Unpopular Opinion: The whole Bowsette thing is incredibly dumb. It's almost as if a chunk of the internet forgot Rule 63 was already a thing, or they're entirely new to the concept and haven't heard of genderbending. There are superior examples of Rule 63 out there that don't have perilous consequences that are seemingly ignored with the Super Crown meme. Also, Koopa-Hime is objectively better-sounding if we want consistency, but I digress.

And that is my hot take, folks. I hope no one's offended for my viewpoint. Wanna screw the tiddy turtle tyrant? Be my guest!

The only examples of the trend that I like are "Boosette" and Princess Chain Chomp, since you can argue that the former comes from a regular Boo unless a specific piece is intended to be "Queen" Boo. They also tend to look nicer since the minions are gender-ambiguous in the main games while less so in the RPG spin-offs. It adds a bit of mystique to them (if my fascination for Phos is any indication).

My qualm with "Yoshi needs a second rep" is that all these under-represented franchises have characters popular enough, long-standing enough, for Smash.

The Wario franchise barely crosses over with mario, usually it’s just wario himself. Almost all of yoshi’s character also make appearances in Mario games. Hell, poochy was even in Odyssey.

By the time Wario got in Brawl, it wasn't just a platformer series he had, but WarioWare, which is significantly different from the Mario franchise. The Wario Land/World stuff had remote similarities, but was fairly different. It(Land) was also less tied to Mario characters options-wise.
