Sylux to me feels to me like putting the cart before the horse. It has existed previously and even had a playable appearance (which is admittedly rare in the franchise), but when you get down to it they are essentially a nothing character relying almost completely on promises that have not delivered yet. Outside of that Hunters appearance where it was one character among many, the only thing its done is stalk Samus in one cameo and steal a Metroid in another, that's it, and since there's no payoff to any of that yet it feels like it's just all buildup with nothing to show for it.
That's why despite being a Metroid fan Sylux barely excite me when discussion is on him. Right now it's all focused on 'it's going to be important we promise!', and that's not interesting when it comes to Smash. It's hard to care about something that's going to be important over something that is currently important. For example, with Dixie Kong she never felt like the conversation is warped around a character's reliance on an upcoming game that's just a title at the moment, instead you have people talking about a character that has long since established herself and people want her for what she's done and what she can do. Sylux I feel needs to be a more concrete character like that, or at least prove itself to bring something to the table despite its lack of characterization at the current time, because as of right now its presence hinges too much on possibilities rather then certainties.
