Y'know with all these deconfirmations, I empathize with the supporters... but I also feel just a tiny bit relieved, due to that being one less competitor for the "DLC slot."
Thus is the nature of the zero-sum game

Hah, and my biggest worry is whether or not Bamco's got a second character in the DLC line-up. It feels like everyone wants their Karate Wily, their Red Pit, their missing Sonic pal, their talking Yoshi, their Metaknight's Dad, and even their Sir Dies-a-Lot. Competition's rough (but luckily, not competition against your most wanted :vvv )

Tekken or Tales of? Third parties aren't added to rep a company, after all. Plus, with Nintendo choosing characters, it's hard to say if they are going to suggest a character from a Bandai-Namco owned IP.

As much as I would love Rex and Pyra to make it in as DLC, I don't think they're in.

As of right now, no "Mii costume" newcomer has become playable in the same Smash their costume was introduced in. K. Rool, Isabelle, and Chrom were all costumes in Smash 4, but didn't become playable until Ultimate.

Plus Sakurai was pretty clear when he deconfirmed any XC2 character.

Nintendo can still push Xenoblade by adding Elma. Rex and Pyra's deconfirmation doesn't eliminate all of Xenoblade.

I'm thinking about buying Smash digitally with the fighters pass so I know I'll always have it on my Switch. What size SD card should I get? Not sure how many more games I'll do digitally, but I think I need to get an SD card with City Skylines downloaded digitally and the space that Mario Kart, BoTW and Odyssey's save files take up on my system.

Honestly if you consider that rushed I can only imagine how good your more focused on pieces are.

I'm taking classes, but they're all about 3D modelling and programming, not 2D art, so I guess a bit of both?

Yes, a...specially tailored costume as part of DLC of a specific character, indicating they are promoting the character as a Mii costume and nothing more, gives more evidence...??

I am rooting for the Rex/Pyra fans but let's not pretend their chances are as high as you're making it out to be.

Ironic how Geno supporters use the Mii costume of their character as evidence of him possibly being playable, but when supporters of a different character do the same, you think it means the opposite?

All that we know for sure is that Xenoblade Chronicles 2, or Rex a the very least, will not be part of this round of DLC assuming there will be more (and I'm sure of it). That's the entire reason the Rex mii outfit is a free Bonus with the fighter's pass, the reason being Rex is not going to be in it.

I have to wonder. If a highly requested character was included as the free DLC bonus, then wouldn't people still complain anyways because Nintendo was holding back a popular character from the base game to encourage early purchases? A character no one asked for was the perfect one to give away as a free DLC bonus when you think about it.

Doesn't matter. The fact of the matter is that Piranha will forever be saddled with the point that no one asked for him. Joke character or not the character is far from a popular choice as a character free or not.

What does matter to people is that instead of resources and development time being put towards a Krystal, or a Geno, or an Isaac, or a Bandanna Dee, or an Ashley, or a Skull Kid; or even echoes like Black Knight, Shadow, or Hilda, they decided to devote time and resources to a character that was merely added for shock value. Now don't get me wrong, I love the idea of Piranha Plant, as a regular little mook of an enemy he kind of fills that little niche. A normal ass normal enemy. And while I'm not overtly frustrated with his inclusion I wholly understand the frustration caused by his inclusion and honestly I do find the idea of shock characters annoying. Here's my thinking: Akuma and Geese came out to Tekken 7 to worldwide praise for calling back to the legacy of fighting games. Compare these to a Ridley or a K. Rool. On the other side of the spectrum Noctis got announced and people were confused and baffled by his inclusion. Did he turn out to be a cool character? Absolutely. People love him now. Compare this to a Snake, Cloud, or Simon. And more recently, and most appropriate for an example, Negan from The Walking Dead got announced for the game. There is really no point in adding said character except for shock value. That little boost of hype that can get eyes on the game from a more mainstream audience. Compare this to Piranha Plant. The difference is PP doesn't have the trait of reaching out to further audiences. It's a simple out of the blue character. Would we have lamented Piranha Plant if he never ever got into Smash? Nah. Not at all. Because most of us don't care. He's just a goofy character.

I do think the whole PP announcement was done incredibly poorly, you could even say maybe in bad taste. After months of speculation about Shadow and Isaac the bomb is dropped that they're Assist trophies. Then almost immediately followed up with a character trailer for a LITERAL generic enemy. Not even a discernable trait like Bandanna Dee or Captain Toad. Just a plant. As an Isaac fan I can tell you it was a hell of a blow to see Isaac as an Assist and a Mario Plant as a character.

Though I digress. To answer your question quite simply. Probably. But no. With any of those more popular or preferred characters they could have sold that first character and people would have jumped on it. The only way they could get away with PP was by making it free. This sums up my thoughts on PP very well. The character himself is cool and I'm excited, but at the moment I was super peeved because it just unintentionally added salt to the wound of many fans who wanted Springman, Rex, Shadow, Isaac, etc.

Im still super sad that Krystal is an AT. I get that she is there at all which is cool but it also means that unless AT promotions happen my most wanted character has no chance of being anything more. Im not sure what's worse now. Fans of characters who aren't in at all right now having possibly false hope or the knowledge that your character doesn't even have that chance.

. We will have to see, if Nintendo partnered with Disney in Ralph Breaks the Internet that could significantly raise his chances. Lets hope he makes it in.
