That's why am actually optimistic about the DLC characters. Sakurai has had his ways. Am actually curious on what Nintendo would pick for themselves. Which is why I have a hard time believing it'll be all 3rd party characters.

Sephiroth is the most overrated video game villain of all time. And yes I'm someone who wanted to kick his *** badly after Aerith died, but like....still so overrated.

Tifa is clearly the superior Final Fantasy VII choice.

I think characters who are 'literal whos' in the West/Japan respectively are possible, but they'll be balanced out. So of our 5 DLC fighters, we could get one that largely panders to the West counterbalanced by one that panders to Japan. Japanese/Western fans might go 'who's this, I never asked for them', but if it's only one of the five they might say what the hell and buy the full season pass. And any character that can bridge both markets will be ideal for Nintendo.

Yes.

One side of the coin; yes are characters such as piranha plant feasible in future versions of Smash? Yeah.

The other side; it's not even remotely likely a variety of characters similar to piranha plant will be added. The gag and gimmick of being a mook doesnt mean now all mooks join the roster. Piranha plant is an outlier and exception, that's his niche... You make more characters like that, then its no longer a niche.. And it loses its gimmick.

I find it likely that Nintendo will hear the fan-demand for the DLC picks.

LEGO listens to its fandom most of the time.

Sony revealed the Medievil remake just because of the fans demanding news.

Activision has given Toys For Bob the freedom to work on Reignited Trilogy the way they want to, even if they want to modify elements of it based on the requests from the fans.


Nintendo may be a company, but they know how some stuff that the fans request can bring lots of benefits.

I think Lloyd and Heihachi are seemingly the most likely of the Bamco reps due to their representation in Smash 4.

But we shouldn't count our chickens before they hatch here.

We haven't seen all the Mii costumes yet. They could still be Mii costumes. In fact I think its actually more likely that they're still costumes because a lot of the other costumes are ported over renders from Wii U.

That's what I said man, if the Chrom costume is any indication they're probably still in the game which doesn't mean deconfirmation. The biggest possible hint is no Heihachi trophy even after getting Akira.

If they denied Shadow, then they won't add Noctis just to act edgy.

The problems Heihachi had was the difficulty that would come with transferring Tekken's mechanics (which are meant for a 3D game) into a 2D space. This was why he was not included in Smash 4.

But that doesn't change the fact Heihachi is more prominent and has more an impact on gaming than Lloyd.

Tekken did after all manage to become THE fighting game franchise. Like honestly do you know how big of a deal it is that it's bigger than Street Fighter now? It's a pretty big deal.

And I'm not even saying this to **** on Lloyd man. I'm saying it because it's true. Hell, I wouldn't even mind Lloyd, but don't **** on Heihachi and his franchise's accomplishments to get Lloyd in Smash.

I agree. I’m not really interested in buying any third parties unless it’s Banjo and his chances are looking slim unfortunately. Hopefully we get one or two first parties.

Going on from the Golden Sun talk before, I have some words to say. After seeing the Isaac thread and seeing how positive they were, I decided to try out the original Golden Sun to see what it was all about. In the matter of just 2 days Isaac became my second most wanted character, the game is fantastic and it is an absolute crime this series died. Honestly, Isaac should have been playable in Brawl and if the series continued after the Lost Age I think it would be very well known. Golden Sun sold massivley back in the day before internet was even mainstream fully, imagine if it was like that today? Sakurai knows Golden Sun has a fanbase otherwise he wouldn't have readded his assist trophy in my opinion. Dark Dawn tried to revive the series but due to the fact that the series had been dormant, didn't live up to the standards of the previous entries and was released at the end of the DS's life it did not do great... It is such a shame, I am still playing through the original and it is fantasic from the characters to the gameplay to the music and I sincerely believe if a new entry was made that took place after the Lost Age or the original was remastered it would sell very well.

If any of you have never played Golden Sun please do, I highly regret not playing it earlier. I'm hoping the best for the future of Golden Sun even if it seems unlikely to get a new game, anything can happen and I believe the fans can do it.

In general. Not with popularity.

It's a complicated issue, because it seems like the Final Fantasy in Smash is specifically Final Fantasy 7 and not any other (obviously this can change, but I personally doubt it).

This essentially leaves you with a choice of Tifa, Sephiroth, Vincent, Zack, Moogle or Chocobo (along with Barret, Aerith, Red XIII, Yuffie, Cait Sith and Cid).

Zack is more clone material, he was base-or-bust (unless they do Echo DLC or something).

Vincent was popular enough to get his own spin-off game, but Tifa is most certainly the more popular of the two (essentially, she and Sephiroth usually go where Cloud goes, there are only a handful of exceptions to this).

Obviously, I'm inherently biased because given the choice of Tifa vs. any other FF rep, I'd pick Tifa in a heartbeat; but it's not like I'd poo-poo, like, Warrior of Light/Fighter, Black Mage or Terra getting in.

Also, I would be lying if I said "Moogle riding a Chocobo" wouldn't be a hilarious character.
