This is Smash, not Senate. That’s why I stopped caring about equal representation of Pokémon generations about 10 years ago.

The first generation is classic, iconic, and the most popular. That’s why it gets more.

Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Charizard, Blastoise, and Meowth plus Lucario, Greninja, and Decidueye would be awesome.

More than likely no. Characters who fit more to my playstyle are characters like Ness, Falcon, and ZSS. I imagine Riddles wouldn't play like them.

Hey guys my uncle works for nintendo and he says Ridley is absolutely 100% in Smash 5! Who else is excited to finally fight super mario, zelda, pokemon and the rest of the classic smash roster. I for one cannot wait for Ridley to L-cancel, wavedash, and wobble into my heart.

I feel like if we really look at the list of "possible" Pokemon, it's really next to impossible to actually guess what we're going to get. The standout that everyone talks about is Decidueye, but Decidueye was nowhere near the top in the popularity poll. I suppose Greninja hadn't been at the top of any poll by the time his inclusion was decided, though. But anyways, Sakurai is not required to complete the starter type trio, though many people like to speculate that he will with Decidueye. However if we ignore the starter trio and focus on things along the line of what pokemon are marketed since the announcement of gen 7, the newer ones include Lycanroc (in all its formes though primarily Dusk as of late), Mimikyu, Bewear, Rowlet, and Alolan Vulpix. No Third Stage starters have been marketed very heavily from this generation based on what I've seen. If Sakurai consulted GF when making this decision, there's a very significant chance they suggested Mimikyu or Lycanroc instead, because those guys seem to make an appearance in many pieces of Pokemon marketing. I may be wrong and missing something about whats being marketed, but I pay heavy attention to Pokemon and this is what I've been seeing. The only exception to the third stage gen 7 mon I've seen is Decidueye in Pokken, but that was a recent development and likely had no impact on Smash.

As someone who, as I said, hasn't seen Pokemon anime, played any games or actively watched anything about Pokemon.

The new Pokemons I know most about are:

Decidueye through MANY places (I knew about him way before Pokken and even thought he would be included in Pokken)
Incineroar also through many places
Lycanroc through the: I choose you Pikachu and many different marketing
Mimikyu through memes and the smash community (haven't really seen the original marketing for Mimikyu specifically outside of memes created from the marketing)

Rowlet and Alolan Vulpix I have seen, but I have only seen them in leaks when Sun and Moon was coming out, not really much in marketing.

I have no idea who Bewear is, so IDK if he is a good example in what you are saying, I literally have no idea who he is.

Well if you admittedly have not made much of an attempt towards keeping up on Pokemon information, why are you trying to debate with someone who has?

Because, marketing is meant to target people who DON'T know about a certain product. So while you might see X or Y marketing, the marketing that counts is the marketing that is actually effective at getting people who don't know about the product to learn about it.

If I can tell you that I haven't seen the marketing for Bewear then that means something huge, it means that whatever marketing is out there is having 0 effect. It means that almost every gamer that is not actively playing Pokemon probably is in the same boat as me and has no idea who he is, where as Mimikyu, Lycanroc and Decidueye are basically everywhere you look.

Edit: PS: The fact that Mimikyu is a meme means a lot, it means he is popular enough to be a meme. I didn't mean it as a bad thing when I said he was a meme.

But like, as far as original marketing from Nintendo goes, I don't see Mimikyu a lot outside of Nintendo directs (in which he is shown a bunch actually). Maybe I shouldn't have placed him as 4th.
