Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Holy moly, I did not expect this Daisy Moveset write up to take me many days, but it did in the name of research and technicality. Gonna spoiler it for obvious reasons.
Princess Daisy
View attachment 140328
Overview – A technical character in most sports games she appears in and an overall theme with flowers. Super athletic with a tomboyish attitude. Instead of wearing her typical dress, she will have her athlete's uniform on. Her move set will reflect upon these qualities.

Daisy is a fast character who can quickly deal a lot of damage. She has excellent recovery and can jump high but suffers from being killed very quickly, as she is one of the lightest characters in the game. She can combo well but can also easily get comboed herself since she is a fast faller. Her main draw is her unique ability to give her opponents flowers on their heads. Many of her attacks can do so, so she builds up damage quickly. To balance this quick damage output, she has trouble landing attacks that can successfully kill opponents. Her only reliable kill throw will kill at around 125% for average weight characters. Her Up Smash and Side Smash are her only other non-grab kill moves, so the rest of her move set will revolve around quickly racking up damage and setting up her opponents for a quick kill. She can also gimp quite easily as she has excellent off-stage play and some meteor attacks.

Basic Attacks

Princess Punch [Jab 1]: A basic royal punch that can connect with every tilt.

High Kick [Jab 2]: Daisy swiftly brings her leg out in an upward motion.

Fists of Frustration [Rapid Jab]: A barrage of punches that almost looks like flailing.

Ball Spike [Jab Release]: Daisy slams her fists on her opponent as if they were a volleyball. A sweet spot hit will meteor the opponent.

Ribbon Swing [Forward Tilt]: Daisy swings her Dancer’s Ribbon right out in front of her in a downwards motion. The Ribbon acts as a barrier destroying small projectiles. (Mario and Sonic at the Olympics)

Leg Sweep [Down Tilt]: Daisy sticks her leg out in front of her and tries to trip anyone in front of her. If struck with the final frames of her foot’s hit box, the opponent will have guaranteed trip.

Ribbon Dance [Up Tilt]: Daisy pulls out a Dancer’s Ribbon and quickly swings it above her. It covers her from above, but her sides are exposed. (Mario and Sonic at the Olympics)

Home Run Slide [Dash Attack]: Daisy slides on her back, very similar to the way Mario does. The very last frames of the attack do the most damage. (Mario Sluggers)

Aerial Attacks

Flower Shot [Neutral Air]: Daisy extends her arms out and her upper body is surrounded with flower petals for a multi-hit attack. Her legs and her head are exposed. (Mario Hoops 3 on 3)

Rhythmic Club [Forward Air]: Daisy stretches her arm out and spins a small Rhythmic Club. It has multiple hits, dealing some moderate damage. (Mario and Sonic at the Olympics)

Trick Pose [Back Air]: Daisy strikes a pose as seen in Mario Kart 8. Her arm and leg stick behind her, both of which deal damage. She also raises her other hand above her head, which also does damage. (Mario Kart 8)

Cheerleader [Up Air]: Daisy puts on a pair of pom-poms and shakes them above her twice. The second hit is stronger than the first. (Mario Sports Mix)

Skater’s Spin [Down Air]: Daisy performs a quick ice skater spin. The attack performs multiple hits and has a meteor effect on the last hit of the sweet spot [The tip of her feet]. (Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics)

Smash Attacks

Side Smash: Very similar to Peach, Daisy has a rotation of 3 items; a baseball bat [Long reach and most powerful, destroys projectiles], a Tennis Racket [Low damage, decent knockback, reflects projectiles], and Lip’s Stick (No knockback, average damage, stuns with stun lasting longer if charged more and opponent has high damage. No protection from projectiles] Rotation is always Bat, Racket, Lip Stick. Her Bat is her second most reliable kill move with the Racket being the third.

Koopa UpperKut [Up Smash]: A quick and powerful uppercut performed on Bowser in Mario Party 3. Her strongest attack and most reliable kill move, this punch will kill light opponents at 80% and heavier opponents at 120%. Its hitbox is only on her hand and will miss most opponents who crouch or are too small. Daisy begins to crouch as the attack is charged, which gives her a better chance at landing the attack. (Mario Party 3)

Piranha Plant Summon [Down Smash]: Daisy holds her arms in front of her face as she charges. The non-charged Down Smash will summon two small Piranha Plants (One on each side of her) that will only bite once. A charged Down Smash will summon two Piranha Plants half the size of Daisy that will bite twice. A fully charged Down Smash will cause Piranha Plants the height of Daisy to appear and bite 3 times. The move deals a load of damage but has horrible knockback. The last bite deals the most damage.

Special Attacks

Nipper Spore [Neutral Special]: Daisy pitches out a Nipper Spore, an enemy from Yoshi’s Island that floats down slowly. An opponent who touches a Nipper Spore will cause a flower to bloom on their head. Unlike in Yoshi’s Island, once the Nipper Spore hits the ground, it disappears. If the B button is held, Daisy can hold her pitching pose and aim the Nipper Spore in a series of 3 directions – Straight forward, diagonal or straight up. She can also face the other direction while holding her pitch. Only 2 Nipper Spores can be present at any time. (Yoshi’s Island)

Garden Slide [Side Special]: Daisy seemingly gets ready to run an athletic race. Holding the B button will allow her to keep this pose for a bit, with flowers swirling around her. Once the B button is released, she goes into a slide on her stomach with her hands held out in front of her. The longer the B button is held, the farther she slides. Getting caught by the slide puts the opponent into harsh hit stun. She leaves a trail of flowers behind her that last for about 2 seconds; contact with these flowers will leave a flower on the opponent’s head. (Mario Power Tennis)

Daisy Torpedo [Side Special in Air]: Daisy strikes a pose in the air and, with the B button held, charges, with flowers swirling around her. Once the B button is released, she launches herself in a vertical trajectory head first in whichever way she’s facing; this move is seemingly familiar, who did she learn it from?? She leaves a trail of flowers behind her, but unlike the grounded counterpart, the flowers only last half a second. These flowers will also leave a flower on an opponent’s head. On top of that, if she comes into contact with an opponent, she’ll immediately stop moving instead of continuously hitting them. The Daisy Torpedo will also have a small chance of bursting. The Burst version will always go farther and faster regardless of how charged the attack was. The Flower trail will not occur from the Burst, but anyone too close when the burst occurs will get a Flower on their head. Hitting a wall during a burst Daisy Torpedo will cause her crown to get lodged in the wall, causing her a few moments to recover her crown before she can get back into the fray.

Floaty Fluff [Up Special]: Daisy pulls out a Floaty Fluff Flower from Super Mario Galaxy 1. Like Peach’s Parasol, this attack will bring her diagonally upward in the direction she’s facing. Once the attack has reached has peaked, the flower will bloom and let Daisy slowly descent. The flower has one hit box, which is at the tip of the flower before it unfolds. This one hit box has decent knockback but won’t ever kill and gives any hit opponents a flower on their head. The flower is granted wind boxes to the sides of and above it once it opens. The flower has 3 petals which drift off fairly quickly. Once all 3 petals are gone, Daisy is sent into special fall. She can cancel the flower by pressing down on the control stick or performing an aerial attack, which also sends her into special fall. The flower can also be destroyed by opponent’s attacks, which will also send Daisy into special fall. (Super Mario Galaxy)

Crystal Smash [Down Special]: Daisy performs her Crystal Smash from Super Mario Strikers. She slams a fist on the ground and yellow crystals appear from the ground on both sides of her. These crystals deal damage and stun anyone who touches them, allowing Daisy to quickly follow up with a grab or a smash attack. The move has much longer end lag if no one gets hurt. In the air, she’ll quickly come straight down and slam the floor to perform the same move. (Super Mario Strikers)

Grabs

Magic Vine [Tether]: These classic vines from Super Mario Bros aid Daisy in grabbing her opponents from a distance. If she misses the vine will slump to the floor, and she’ll irritably pull it back to her in one swift, angry motion, which takes her some time to recover from. She can use this vine to grab the ledge from a distance. On her way back up, you can hear the vine climbing noises from Super Mario Bros.

Piranha Chomp [Pummel]: The vine transforms into a Piranha Plant and begins furiously biting the opponent. The pummel leaves a flower on the opponent’s head.

Cherry Bomb [Forward Throw]: Daisy slightly tosses her opponent in front of her and then gives them a hard kick. Kills at the edge of some stages at a high percent.

Drop Kick [Back Throw]: Daisy tosses her opponent behind her and gives them a nasty drop kick. More powerful than a Cherry Bomb but has more end lag.

Dice Destroyer [Up Throw]: Daisy tosses her opponent upwards which keeps them suspended in the air for a moment. She then punches them upwards. This move sends opponents straight up, useful for knocking them into Nipper Spores above you. Kills at a high percent when close to the top blast zone. (Mario Party)

Ground Pound [Down Throw]: Daisy grounds her opponent, quickly jumps over them and performs the famous Ground Pound. Her most reliable kill throw, this move finishes off average weight opponents at around 125%.

Final Smash

Garden Frenzy: A wooden picket fence sprouts from the ground on both sides of Daisy. Anyone caught within the fence will be wrapped in a growing vine that deals massive damage. Once the move is over, any unlucky victims to have been caught in it will also be asleep.

Taunts

Plant Party [Side Taunt]: Produces one of many plants; Flower, Piranha Plant, Floaty Fluff, Nipper Spore or Magic Vine. The Flower gets put away quickly, the Piranha Plants chomps around a bit before disappearing, the Floaty Fluff flies off, the Nipper Spore is dropped, and the Magic Vine grows straight up infinitely. This taunt can be cancelled at any time by shielding or dodging.

Cheerful Greeter [Up Taunt]: Signature “Hi, I’m Daisy!” is stated. Waves and winks at the screen.

Passionate Planter [Down Taunt]: Daisy gets on one knee and plants a small flower. The flower can come in a variety of colors: white, orange, yellow, red, blue. The flowers will disappear once Daisy has been KO’ed or the flowers comes in contact with fire. Up to 5 flowers can be planted. No effect on gameplay.
Again, this took me some time! Lemme know what you guys think so far.
I really like it! I always though Daisy would be a athletic flower based fighter and all of the fan movesets seem to agree! Still pushing for her to use her amazing glove from Mario Baseball and Smash 4.

Um... Yeah ..
That bring said, the second part of you paragraph is basically spoilers....
You learn that information by Chapter 2 and 3. That's hardly spoilers, especially since there are far more important stuff revealed later.

Like the fact Nia and Jin are actually Flesh Eaters, Pyra/Mythra sacrifices herself at the ending, and Malos is the actual leader of Torna and another Aegis created by the Architect. Heck I didn't even spoil stuff that happens early in the game, like Vandham's death in Chapter 3.

Also on a side note, if I cannot talk about anything from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, then there's going to be no point discussing how exactly Rex and Pyra and Mythra would work in Super Smash Bros., since that would involve mentioning miscellaneous information about the game.

It's not like Nintendo is exactly subtle about spoilers in Super Smash Bros. to begin with. I mean for pete's sake they flat out spoiled Mechon Fiora and Yaldabaoth. Heck even Mythra is technically a spoiler, yet Nintendo still dropped a trailer about her.

Anyone who says Spring Man is too new while demanding and prophesizing Rex and Pyra really doesn't understand the term "consistency."

Seriously though, Spring Man will get in and Rex and Pyra won't. Waluigi won't either. And Dixie will be passed up for Cranky Kong, who's Final Smash will be that Old Jukebox from the original DKC Intro

Guys, how would you feel if we got Tabuu as a character for Smash 4. I was on the roster thread and this idea came to me. He'd have to be resized, but given that he has a humanoid build he could work. Think about it, we could have a potential story mode where he makes his appearance as a boss again, and beating him this time would unlock him as a character.
I dislike the idea of Tabuu as a fighter. I would be much happier for him as a boss.
Tabuu just works more as a boss, because... he is so powerful. He can kill someone with his rings, and somehow that would have to be "nerfed", which is not right.

Also I highly doubt they are going to make a story mode, even though I dream of it.
My other hopes are on an Adventure mode.... :p

I believe there is still a plausible chance for Spring Man and Rex if they get the Greninja treatment. It's really a Gen 8 Pokemon and FE16 character that would be too recent (barring one or both of them being added as last-minute clones) for reasons I have explained.

I got this 4 u
"However, air dodges now produce a significant landing lag of 21 frames as the character lands with an air dodge active, even during vulnerability frames, making air dodges easier to punish on land, and thus riskier to use close to the ground."
Sadly, that is not enough if people are still complaining about the air dodge's intangible duration. You can't really take advantage of a Final Smash if fighters can successfully dodge everything that you try to send their way, but I guess certain Final Smashes would be considered too overpowered if they didn't have their drawbacks.

Okay, so I'm gonna try something a little bit different. Let's talk about music. In particular, I'm gonna give you guys a challenge.

And to make it a little interesting, I'm going to give you a game I don't think many of you have played.

Let's imagine, that Xenoblade Chronicles X gets a stage. It can be any location from the game you want but the important thing its that its a stage from that game.

Point is, you are in charge of picking the music tracks for that stage. But there are some requirements...

  1. There must be 10 tracks total.
  2. They must all be from Xenoblade Chronicles X.
  3. 3 of them must be remixes of some sort. You will need to specify which ones get the remixes.
  4. EXTRA CREDIT: If you want, you can pick one extra track from a Nintendo series that you don't think will ever get a stage that would fit on the stage.
Now, that's kind of daunting, especially if you don't know Xenoblade Chronicles X. I'm a nice guy though, so I've compiled several tracks that are prominent in the game and put them in the spoiler below. I've even included links so you can listen to them and small descriptions of when they play.

Be warned, the official names in the Xenoblade Chronicles X OST suck balls.

For example, Tatsu's theme is named "z39b20co13mi01cal09

Still, with my descriptions, you should be able to figure out which tracks are which.

This is the main theme of the game. Theme X is remixed is several tracks.

This is the title theme of the game. As you can tell, it remixed a bit of the Main Theme.

This is the theme of New Los Angles. It's the main town in the game and where most of your non exploration/combat gameplay happens.

This is the theme of the Ma-non Ship. The Ma-non are aliens that are friendly to humans. Eventually more friendly alien species start to live in the ship as its protected.

This is the normal battle theme. It plays whenever a non important battle is happening.

This is the people's favorite. This is the theme of tyrant battles or special optional enemies that are hard to take down. If you played the first Xenoblade Chronicles, you can compare this to You Will Know Our Names.

Of course, such a popular song has an instrumental version included as well.

This is a story important boss battle theme. This will play in boss battles that don't have their own themes.

This is the boss battle theme for sidequests. You'll honestly hear this one a lot more as there are a butt ton of sidequests.

This is the theme for one very important boss fight in the story. Saying who or what it is would be spoilers.

Yes the title is German. And yes those are attempts at German lyrics. This is the music that plays whenever you use Overdrive which is essentially your limit break. Those can last a long time, so the song's length is appropriate.

Yeah an instrumental version exists too. Unlike the Uncontrollable instrumental, this version replaces the vocals with synth. Sounds pretty neat.

This is the final boss theme. Fun Fact, this was played in an early trailer for the game.

This is the theme for Primordia. It's the game's first area and is a grassy but mountainous area.

This is the song that plays whenever you're in a cave or underground. There are a lot of caves.

This is the theme for Noctilum, the game's second area. It's an area that filled with dense rain forests and waterfalls.

This is the theme for the game's third area, Oblivia. It's a dry arid landscape that's mostly rock.

This is the song that plays when you're in Sylvalum, the fourth main area. It's a desert covered in crystals and mountains.

This is the theme for Cauldros. This is the game's final area and it is filled with lava, enemy bases and acid.

This is the theme that plays whenever you're flying in your skell. Skells are the mechas you can pilot in the game.

Tatsu's theme! Cause everyone loves Tatsu, amirite?

Hope you guys like the challenge. If you do, I'm willing to do more in the future, but let's start with this.

I don't see Tabuu returning, nor getting a playable treatment. He's pretty much designed to be the Subspace Emissary's final boss, and has to be a powerful force to prove it.

Here's a simple topic that I'm surprised we haven't talked about yet. Assuming every Pokemon and FE character returns, how would you order them on the roster screen?

For Pokemon, I'd do:
:4pikachu::4charizard::4mewtwo::4lucario::4greninja::4jigglypuff: or :4pikachu::4charizard::4jigglypuff::4mewtwo::4lucario::4greninja:

For Fire Emblem, I'd do:
:4marth::4feroy::4myfriends::4robinm::4lucina::4corrin:

Honestly, Smash 4 did Air-Dodging was fine.
Melee was a thing to get used to, but I did.
I hated Brawl's air dodging more than any other game.
If Smash for Switch kept the Smash 4 air dodging system, I would be happy.

No offense, but you're overlooking a key difference.

Spring Man's entire home franchise is brand new, and since they'd have had to decide whether to include him before ARMS was on shelves and possibly before it was even announced, he'd have had a lot of question marks surrounding him. This is notable, since there's a history of Sakurai and crew taking a wait-and-see approach to newcomers from other brand new IPs in the past, notably the Inklings. The recent statement by the ARMS directors has further complicated things.

Rex & Pyra, though? They're new faces, but for a franchise that has already established itself and keeps growing in prominence. Adding another Xenoblade character wouldn't have felt nearly the same risk back when the roster was ironed out, at least not compared to adding a character from a franchise that was still many months from debuting entirely.

I hope Pyra does not get censored, but in reality, she is most likely.
If Pyra is getting censored, they should not do it too hard. Just make her shorts longer and that is it.
Or give her a texture around her body. :p

Also...... yep.

It gets pretty tiring seeing this happen pretty much everytime XCX gets brought up...that's the thing

I think the game is highly underappreciated as is...and I feel like it's almost always down to people just not liking a few tracks that (admittedly) do get overplayed within the game (like NLA night theme and Skell theme) but that doesn't take away from most of the rest of the soundtrack being phenomenal in my opinion...

I mean listen to this!!

and this...

I'd have Pikachu coming first (with it being the main mascot), while the other Pokemon are sorted by National Pokedex order. As for Fire Emblem, sorting everyone by chronological order would make the most sense.

I feel like more people expect Rex than actually want him to be honest. Plus Xenoblade is relatively niche. What if Pyra was the main fighter and Rex was in the background?

I want a starter trio together on the roster. Lucario I put next to Pikachu because he's basically a secondary mascot at this point. Mewtwo I feel should be at the end for being the legendary. It just feels right.

But I want a starter trio, and I want them together.

Don't know if I'm too late for the Xenoblade X stage challenge, but I've been delving back into it recently after not giving it a chance when it was first released and it's amazing. I've also grown really attached to the soundtrack, partly because it stands out so much from the original and 2. I'm only at Chapter 5, so my music selection isn't really fully informed outside of listening to random later soundtracks and not caring about spoilers like with the other 2 games.

My stage pick would be Noctilum, probably a travelling stage. NLA is an obvious choice but I think an open-world game is best represented away from its hub city. Having visited all 5 continents, Noctilum gives the best 'alien' vibe, though Sylvalum is close, being only hampered by a theme that isn't really good for Smash at all, despite how good it is.

Music tracks:
  1. Black Tar (Grounded Battle Theme)
  2. Primordia (Day)
  3. Noctilum (Day/Night)
  4. Oblivia (Day)
  5. Cauldros (Day)
  6. Wir Fliegen (Overdrive Theme)
  7. Uncontrollable (Tyrant Battle Theme)
  8. Ares Battle
  9. No. EX01 (Boss Battle)
  10. Telethia the Endbringer Theme

Honestly based on what's happened in the past I can see Pokemon gong one of three ways baring if the eight gen game is announced this month or next month. They may announce at E3 since its such a HUGE deal being the first full traditional game on a home console but yeah here we go.

All or a select few or just one starters get a Battle Bond like ability in gen 8

Zeraora is like Zygarde and is given its stuff in gen 8 despite being from gen 7 thus becoming our new Lucario I guess?

A gen 8 starter gets in and someone gets booted out my money is still on :4lucario: or but less likely if Battle Bond becomes a 'thing' :4greninja: I would like :4jigglypuff: to leave but that's probably not happening

I don't see Lucario going anywhere. That dude is basically the non-Pikachu poster child for Pokemon now.

Nothing really related to Smash, but, it's Donkey Kong, which is Nintendo, which also is Smash, plus DK and Diddy is already part of Smash, so I guess it could be?

Edit: Yeah, this is a concerning warning from your friendly naighbourhood CrowGoesCaw CrowGoesCaw , and me, since I edited it inn now. Yes, the film might not be SFW, but it's hilarious.

You say that but he's been nowhere and gotten nothing in this gen as far as I know. Other than a movie as a side character appearance.

Where as Pikachu got his own Z move and more variations and another whole other Pokemon based off of it.

Lucario got no such thing, plus Mewtwo became a boss character, again.

Charizard became an air taxi, Greninja got a form that's similar to a mega evo but not.

It would be nice to have those music challenges on a variety of games and franchises.
Considering how this one went, I'm not too keen on it.

Either got "ew garbage" or "that's a lot of work."

Lucario was one of Gladion's Pokemon. Even if they didn't give Lucario as much recognition in Sun and Moon (which was kinda needed, since it hogged the spotlight in Gen VI), it's clear Game Freak still wants it to be featured in the base games.

Plus, there's also promotional material and merch for Pokemon. As far as I'm aware, Lucario is still being heavily featured in both.

I'd have gladly participated, but I'm not familiar enough with the score yet. It's about 4.5 hours on the version I got, and that takes a while to parse through, haha

Lucario was prominent in the last movie.

It isn't going anywhere.

Here's a simple topic that I'm surprised we haven't talked about yet. Assuming every Pokemon and FE character returns, how would you order them on the roster screen?

For Pokemon, I'd do:
:4pikachu::4charizard::4mewtwo::4lucario::4greninja::4jigglypuff: or :4pikachu::4charizard::4jigglypuff::4mewtwo::4lucario::4greninja:

For Fire Emblem, I'd do:
:4marth::4feroy::4myfriends::4robinm::4lucina::4corrin:
I agree with the second option for Pokemon.

For Fire Emblem:
:4marth::4myfriends::4lucina::4robinm::4feroy::4corrin:

Just because that's how the Amiibo data was organised in Echoes, and as the Amiibo came from Smash, I'd like consistency.

I feel Fire emblem has waaay to many sword users that number needs decrease or needs a work around

Does being popular in Japan really matter? I mean Punch Out wasn't.

Yet, that's a first for Western. Except, Diddy, which where European I think?
the UK so yeah.

Also been thinking about it why do some Youtube personality people pick Sans over Shantae or Yooka and Laylee over Banjo and Kazooie?

Been playing the new Shantae recently and she's super interesting.

This was posted before and the user got a warning for posting NSFW without being in a marked spoiler I'm pretty sure :p
