Waluigi - Would make for a more interesting character than a generic Toad or Captain Toad.
Paper Mario - Mostly because Geno is owned by Square Enix, technically making him 3rd Party. Not a fan of more 3rd Parties.
King K. Rool - Less likely, but I see more potential in his moveset.
Ridley - Maybe one day, Sakurai can make him work.
Impa - Easy choice. Not a fan of Tingle.
Decidueye - Like them both, but I see much more potential with Decidueye. Plus, gotta complete the starter trio.
Bandana Dee - Potential for a really unique moveset, and he's been in more games within the franchise.
Isabelle - Would be great for a 'joke' character, with real unique potential.
Springman - The face of ARMS, only character that makes sense.
Medusa - Although I'd much rather have neither.
Wolf - My first and second most wanted characters, respectively, but I gotta see Wolf first.
Black Shadow - Although he could be used to pick up the pieces of a de-cloned Ganondorf, I think he has unique potential, too.
Crash - Although I'd much rather have neither.
Rayman - Although I'd much rather have neither.
Bomberman - Although I'd much rather have neither.

I saw people arguing about clones before and there's a few aspects that people also don't consider. The lack of a unique moveset isn't the only reason why people have a problem with them. Sometimes it's who they chose despite their uniqueness. Anyway I think there are easy methods for avoiding angering fans when including clones. For example:

1. It shouldn't be clones for a series that already got some newcomers. There are fans of series out there starving for a newcomer and they'll even take clones. Did Kid Icarus need another newcomer after their victory with Palutena? Did Fire Emblem with everything they got? I think Alph would have been better received since Olimar was the only Pikmin character. Heck I think DK fans would have been a tiny bit happy with a Funky Kong clone of DK. It's not K. Rool but it's better than nothing. Which is what DK got.

2. Make sure it's a character that is visually distinct. More than just a recolor. A clone needs to be somewhat exciting on a superficial level as well and adding a character that is identical to another people may find annoying. Back in Melee, Falco may have been identical to Fox moveset-wise but he was atleast a distict looking and sounding character.

So unfortunately I think even if they made Dark Pit a semiclone in Smash 5 people would still resent him. In addition to being a visually boring character (he's Pit but with blacl colors) he's a character from Kid Icarus Uprising (a game Sakurai made) and so people feel Sakurai has a bais towards his own characters. Whether that's true or not doesn't matter. That's the way people feel.

If these clones had been Alph, Funky Kong, or Dark Samus instead of Dr. Mario, Lucina, and Dark Pit I think they would have been slightly better recieved. Just slightly.

Waluigi. I think Toad is somewhat more likley, but in the span of the Mario universe as a whole, I like Waluigi more.
Geno. Never had any strong connection to Paper Mario, plus Sakurai and I've been wanting Geno since Brawl.
K. Rool. I really like Dixie, but K. Rool is on my top, and the reason I care for speculation in the first place.
Ridley. Just because he is long overdue.
Tingle. Always been my opinion.
Decidueye. Grass/Ghost, looks like a badass starter and the evolved form of my favourite Alola starter? Check!
Bandana Waddle Dee. No doubt the true missing link of the Kirby series.
Isabelle. I thought Tom Nook to appear in Brawl, but after I played New Leaf and her in MK8, Isabelle.
Ribbon Girl. Springman is cool, but Ribbon Girl is the one I like the most of the cast.
Medusa. Female villain, and the better choice for a battle against Palutena. I'd survive with Hades now tho.
Wolf. Krystal deserves it, someday. Wolf did not deserve to get cut.
Samurai Goroh. F-Zero is one of my favourite franchise, Goroh my favourite F-Zero Pilot. I want both! Non Black Shadondorf please.
Crash. Never cared for any purple dragons that much in general, but the one earlier mentioned is long overdue. Crash was part of my childhood.
Rayman. I would not mind either, with it said, Rayman for being the icon he is, Rabbids if they utulize the Mario Aspect.
Bomberman. Outside of Crash, Bomberman is the only other 3rd party that I really really miss from the roster at this moment.

I'm actually really surprised at how many people want Tingle over Impa. Thought for sure it would more unanimous like Ridley or Decidueye.

I dunno, just found it interesting. Guess there really isn't a Zelda character we can all agree on.

Maybe it's because Tingle has a consistent design and had his own spin-off games. Something I don't think any Zelda character achieved except him. Because of that, he's left a stronger mark on Nintendo history than Impa did. Oddly enough.

Just a curious question, but do you think Tingle and Captain Toad are in similar situations in terms of getting chosen in Smash?

I only ask this because the spinoff comparison has me thinking. I guess there are differences though with Captain Toad's spinoff being pushed by Nintendo for 3DS/Switch and selling better than Tingle spinoffs with the Wii U version.

Captain Toad doesn't suffer from heavy disproportionate popularity (dislike) between regions.

Tingle has multiple games but only one has been localised and only for Europe. Also the Tingle games aren't that recent anymore. Hyrule Warriors might help him but I'm sure that's a debate in and of itself.

Between the two (Impa and Tingle), Tingle is definitely the more iconic Zelda character. As

Koopaul stated, that weird "green elf in red spandex shorts" design of his always stays the same between games, and he's the only Zelda character to have his own spin-off.

However, I firmly believe that if Sakurai was going to add him, he'd have done it by now. With each Zelda game, we get more and more characters added to the list of potential newcomers. Since Tingle hasn't done much in recent years, I see no reason to upgrade him to a playable character over more recent or more relevant Zelda characters. Even though Captain Toad has technically existed since 2007, he didn't get his first playable role until 2013 in SM3DW, making him stand out a little more when compared to other non-Waluigi Mario characters.

I have my doubts about both characters, but I feel like Captain Toad is in a better position than Tingle, if only because of his relevancy.

That's such an astute observation. I don't know how that wasn't brought up, but youre very right.

As for Tingle and Captain Toad, I feel Captain Toad has been a consistent character since his conception in the Galaxy Games, and has only gotten even more popular what with more cameos, levels in Mario games, and his own spin-off. Tingle has sort of plateaued recently and hasn't been as relevant as he once was. Brawl or even SSB4 would have probably been the time to add him, but I just can't see it now. So I think the two are in somewhat different situations.

Balloon fighter is one of the characters I want the most. I'm not certain my body would be ready to get Tingle as a possible replacement for him.
Though, he is one of the last recurring Zelda character with Impa. Besides those two (and another version of Ganondorf, Link and Zelda), who could get in? If we didn't get a Twilight Princess character, why would we get a character from BotW? Will we ever reach six characters for Link's company?

Toad - I’ve wanted him in Smash since Brawl.
Paper Mario - A far more iconic character. I feel that Geno is too much of a one hit wonder.
K. Rool - I’ll never understand why he was left out of the newer Donkey Kong titles.
Sylux - I don’t think either of them are very likely unfortunately. But if we do somehow get one, I’d prefer Sylux.
Impa - I honestly wouldn’t even mind having her elderly incarnation from Breath of the Wild in Smash.
Neither - Primarina is the true star. :cool:

Bandanna Dee - He’s far more notable.
Isabelle - I still owe Tom Nook over 100,000 bells for my new house. I’d prefer to avoid him as much as possible.
Someone else from Arms - Even though Springman is probably a lot more likely.
Medusa - Mostly just for her design.
Wolf - He’s a popular veteran who was actually in Star Fox Zero.
Black Shadow - Just because.
Spyro- but I’d honestly rather see them both in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale 2.
Rayman - I like the Rabbids more than most people do, but I’d still prefer Rayman by a mile.
Simon Belmont - Because we need to complete the Captain N trilogy :troll:

You know what. You guys makes me want Black Shadow even more!

You know why? Because the stupid saying of making him Black Shadondork.

I really want Black Shadow now, and NOT as a Ganondorf take-over. Forget that, I want Black Shadow because he is a badass villain, who deals with black magic, powerful blows, and a crusher racing machine!

I want him in, so that he could be unique Luigi/Wolf clone at best if any, so you guys could just feel the potential Black Shadow has to be his own character, and that he is not just a stupid excuse for a take-over, which will most likely never happen.

While Samurai Goroh is my choice of new F-Zero character, my love and want for Black Shadow just boosts even more each time I hear that someone wants him "only" for the worst reason in Smash history (IMO).

Captain Falcon is a Smash original/clone of the prototype to Dragon King 64.
Which means, not only is Falcon not based as an F-Zero character, but GANONDORF of The Legend of Zelda is a clone of an original Smash character. How do you feel about that?

Ganondorf should have had his own moveset already in Brawl, and since that did not happen, I do not see it happen now either. I'd love for it to happen, as much as I love Black Shadow to join the roster, but not to take over Ganon's ol ****ty moveset.

Thanks for bringing me more love for a potential new F-Zero fighter in Smash.

Geno or Paper Mario? PM, even if his moveset is based on stickers or paint -shudder-

Ridley or Sylux? Ridley. Sylux would feel like a compromise.
Impa or Tingle? Impa, even if she is a semi-clone.
Decidueye or Incineroar? the former is more appealing as a fighter and in design.
Bandana Dee or Marx? BD. Marx trying to crash that party smh.
Isabelle or Tom Nook? Isabelle seems more fitting nowadays.
Spring man or some-? Spring Man.
Hades or Medusa? don't care either way, but Medusa is a female villain. That's neat.

-Decidueye (if only so we have a starter of each type)
-Marx (more villains, less generic)
-Isabelle (The hardest choice by far, I want them both to get in)
-Spring Man (Personally I would prefer Min-Min But Spring Man is the face of the series)
-Medusa (don’t really have an opinion on this)
-Wolf (there was absolutely no reason to cut him in the first place)
-Black Shadow (mooooore bad guuuuuys)
-Crash (I guess? I know very little about either one of these two)
-Rayman (Rabbids can go die in a ditch)

I'd find it distasteful to make anyone a surrogate for Balloon Fighter in Smash at this point. If you want someone with that sort of potential, do Balloon Fighter. Otherwise it just seems like Sakurai deliberately ignored Iwata's legacy. Not that he would.

This looks fun.

Toad - specifically Captain Toad who's game I adore.
Paper Mario - easiest decision for me, Paper Mario is an incredible franchise but the 64 and GC game are some of my fondest memories.
Dixie - as much as I want to see them BOTH in plus Cranky and Funky as a clone, Dixie is just that little more iconic in my eyes. Plus the three Kongs would be awesome to have in one match.
Ridley - but I'm not super invested either way. It'd be nice for the fanbase.
Impa - old lady Impa though, with Sheikah technology.
Decidueye - although I'd rather Mimikyu, Lycanroc or Buzzwole instead, in that order.
Marx - seems to have more personality and I'd love to see a character move around on a ball.
Tom Nook - I expect to see Isabelle in this game, but Tom Nook would be so awesome with a bell based moveset.
Springman - he's the face of the game and I don't hate his design like others seem to.
Medusa - been around longer, has snakes for hair, evil woman, generally awesome and sassy.
Wolf - Krystal is old news and Wolf was super fun to play as in Brawl.
Samurai Goroh - he is at least somewhat recognisable from his AT plus he's a fat samurai.
Crash - Crash vs. Mario is too big to ignore.
Rayman - I love Mario x Rabbids but Rayman is too big a deal.
Bomberman - only because I've played more Bomberman than Castlevania but wouldn't mind either way.

Even though I'm still baffled by the exclusion of Midna/Wolf Link, I don't think the two Wii games alone should set the standard for whether or not we get more Zelda characters. Twilight Princess not getting a newcomer in Brawl was a freak thing, and Skyward Sword was admittingly not the greatest Zelda game to receive a newcomer. Yeah, those two games might have been a bust when it comes to Smash characters, but I don't think it's over for Zelda just yet.

Even before it's official release, you could tell that BotW was going to be a ground-breaking game for the series. It was in development for nearly the entire lifespan of the Wii U, and fans absolutely ate it up when it was playable for the first time at E3 2016. Not only that, but in one month since its release, BotW had defied all logic and sold more copies than Switch consoles, making some record-breaking sales for Nintendo. Tie all of this together and there seems like a decent chance we could get a BotW character. Heck, it's even possible that Sakurai changed his mind and added a BotW character to the pre-planned roster (if it was completely decided before then) after he saw how much of a success the game was.

I have a lot of confidence in this Smash game, and we're probably not going to see another Zelda game with the same level of innovation as BotW for a long time. If BotW doesn't end up finally getting the series a newcomer, I'll back down and resort myself to supporting only variations of Link, Zelda, and Ganon, and the recurring Zelda characters.

This is is going to be a little long for the forums (so I've decided to put it in spoiler text), but here are my thoughts on Senselessbreak's "Would you Rather" post:

Waluigi. Should be fairly self explanatory (why would I pick a generic Toad over a fan favorite?)

Geno. Paper Mario was inspired by Super Mario RPG (even being called Super Mario RPG 2) so I feel Geno is not only more important but more unique. Also they'd likely be basing Paper Mario heavily off of Sticker Star and Colour Splash, which I'd rather just not have at all.

I don't want to choose here, but.. K. Rool. He's overall more important to the Donkey Kong Country series, being the main protagonist and all.. even if he hasn't appeared for a while. I'd really like to see them both be added eventually.

Ridley. Sylux is very creepy and would be a good rival for Samus, but he ain't Ridley. I feel Ridley's status as the main antagonist of the Metroid series along with one of maybe two consistently reoccurring characters (if you don't count Mother Brain / Kraid) and having a more recent appearance (both in timeline and in recent games) makes him much more valuable than Sylux.

Impa. I like Tingle and all, but Impa makes much more sense to me personally. She may not have her own games like Tingle does, but she's still very important to the Zelda series regardless and going back way farther than Tingle, even getting more recent appearances as well. I think even having a frail old lady being an incredibly ninja would be entertaining if they decided to keep her BotW appearance.

Decidueye. I like him more, and Rowlet was my starter of choice.

Bandanna Dee. Marx would be cool, but I think people really overstate his actual importance. He's had one or two actual main appearances that aren't very recent outside of the Kirby DLC which likely started development too late to be considered. Bandanna Dee would also round out the Kirby cast to the 4 playable characters from Return to Dreamland, so it works for me.

Neither. I like both of their roles in the game already, and I don't think either really fit as fighters at all. If I had to choose, I'd pick Tom Nook because he's been in since the beginning and is arguably more iconic, however, I'd much rather see the Mayor. I'm fine with Animal Crossing just staying as the Villager at all, honestly. It doesn't really need more fighters, just give me more stages/items/music and I'm happy.

Spring Man with a Ribbon Girl alternate costume. They're too similar to really be different in Smash characters IMO. I'd be fine with Ribbon Girl making an appearance as a clone, but I'd rather have her as a costume than not have her at all.

Hades. Pit. Hades! Pit! Hades... Hades is just a much more interesting character overall. I have no other reason.

Wolf. Krystal gives me the heebie jeebies, and I just find Wolf to be a much more fun and interesting character both in Star Fox and Smash.

Samurai Goroh. He's more interesting than Black Shadow and has been around since the original F-Zero. Not much else to say.

Spyro. I think both have a near 0% chance of being in the base roster (there is absolutely no way they weren't too late to even be considered, let alone would have been considered at all), but I just like Spyro more.

Rayman. Is this a trick question?

Simon Belmont. Bomberman is cute and I like both of the characters, but Belmont sounds like they'd be more fun to me. A whip character is something I feel we need. Can't we have both? I want both.

Waluigi - I like them both though.
Geno - I'm a huge Paper Mario fan, but I'd rather have another character from that franchise than a third Mario.
K. Rool - Always been a fan of slow heavyweight fighters.
Ridley - Curious to see what will happen once he finally makes it in.
Impa - I dislike them both, but I see more potential in Impa, due to her many different roles in the Zelda games.
Decidueye - Haven't played the gen 7 games, so I'm fine with both. I do think Decidueye's design lends itself better for crazy movesets.
Marx - Again, I'm fine with both. I just want to see Marx in some form, be it a playable character or a boss.
Isabelle - I'm imagining Isabelle placing public works projects on the stage, like campfires and windmills.
Someone else from Arms - I find Springman to be a little plain.
Hades - Absolutely love this guy. I do agree that Smash could use a female villain though (my pick would be Captain Syrup).
Wolf - Don't really care, but many people seem to want him back.
Black Shadow - I don't think he should get Ganondorf's current moveset, as I don't think that moveset is worth keeping around.
Crash - Just to see the reactions. I have yet to play any of his games.
Rayman - Rayman 2 was the first game I ever played. To see him in Smash would be unreal.
Simon - Simon in Smash would be cool, but I'd be more interested in what stage he would have.

Wolf - I don't care much about either of them, I just happen to care even less about Krystal then I do Wolf lol

Samurai Goroh (I guess because Samurai Goroh sounds more than just "let Ganondorf give his moveset to Black Shadow so he can use swords)

Crash (I love both, but perhaps as far as who'd be good fit to "start with", add Crash first. Then Spyro.)

Rayman (No brainer, really. Rabbids are bit difficult to see implemented, and we got something like them in TMNT Smash Up)

Bomberman (Let Konami get it's feet back up again, and then we'll move on Simon. Bomberman at least is their first effort towards better)

Paper Mario (never really got into Mario RPG, meanwhile Paper Mario TTYD was amazing)
Dixie (literally never heard of K Rool until the Smash Ballot, still not into him)
Ridley (far more popular and well known)
Impa (I actually dislike Tingle)
Decidueye (has a lot of potential with ranged attacks, plus I like birds)
Bandana Dee (Marx is too crazy)
Isabelle (Tom Nook isn't as popular as her)
Min Min (has potential and looks pretty cool)
??? (TBH neither interest me, prefer Viridi)
Krystal (a new character, although both should be back)
??? (Never heard of them)
Crash (far more iconic than Spyro imo)
Rayman (Rabbids are a little too crazy for me)
Bomberman (never play castlevania)

Waluigi
- I think Toad deserves it more, but Waluigi would just be more fun and cool.

Paper Mario
- Never played Super Mario RPG. Also, I’d only really want Paper Mario if he’s based off the first three game, not Sticker Star and Color Splash. I want helpers in the moveset.

K. Rool
- He’s just a great big boy.

Ridley
- He’s just a great big boy.

Tingle
- He’s probably more recognizable than Impa, and would also be more interesting, and would bring more variety than another sword user or Sheik semi-clone.

Decidueye
- I just like him more as a Pokémon, and also want that full trio of starters in Smash.

Tom Nook
- I don’t want either. I like Tom Nook in the AC games more than Isabelle so I’d choose him.

Twintelle
- I like her design and I’d say she’s more popular than Spring Man. Although her hair might not be the best to represent a game called Arms.

Medusa
- I love Hades much more as a character, but he just wouldn’t be the same if he wasnt constantly talking, and might also lose a bit of his luster if he isn’t a VERY big boy. So Medusa it is, solely because I’m not sure Hades can be done justice as playable.

Wolf
- I just don’t like Krystal at all, even if she would be a unique character and not a semi-clone.

Black Shadow, given that...
- he takes Ganondorf’s moveset, giving Ganondorf a new one. If not, then I’d take Samurai Goroh.

Crash
- I’ve played the Crash games, and not the Spyro ones. I also think Crash is more iconic, but may be wrong.

Rayman
- Not that big of a fan of the series (nothing against it, just haven’t played much of it), but I’d take him over Rabbids, even if it’s Rabbid Mario or another one from Kingdom Battle (which I love).

Simon Belmont
- I haven’t played either Bomberman or Catlevania, but from the vague stuff I know I’d like to see Simon more. Castlevania seems to be near Mega Man levels of iconic NES games, and having a whip-using vampire hunter would just be cool.

Waluigi (I would love if he was a Pit situation and got his own game based on his appearance in Smash)

Paper Mario (TTYD is the Gamecube fight me!)

King K Rool (Main antagonist with a load of abilities and swagger )

Ridley ( Main antagonist with a load of creepy abilities )

Impa (has been around longer and in more games than Tingle even though he has his own game)

An 8th gen Pokemon so neither

BDW (Has or is becoming Kirby's Luigi at this point)

Neither on the Animal crossing guys

Springman (He is the main character but I think Ribbon Girl has the right to be her own character as well she's not the same as Springman)

Medusa( old school antagonist)

Wolf (He's already been in the game and he was the best one)

Neither (Deathborn)

Spyro (Childhood buddy of mine)

Rayman( Rabbis could be their own character, sure I don't hate them but Rayman makes more sense)

Bomberman (Either could work but Bomberman is older and is one of those icons like Megaman)

Waluigi because I’ve wanted him for longer and want a goofy character, I want both though

Geno because I remember him being so heavily requested for over a decade now and I think it’d be a cool throwback

I want both but i’d want Dixie before K. Rool

I’d prefer Ridley but i’d be okay with either

Impa for sure, she’s one of my most wanted

Decidueye, we already have a fire type

Bandana Dee because he’s cute

Isabelle because she’s more iconic arguably, and is the face of the franchise. And she’s cute

Springman but i’d Love Mechanica

Medusa because Hades feels too powerful to be just a playable character, and unless he’s constantly talking he wouldn’t be well represented. It might be a Ganondorf situation. I’d prefer Viridi over both though.

Wolf because he’s relavent to the series

Black Shadow has a cooler design

Crash is more iconic

Rabbids because of the crossover

Bomberman because he fits in smash better

Waluigi. I'm fully invested at this point.
Geno. He's a neat character and not a variant.
Dixie. Grappler potential + a lot of K. Rool fans soured me on the character.
Ridley. I'd just love to see the **** storm that'd follow, admittedly.

Impa. Don't really care one way or the other, but I guess I'd go with her.
Decidueye. Grass-Ghost Archer Owl is the best.
Bandana Waddle Dee. He's got a cute hat. Also he's my brother's most wanted newcomer alongside Dillon.
Isabelle. Iconic, adorable, and can be a clumsy terraformer.
Spring Man. He's the Ryu and I like his toothpaste hair. Min Min, Helix, Lola Pop, and Dr. Coyle come close though.
Hades. He's hilarious.
Wolf. Veteran perks.
Samurai Goroh. My personal pick for a second F-Zero character.
Crash. The original was one of the first games I ever played, alongside Pokémon Silver.
Rabbids. I legitimately find them more interesting than I do Rayman.
Simon Belmont. Not crazy about Bomberman, and Simon's cooler. Whips, holy water, wall mutton, all that jazz.

This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

I'd rather play Parcheesi.
