly have to agree, and is kinda what I feel when I see discussion against third parties.

If not all of these, then almost certainly the first five, going by the voices in the trailer. I imagine those four party members will also feature in an All-Out Attack final smash.

Igor would almost certainly be a Spirit.

I'd also add Caroline and Justine (as a single Spirit that can be upgraded), Sojiro and Sae to that list.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised at this point if all the dlc are third party characters.

Joker wasn't exactly unpredictable as some people believe he was. His reveal in particular was because while we wanted a TGA reveal, we weren't sure it was even gonna happen(shout out to all the people trying to rub on other's faces that they were right about no Smash announcement minutes before Joker stole the show).
And, like, every Atlus fan knew that if it was ever to get something, it would be Persona and Joker was the obvious pick and fan favorite for DLC. His reveal was a pleasent surprise and a "wow they really did that, huh", which was a great contrast with the majority of this speculation period that was fueled by leaks

DLC seems to be pretty much going in the same direction as last time though, and by that I mean is that I don't think it'll leak unless we ever have a repeat of Royu. My expectations towards Smash DLC are basically that we'll see more pleasent surprises like Joker. I don't think we'll get "Smash fanbase picks" though: Banjo, Isaac, Geno or whoever else. I believe we'll see more characters that cater to a wider audience aka more Third Parties with maybe a Corrin thrown into the mix.
But the thing is, we never had Nintendo picks before, and if we did, we don't know who they are. We can't predict them unlike we tried to with Sakurai because our sample size is limited to a single Wildcard. And even still, Joker feels like a Sakurai pick at the same time and I definitely think we'd still get him if Sakurai was picking the character.

Fils-Aime explained that Sakurai and the team working on Ultimate’s DLC don’t necessarily see characters from franchises not typically associated with Nintendo as a limiting factor when it comes to Smash Bros.

“Mr. Sakurai, he's not only a student of Nintendo franchises, and obviously he's had his hand in a few, but he's a student of video games from a total perspective,” Fils-Aime said. “And so he's been the driver in really thinking about what type of character coming into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
would bring just a whole different level of fun and enjoyment for the player. That's been the approach. That's the thinking."

“I hope the fans are excited by the announcement of Joker. I hope they're looking forward to the future announcements," he added. "I hope it gives them confidence to just go buy the Fighter Pass. That way they can get the latest fighter as soon as it's available and continue building out their roster for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.”

Is also why im slightly confident on Dark Souls stuff...because Dark souls have a very concrete and unique style, and a very and concrete unique gameplay that could immediatly make any character more than just "dude with armor"

And also a huge fanbase that isn't necesarilly interested in smash.... yet.

Tbh, I definitely understand the feeling of, like, wanting one of the NES/SNES FF characters in your Nintendo crossover only to get Cloud instead but at the same time I'm not gonna act like Cloud came to my house, kicked me in the balls and ****ed my wife.

Also, at this point I care more about introducing as many new franchises as possible rather than expanding on existing ones. Like, the only series I'd like to see more characters from are the ones who still only have their protagonists(which is basically Xenoblade, F-Zero and every 3rd Party lol)

Also, for those upset that Joker upsets "Appeared on Nintendo" stuff, Joker is one of the three main protagonists in Persona Q2, which is a 3DS exclusive. That's technically more than Cloud had, as Cloud only had cameos in spin-offs and minor playable roles on Nintendo consoles. Joker is straight up one of the playable main characters in a Nintendo platform exclusive game.

Here's what I think the main P5 cast's Spirit Battles will be.

Ryuji = Captain Falcon (Black alt) - Floor is Electrified; Enemy has "Slow with Super Armour" trait.
Morgana = Small Incineroar (Black and White alt) - Stage has strong winds
Ann = Zero Suit Samus (Red alt) - Floor is Lava
Yusuke = Bowser Jr. - Floor is frozen, Enemy's FS Meter builds quickly
Makoto = Lucina (Black alt) and Wario (Red Biker) - Wario likes to use Side Specials
Futaba = Inkling Girl (Base) and Joker (Base) - Inkling avoids combat, Joker gets random periodic buffs as long as Inkling survives, you have to beat both to win
Haru = Zelda (OOT Zelda alt) - Enemy starts with a Super Scope, and likes to use Specials
Akechi = Shulk (Dunban alt) and Pit (reinforced by Dark Pit if Pit is defeated)

I feel Joker is a Cloud scenario. Both characters come from companies that have or had major ties to Nintendo and they chose the character the mainstream is the most familiar with from those series/companies

I've just heard from my brother that it works super smooth for him. Got plenty of 1v1s and had no issues. He admitted Quick Play has some issues, but Background Play actually does a pretty good job of getting what you want. Lobbies are also pretty decent from what I've heard. I think with a few QoL patches, the online sounds like it'd at least be decent.

I'm really thinking we might see more Guest than we might think.

I think it'll all be guest characters, but the breakaway point is that the DLC will be from series not typically considered "Nintendo". I don't think this means the DLC will be series thats never been with Nintendo, just series you don't typically associate with Nintendo.
Persona, for example has been with Nintendo, but is considered a Sony franchise.
I think this helps Sora and Doomguy, and it may hurt DQ. Of course, this could be PR talk from Reggie.

Potentially. I haven't tried it myself yet, but it sounds like it could be at least ARMs and Splatoon 2 levels of online if they get some QoL patches in there (having to completely back out to change characters is kind of annoying).

My Music desperately needs a “Set All to 0” button.

I played 4.5 hours last night and only got most of the songs set. That could probably have been set up better.

I did just pull Link into Training on Great Plateau for a few mintues though and my jaw dropped. It looks absolutely gorgeous, and I cant wait to get home tonight and finish the music so I can actually get to the game.

Yeah, I played on that stage during the Best Buy demo. Really cool stage.

A lot of characters.

I don't see how wanting first parties somehow has to be an attack on third parties because you don't want your favorite to not get in instead of them. I just like Nintendo characters.

There's quite a few characters I'd like to see that I don't particularly care about personally but would please a lot of people and make some series feel more full, for example, Waddle Dee or Dixie Kong. (I actually do like Dixie, but not nearly as much as I did K. Rool.) and first party characters that I do want and would feel bugged if they just never got in, like Elma, who I think would be so fun but really don't think will have any other chance of getting into Smash if not this game's DLC at some point. I don't feel like their spot would be stolen by anyone, but them not even being considered just for being first party would be really disappointing to me.

Of course I'm going off topic, I just dislike how the conversation turned into "There's no reason to want first party characters"

The worst one I've heard is "I shouldn't have to unlock everyone when I paid for the game". Most other companies would have bastardized Ultimate in an attempt to monetize it as much as possible, having to spend the first two days or so unlocking a roster of this size is a fantastic situation given how the industry is today.

Not for fighting games it isn't. Almost no fighting game makes you unlock characters anymore.

i don't have the game yet.

It's bad, really bad. I'm sure I sound like a broken record at this point talking about how bad it is, but:

- In Quickplay you can not guarantee to play with For Glory rules, or any rules. You will be put into 1v1s if you select FFA and FFA if you select 1v1s a lot of time. It doesn't even seem to try to queue you up with people using the same rules, just picks the first possible match and picks a random person's ruleset.

- In the event you get into a game without your "preferred" ruleset, you can not leave beforehand. You have no choice but to wait it out. Don't try to SD or AFK, you will get banned.

- You can not switch characters inbetween games. You have to exit out and requeue, giving you the chance to get back into games without your preferred ruleset

- There are public lobbies, but only one group can play a match at a time, so if you're trying to play 1v1s you will be spectating and sitting in line for a long time just to possibly end up only playing one round

As long as you aren't similar enough to another character to be an echo, you're probably fine enough.
