Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I still think Decidueye is the most likely choice for a Pokemon rep. If he's in though, I really hope they make him fast, unlike in Sun and Moon. A fast archer character would be a fantastic addition.

Isn't Decidueye pretty slow in S/M? His base speed is his lowest stat. I think he'd be a zoner with slightly below average speed and strong air mobility.

It's more the design. He's an archer. They're typically agile. It's a trait that makes them workable. Even if he didn't have fast running/walking speed, he still could have a fast air game. Or good dodges.

Keep in mind they can't translate everything in Pokemon well to Smash. Balance is another factor. An archer that's slow won't do well at all. They need some speed to escape areas.

Decidueye have a base 70 speed, so pretty average, but not what I would call slow.

What always messes with me when looking at Pokémon base speeds is frickin Venasaur. Why the heck does it have 80 base speed?! Imagine this thing (:003:) coming charging at you 4x faster than the Pokémon world's version of a rhino!

Edit: I looked it up and real world rhinos can run at up to 50km/h!?

Sun and Moon came out in 2016, so would have been in development for, at a minimum, a year before hand. Zerarora probably would have been developed, or at least designed at that point. I do not think that development time frame would be what stops it from being playable

Then why wasn't Zeraora in Sun/Moon's data?
Not only that, but why would Zeraora be picked for Smash's roster during a time when Zeraora was supposed to be a complete secret anyway? And during a time when Marshadow would be closer to having a reveal and movie role?

Timing is bad for Zeraora.

I don't have any reasoning for that, I doubt anyone really understands how Game Freak thinks. I just figure that its conception would have been before the reveal of USUM, which was the beginning of last year, meaning that it would have been on the drawing board probably around the time Smash was being planned.

I am not trying to say that I think Zeraora is likely to happen, just that it is quite possible for it to line up, just that its reveal is much more recent.

imo outside of third-parties the only all-star Smash 4 added was Villager (and Miis).
I think Little Mac almost fits the bill personally. Just because of how much pop culture references Arcade Punch-Out and Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, I think a good chunk of people might know him.

He was barely known in Japan, notably. So I'd say he really doesn't count that much.

I think if he were an All-Star he would've been more than a voice in a crowd until the Wii release showed up.

Honestly if we're looking at how well known a character is, the next closest "All Star" for a newcomer would've been Duck Hunt. However I agree with Neon that the only real Nintendo all-star added to Smash 4 was Villager. A couple are debatable, but Villager is the only sure-fire all star newcomer from Nintendo.

I guess it all depends on how you define all star.

I mean it's definitely a subjective term and these analyses are entirely based on our own perceptions of the characters. I think there's several who are pretty arguable and are all stars in my opinion, but the one I think is across-the-board accepted as such is Villager.

I'd rather be like Farquaad and go down the dragon's stomach in that scenario.

Why do these lyrics actually work as responses?

I am rather unsure of how to try and bring this meme train back onto the topic of Smash. Yep what a concept.

Okay. That was really fun.

But I think we need to stop before the mods have collective strokes.

Alright well how about Shrek for Smash?

So we've been talking a lot about Pokémon, Zelda and Donkey Kong newcomers for the past dozen or so pages and something that I am kinda curious about is what people think the chances we might get a new character as part of the sub-series of Mario (Yoshi and Wario basically)?

I think it could be possible. The likeliest would be probably Kamek and Ashley, although Waluigi might be put in with Wario since they are partnered up in most cases.

Potential topic.

Dillon for Smash.

What would his stage be and how would it work?

It'd be nice and chill for a while fighting in some deserty town with lookout towers then those dumb rock things would attack and I'd pick a different stage.

I stopped replying because I wasn't trying to get an infraction for memeing too hard lol

Do people think Dillon actually has a chance as playable? Due to the rather small size of that franchise, I was never really under the impression he'd be added to Smash as a playable character. I thought the Assist Trophy role was perfect for him, and his franchise hasn't really gained any ground since then to my knowledge. Just the recent announcement of another title.

He's got a retail title since then, that's something.

Don't think it's enough, but if he keeps getting them it might be.

He's actually gotten his first physical release...

In Japan, at least.

I think that is mostly the thing. Dillon's franchise has been pretty much on the up and up. He has gone from eShop titles to physical releases and even though he is only on the 3DS at the moment I can't imagine a Switch game is more than a few years away.

The character itself also seems to be pretty unique, although I am sure people will assume he would just be a Sonic clone...

I like the 3 replies in unison.

Well that's cool. I think he's a cool looking character, though I don't know much about him personally as I have not played the game. I certainly won't write off his chances, especially since all 3 of you cleared that question up for me lol. What kinds of things does he doe outside of the rolling thing?
