This style would definitely make sense. I don’t think a gameplay reveal is out fo the question though. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Sakurai also stated back in smash 4 that hey hadn’t worked on DLC prior to the game releasing, but then only half a year or so later we got Mewtwo. If sakurai’s statement about fighers taking, at minimum, 8 months of dev time to make is true then they must have worked on Mewtwo prior to the game releasing. Furthermore, if a square character is revealed at TGA, then negotiations must have started months in adavance, which would also long up with Vergeben’s leak timeframe. Around June is when I’m guessing. If this is the case, then it would make sense if they got a head-start on the character, enough to give them a gameplay trailer. Those are just my two-cents anyway.Smash could definitely get a reveal, even if it isn’t gameplay. With it being the night before it releases in North America, I would expect maybe a launch trailer, but then absolutely hint at a new DLC character.
For those of you who remember the Negan reveal for Tekken, think of something like that but with Smash.
A nice launch trailer, but maybe the flaming Smash logo zooms out a little bit, and then you just see:
- some guy with the keyblade
- some red sword and a welsh dude saying, “Let’s show then a thing or three!”
- Sephiroth walking out of flames, heading toward the Smash logo
Anything like that COULD happen, but it would stand out as different from any Smash reveal in its history. It’s typical of other fighting games though, so I wouldn’t entirely rule it out.
My prediction is that if there IS a DLC reveal, it will be a 3rd party character that a lot of people would know.
Then again, I do feel that a Metroid Prime reveal of some sort would be fitting, but I also feel like Nintendo would save that...Bayonetta 3 could also work. I mean, I don’t think it’s entirely out of the question that there’s more than one reveal. I just don’t know how likely it would be.
