Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I’m wondering, how many fighting games have done an ‘everyone is here’ thing? The most prominent examples in my head are Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Killer Instinct, but what others?
The King of Fighters 98 and 2002 try to do this, but they both missed several characters until their UM updates.

Very cool. He/She is now my most wanted for DLC
I am fine with anyone. except Madden Player as an Activision rep.

I would find Crash the coolest pick for me, but everyone else would be dope too.

Todd Howard jokes are funny because he's a weird little man and encourages this perception of him. The FO76 stuff was bad but I don't have enough of a connection to anything Bethesda does to feel strong emotion out of it. Todd is just...a character.

Okay, hypothetical time. If the fighters pack were five characters from a single series, what series' would you be fine with that happening to, and who would your choices be?

I'd be fine with a Fire Emblem pack as discussed earlier in the thread but one that comes to mind is a Street Fighter pack. Chun-Li, Dan, M. Bison, Vega, and Sakura would be worth it for me. Full bias.
Rhythm Heaven: Tap Trial Girl, Rhythm Reporter, Karate Joe, Chorus Kids, Tibby
Pokemon: Eevee, Victini, Meowstic, Stunfisk, Wurmple (Stunfisk and Wurmple would be joke characters)
Kid Icarus: Viridi, Hades, Medusa, Phosphora, Magnus

For the first Marvel character, i am between these three options:

-Iron Man: one of the most popular characters created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, with a potential for a moveset and cool alternate costumes.

-The Fantastic Four: If done right, the moveset could mix each member into one character (maybe using the Thing as the main base, and the other three as special moves), making a distinctive and unique moveset. These characters made Marvel what it is today, and Stan Lee wanted to see them first getting in the MCU from all the Fox properties before passing away. Sakurai could also pull a Megaman on them, which would help a lot.

-Spider-Man: the biggest character made by the company, created by Stan Lee and used in 95% of Marvel’s media as a whole. One of the most likely.

I want to quickly talk about the X-Men: while the team was created by Stan Lee, Wolverine itself wasn’t. I wouldn’t put him as the first Marvel rep and more so after Stan Lee’s death. If Marvel gets a rep in Smash, the first should be one created by Stan Lee, as a small tribute to him. Wolverine can join after that, of course.

Once you ask politely. :p

Fair enough but theres no denying that Wolverine and Venom are the moneymakers... not that they'd be the ones that current marvel lets into smash because current marvel DESPISES Wolverine and Venom. Yada Yada Toxic Something or other Blah Blah Blah Gwen Stacy Something Something Deal with the Devils are ok if they give Joe Quesada a chance to watch spiderman screw his daughter.

Stan Lee didn't create Captain America.

So, Super Skrull?
I would actually like Super Skrull too.

Think of it more like Duck Hunt: you mostly play as the dog and the duck (in my concept the Thing), but one of the special moves can summon the men from Wild Gunner [In my Fantastic Four concept, it is expanded to each special move turning you for a minor time into one of the other three members (Mr.Fantastic for Side Special, Invisible Woman for down special and Human Torch for Up Special)].

Now that you point it out, it is a bit weird that we never got a fantastic four member in MvC. I know Super Skrull was added to kinda represent the entire FF moveset-wise, but it still feels a bit strange that Doom doesn’t have his main rivals.

I don’t have one, as my friend showed sent me this picture. I’ll ask him if he has it.
Don't want to burst a bubble but those are easy to fake. Besides, I don't think strikes mention the claimer on video front.
Edit: Also, it's not the claimer who blocks, it's the service provider. I'm assuming it's YT in this case.

Tbh while I don't know about Fantastic 4 in Smash as one character, I would love Victor Von Doom as a Marvel rep.

Man, I don't give a rat's *** about whether they're one-offs.
If they're popular and iconic and have great moveset potential they have more than enough to justify their Smash inclusion.

Sheik herself, is a one-off, who served as basically a walking tutorial and random plot-twist later.
You cannot tell me that without Smash, Sheik would've even scratched the surface of popularity that is Skull Kid and his stupid face moon. I mean, Majora's Mask is literally an icon, as in he's on the logo of his game.
That's completely fair, but there are mediating factors. Sheik is a variation of Zelda and she got in right after OOT was released, before it was clear she was a one off. Skull Kid and Midna's games are at least 10 years old now.

BTW, I'm not saying they don't deserve inclusion. I would support Midna, and as a Geno supporter I have no grounds to complain about "one offs" getting in. I'm just saying there's no obvious pick for another rep. I actually think both LoZ and Kirby deserve another rep, I'm just not sure who it should be.

Super Skrull was added because Capcom couldn’t make Human Torch work for technical issues with the fire, and Marvel offered the devs to use Super Skrull to compensate for that.

I know. Apparently Human Torch was in a playable state at one point in development. Would have liked to see some footage of that.

Smash could definitely get a reveal, even if it isn’t gameplay. With it being the night before it releases in North America, I would expect maybe a launch trailer, but then absolutely hint at a new DLC character.

For those of you who remember the Negan reveal for Tekken, think of something like that but with Smash.

A nice launch trailer, but maybe the flaming Smash logo zooms out a little bit, and then you just see:

- some guy with the keyblade
- some red sword and a welsh dude saying, “Let’s show then a thing or three!”
- Sephiroth walking out of flames, heading toward the Smash logo

Anything like that COULD happen, but it would stand out as different from any Smash reveal in its history. It’s typical of other fighting games though, so I wouldn’t entirely rule it out.

My prediction is that if there IS a DLC reveal, it will be a 3rd party character that a lot of people would know.

Then again, I do feel that a Metroid Prime reveal of some sort would be fitting, but I also feel like Nintendo would save that...Bayonetta 3 could also work. I mean, I don’t think it’s entirely out of the question that there’s more than one reveal. I just don’t know how likely it would be.

Me too tbh.

I also liked Galactus mode in the Ultimate version, although i wish that it was longer and expanded to a few other modes.

Friendship ended with ALUCARD. Now SHANOA is my best friend.
you really need to play Order of ecclessia. Exploration wise, there are tons of cool maps layouts and locales, although suffer a little from room copypasting and lots of corridors, in that regard Symphony of teh night is still superior.
But gameplay wise, Imo OoE manages to correct a ton of previous castlevanias problems. the combat is pretty fun and the bosses are amazing, and teh final boss fight is *italian chef kiss*
Maybe the video used Disney music/footage to disguise itself. Assuming no inspect element anyway.
or maybe they did by mistake, is not like Youtube cares anyways...

Regarding Schyte wielders... you went to the most obscure stuff, but no one mentioned Halfbreed priscilla? like.. seriously?

From what I remember Marvel had wanted the entire Fantastic Four playable along with Human Torch giving issues so Super Skrull was just a much better option at that point

So, yeah.

I would love Wolverine too, since he is cool to work with, but i see him better as a second Marvel rep coming after one who was created by Stan Lee.

Maybe Spider-Man or the Fantastic Four.
