Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Alright, with the game approaching and the leaks abound, I will abstain from visiting this forum so I will be less likely to run into spoilers.
Have a nice one Smash fandom, and be sure to have fun until we're past the release hype. I'll see you by then.

I'm almost willing to place a bet on Steve not being in the game. The fact that it's taken so long for Verge to buckle down on an answer for what this alleged Minecraft content is tells me that he hasn't heard nearly as much about a playable Steve as we've been assuming he has.

In fact, I think we're the ones responsible for bringing up Steve in the first place. Verge just told us that he heard rumors of Minecraft content, and he didn't know if it was a stage or character.

Like you just said, PP wasn't part of the fighter pass. Sakurai made the "we haven't begun working on DLC yet" comment when he was explaining the fighter pass, so I'd assume PP was the only DLC they had made real progress on. The work on the base game wasn't even officially even done yet, so Sakurai probably wasn't concerned about any of the DLC aside from the free character who would be an extra incentive for people to buy the game.

Regardless, I'm not expecting a reveal at the VGAs. I think it's more likely we'll get an announcement in January, as that's when Nintendo typically releases a Direct.

He claims that Piranha Plant was more or less done in September, but at the time it was the only DLC character being worked on.


Doesn't that kind of throw a wrench into the "Reveal at VGAs" notion? I can't imagine that they'd show off a 3rd Party character, especially one from Square, like how Mewtwo was shown off.

Welll, so if Piranha Plant was done enough to be sent to NoA for testing (I assume they first do internal testing in Japan, then they do another one for the localized versions), means that all the artistic team (modelers, animators, illustrators) could have been working since then on the new character. Which would give them around 3 months to get a new character ready for a reveal.

I know that Sakurai said that the DLC lineup was finished recently, but he could have either just have said that to stop the flooding he was getting on Twitter, or maybe it meant that they had some DLC already planned way in advance, but the last couple of ones were decided right then

I'm still torn if I want to believe Reddit Boi.


It's undeniable that he's legit, there's no way in hell he would have been able to describe Piranha Plant and Incineroar soo in-depth otherwise.


But "Day 1 patch with new modes", I just can't believe it until I see it, frankly. The game is entirely playable as hackers/people who got it early have shown off, so it obviously wouldn't imply something 'already' in the game, and, my bias here, Home Run Contest IS in the game's code but unused....



I feel soo conflicted. He's legit, but is he 100% legit? He knows stuff only people who worked on the game would know, but.... I can't believe in the Day 1 Modes patch until we see it.

If the minecraft boss is dlc, then that’s pretty exciting cause it means new bosses can be added post-launch.

We dont have the full picture here and we cant make assumptions on what we've already seen.
Bosses have stages for it, but there isnt one found yet that can be associated with Minecraft. It leads to it being DLC.
But it implies DLCs outside of the fighter pass or that the fighters pass will include new boss fights for classic mode. It leads to Steve being a fighter.
But Verge's source basicaly said Minecraft content is a boss. Then we can diverge here on
A) A boss fight DLC
B) Fighter Pass will include bosses for classic mode
C) The character that represents the game is a boss, be it as a spirit or a costume

Sakurai should succeed over the Smash Flash 2 team and put Mr. Incredible on the Fighter Pass.

Maybe World of Light will get expansions like Splatoon 2 with more bosses and maps. Would be cool, don’t know how likely, but maybe

Who knows, we dont have any precedents on the franchise for it to be basis for a theory on the content.
We'll have to wait till Nintendo says something or PP releases and Dataminers find something like the Ryu and Roy data.

Now that I think about it, remixed versions of minecraft music would be pretty sick. Minecraft legitimately has a great soundtrack.

I mean, if you kill the Ender Dragon, doesn't it still take you to that weird credits screen?

I haven't played Minecraft since it was in a very late BETA, but didn't the goal used to be "Get to the end, kill dragon"?

Kinda? The goal of mine craft was just have fun and play with others if Notch’s comment on /v/ are anything to go by, but yeah the ender dragon is there if you really want a final boss.

Just imagine if we got some crazy ass character like Negan in Tekken 7 for Smash.

Imagine if Sakurai took the Shrek requests seriously. We could’ve got a sick All Star remix with a killer horn accompaniment
