Uh... yeah, if this is a real post xenother made, then I'm pressing X to doubt everything they said. No way there was a test build with a DLC character way back in august when the base game itself hasn't even gone gold and Steve was nothing more then a name on the table (if he's even in in the first place). Perhaps they are being misled or (hopefully not) lying.

This honestly seems like a list that could end up coming true.

Doesn't mean I like it... at all.
-All 3rd party characters. Especially with Nintendo choosing DLC, I doubt they will put in NO ONE from their own franchises.
-I don't like Erdrick, Steve or Yuri (I prefer Lloyd) as Smash characters.
-I'm neutral on Geno.
-Banjo is the only one that midly interests me.

So overall, it's a plausible list, but definitely not one I'd like.

I think Tails would be our first semi-clone/unique character if Sonic ever branches out from just Sonic in Smash. If Echo fighters return for the next game, I could see it fairly likely both Tails and Shadow make it.

If a Sonic character is going to be DLC for Ultimate, it will be Tails. But a 2nd Sonic character is in incredible doubt as of right now. So I can't exactly count on it as much as I would like to.

The problem is, at least in "Modern" Sonic games, Tails's role has downgraded so badly, it's not even funny. But, then again, most of the Sonic characters have to the point where the plot of Sonic Forces pretty much was "Sonic's captured?! Welp, we're boned!" where Tails was crapping himself at the sight of a Phantom Ruby copy of Chaos 0 when he easily defeated Chaos 4 in Sonic Adventure. The previous main story in the series made him the "damsel" in distress.

This isn't a bunch of angsty teenagers writing garbage Five Nights at Freddy's fanfiction; these are grown men who have worked with these characters for years who suddenly decided to prioritize shifting gears every time a new game comes out because they're afraid of how the internet is going to react and think "We need to push the hedgehogs more" like WWE did with Roman Reigns before his leukemia came back.

Most likely, Shadow would be the 2nd Sonic character to be selected, due to ease and also relevancy due to how pushed he still is in the games. Sonic Mania was far more popular and beloved than Sonic Forces, but Sonic Team still wants you to support Sonic Forces-like projects, where characters like Tails are jokes, and will likely not be granted an opportunity to be playable in Smash Bros..
