actually, there is one potential dragon quest character i could see maybe getting in if they want a character that encompasses more than just one game.

Estark is the lord of hell and a recurring boss since Dragon Quest 4, appearing in tons of games afterwards, including spin-offs, and was even added into Dragon Quest 8's 3DS remake as a bonus boss fight. He's considered one of the first super bosses in jrpg history, and as you might be able to tell by his many appearances, is quite popular with the fanbase in Japan.

I don't think Estark will ever happen because like, he's a super boss that nobody outside of Japan super cares about, but his appearances do count towards something. He's a pretty unique boss too, he's incredibly powerful but keeps falling asleep during the fight. In Dragon Quest Heroes 2 he actually gets buffed when he wakes up.

i was planning on writing a thing on him so lol, i guess i got him on the mind. there's tons of other popular dragon quest characters that could potentially get in too

I just noticed that nobody asked her anything about Capcom characters (someone asked her more generally about Capcom and a bunch of other companies, but by that time she was fed up with posts like that). So I think there might be a blind spot there, we're not really considering all they have to offer. There's the obvious choice (Dante), but also less obvious characters like Phoenix Wright (long history with Nintendo), Amaterasu (Okami HD and other ports), Viewtiful Joe (one of the Capcom Five on the GameCube), or even Leon S. Kennedy (another one of the Capcom Five, and a huge character regardless). I think we should start thinking about our blind spots now, just in case Hitagi is telling the whole truth.

Toriyama's a really good artist, but face/hair differentiation ain't his thing. Dragon Quest Swords is an example of him making a little more effort.

It still beats Mitsuru Adachi, who can't even tell his own protags apart.

I had to look Mitsuru Adachi up, and that's... that's something.

Hmm...I always got more of a Cell Games Gohan vibe from Chrono’s hair:

It's more apparent when viewed from the front.

Crono's basically got Goku's hair (four big hair bits on the left, and 3-4 smaller ones on the left), but with strands in the middle added.

I'd say Gohan's is actually even messier. (There's certainly a strong resemblance).

i havent actually played it

its really bad, trust me. most characters share the same sets and only get like three moves unique to each. rayman at least gets to be a "new" character, but poor shovel knight is just a reskin of another character

Nintendo already did it to Bamco in base game. No third party "needs" any sort of character rep.

It doesn't matter if we feel it's fair or not. When Nintendo goes "btw y'all are about to get ****ing MILLIONS working on this game which your most iconic character is in alongside a library of his music, references to your characters, and a stage just for him, you also get top billing" then they're gonna do it not worrying about "grrr they bettah put in Lloyd"

You get what I'm getting at?

I see where you are coming from, and from a money sense yes it makes sense.


However in Smash Wii U, Capcom and Sega were the only two companies that had two reps. At least Square had only one rep, so it made the playing field somewhat even. However with the inclusion of Konami getting two and Square getting two, I just don't see it from a representation view point. Despite having more money, if we put that aside I think Bandai Namco still wants equal representation. Why wouldn't they want more representation and advertisement to their own characters? And Nintendo is used to working with 3rd parties, Im sure they would realize Bandai Namco would want another rep. I suppose we will have to wait and see, but I still will be genuinely shocked if they don't get a second rep. Logically it makes more sense for Bandai Namco to have a second rep, than for Microsoft to have a first rep.

I don't think Hitagi's playing a with a full deck in this game. The only character we know might be in the game is from the one company that won't let Sakurai give Midgar more than two songs. They'd have to have an exciting 2nd rep, otherwise their presence in the DLC pack is kind of uneventful, lol

If a character can't stay on the payload, they're dead to me.

This is pretty interesting though. I'm not believing you until you provide a full screenshot of your desktop with the message open. For all we know it could be inspect element, which I'm inclined to believing seeing that Hitagi's username doesn't have dashes between the underscores. I don't even know how that happened. If true, you got lucky. Your sources about Agumon being in Smash were 99.99% misleading you for ****s and giggles, and you passed off false information to Hitagi and got lucky to get a response back.

I'm definitely getting some MemoryMan3 or VashTehStampede levels of faking here though.
