Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

And the fact that he's a big tank character, so he could easily be like a Bowser-like character in terms of weight and whatnot. And let's be honest. Seeing the Hectorcopter as his recovery would be the greatest thing ever.

Actually in all seriousness there really is too much FE if Sakurai himself mentions it. Add another clone to it, well that just sentiments the thoughts of others further. I mean, Chrom obviously stole Dixie Kong's echo slot.

I don’t think Sakurai will included another FE character tbh. Chrom probably only got in because of fan reaction to him missing 4.

Sakurai was even hesitant to put Corrin in and I’m sure he saw that reaction and would be wary to include Edelgard or someone from 3 Houses unless he really though they’d be unique or Nintendo demanded it (which doesn’t seem likely since he seems to have chosen from a list)

I'm not going to be impressed by any axe or lance wielder unless they do something really awesome to make them more then just another disjoint specialist. Azura and Fjorm suggested as as water/ice benders but I feel Azura missed her chance and I can't say I'd by impressed by a FE Heroes OC making it in.

I've yet to see Edelgard do anything crazy yet.

I also never expect an FE archer get in, since Sakurai's last idea to make an archery specialist into a fighter was to split their bow in two and turn it into dual blades.

Thank you for taking the time to make that list. Sorry to tell you though, I'm not into Fire Emblem, like at all. I was being sarcastic there. I did not download Corrin however, but not because he's a FE character. I just didn't feel the need to. Sorry to waste your time.

In fairness on the archer thing, I highly doubt that'd be the case now.
Before Smash 4, projectiles outside of specials were practically unheard of in Smash. It's why Mega Man's moveset blindsided a lot of people.

There was a clear change in moveset design philosophy between Brawl and 4. Just compare Samus to Mii Gunner, for example.

Smash FE representation is a little messed up.

We have Marth (FE1, 3, 11, 12), Roy (FE6), Ike (FE9 and 10), Robin, Chrom and Lucina (FE13) and Corrin (FE14).

Imo, they DO cover a nice spectrum of games, but I'm a little sad they missed on some good classic characters, especially Hector (FE7) and Ephraim (FE8) who use an axe and lance respectively. Hell, even Alm and Celica (FE2, FE15) would be excellent representatives. Now, Nintendo is likely going to go for an FE16 rep at this point, but I'd love it if they'd cover their bases with some other notable characters. Just annoyed that the franchise is so vastly skewed by Marth-like characters, when Robin and Corrin are honestly the most interesting movesets, and the remaining I've mentioned would too.

Roy's the weirdest pick imo.
FE1 is obviously y'know, FE1. The start.
FE9 and 10 are some of the most popular entries and directly tie into each other.
Awakening Trio and Fates represent the massive new era of FE.

Roy is Roy.

I think so too, if you watch any reaction videos of Chrom, the general reaction was "oh.. another Fire Emblem character". They went too far with their add an ad idea. Though I think Chrom got in because simply he was an easy clone.
I don't think Nintedno needs to advertise 3 house, everyone knows about Fire Emblem now. It's riskier now to make a FE charcater as DLC, I don't see many would be thrilled by that.

Except this time its not Sakurai picking DLC. It's Nintendo and knowing them they like to put in promotional characters.

Timing just happened to work that way/Lucina being promoted from a costume/echoes existing. We're never going to get a Gen 3 Pokemon or a Gen 5 Pokemon because they were also victims of bad timing.
