I'll add this in, too.

Sakurai even said there were too many Fire Emblem characters, and I DO think we'll get a new one, so I'm expecting at least one cut. Roy and Lucina would likely be the easiest cuts to quell the "too much FE" thing due to being clones, and out of them, Lucina not only takes less work, but is also much more popular.

Roy's in the sad position of being a continuously low priority character in a series with lots of characters in Smash who is unique enough to take a bit of development time, but samey enough to not be a priority.

I agree with you that Lucina and Roy are probably the most at-risk to be cut, but I also think Corrin has a chance to be cut as well. The thing is, Opossum did mention that Lucina is easier to make for the developers and more popular. As I said, Roy only returned, because the old Melee fans missed him. Mewtwo was more because Mewtwo is really popular.

I would love too see Animal Crossing get a new character Isabelle would be great she's just too cute. Or maybe Tom Nook or Mr. Resist. Whoever it is would be fine.

I personally only want one Animal Crossing newcomer, and that Animal Crossing newcomer I would want is Isabelle.

Though my expectations are at 5, if things were to follow patterns...

64: 12 new characters
Melee: 14 New characters (incl. Sheik)
Brawl: 18 new characters (incl. Zamus and all Pokemon)
4: 17 new characters (incl. all miis) and 4 new DLC for total of 21

Honestly I think there's a good shot that if a Fire Emblem newcomer isn't added, that the Fire Emblem roster stays the same wi maybe one cut at most. I can't see a full on gutting of it happening, not when the series has been exhibiting tremendous growth as of late.

Personally my guess is one newcomer and two cuts, at most.

Yeah. People keep making the mistake of lumping Mewtwo together with Lucas and Roy because he's a veteran too. Truth is, insane fan demand is what caused Sakurai to start working on Mewtwo, not because he was a popular veteran from Melee. Once it was decided that more DLC would be made, Sakurai looked to popular veterans he could bring back, and Lucas and Roy happened to fit the bill.

I don't think the entirety of roster choices are decided early on. I recall Lucario being one of the last choices in Brawl. Sakurai likely decides on characters as development goes on and see potential characters along the way. He also has to ability to go and talk to other Nintendo devs and see what is worked on. At this point he likely knows what is in the new Fire Emblem.

And that is the reason I think it's possible; Sakurai has access to stuff prior annoucement; but I don't consider it like an true shoo-in unlike the Inkling with 100% probabilities to appear in the next game.

Its never been vlear to me how popular roy is as a fire emblem character. Prior to heroes coming around i thouggt he was big but now for roy vomes accross as far less popular than quite a few others especially lyn and celica.
I could be misinterpreting but thats what it seems like id like roy to be mosifies further and to drop his awful sword mechanics or change something about them.
A spear user would be nice and my first spear user choice isnt getting in (baldr) but there are plenty in fore emblem.

I havent heard people say this character but lloyd from tales may have a shot as a semi retro rep from GameCube. But then that opens the question of why not Isaac. Id lobe to be a fly on the wall of who has these decisions to make. It cant be easy.

Many of the characters that are still popular today. Smash 4's selection wasn't the best in that regard.
Characters like Toad, Impa, Dixie, K. Rool, Takamaru and Isaac were often included in rosters, while characters like Palutena, Little Mac, Mewtwo, Pac-Man, Mega Man and even the Inklings were mentioned a lot and eventually made their way into the roster. For some reason Anthony Higgs and Adam Malkovich got a lot of traction, too.

That seems like a coincidence, but it is something nice to look at.
Also as much as I like Rowlet, I think Decuideye is more likely than Rowlet.

Oh yeah, you're right, with how soon Megaman appeared in the game, I never ended up seeing personally the "The Big Four" speculation.

Just wanna throw this out there and say that by the time the ballot came around people already knew that the Ice Climbers' absence was because of 3DS hardware limitations.

That's why Wolf got more support for Smash 4; supporting Ice Climbers to return for the game would be a fruitless endeavor.

What we weren’t aware of was that the ICies were cut, until launch. People were thinking they were definitely not cut right up until the roster leak. Similarly, people weren’t thinking Wolf was cut either.

Of course this prerelease support is different from asking for their inclusion, but it’s support nonetheless. People would beg for the character to be shown off next or would discuss it in a topic similar to this. Wolf had much much more prerelease discussion and support than ICies.

Post release there was support for both to be included, in some way shape or form in the ICies case. Being Wii U exclusive, being a single character, or even something beyond just a trophy. Well... The supporters usually didn’t care about the problems. The people who liked the characters wanted something at least. I don’t think it was impeded all that much by these problems. But Wolf still had much more support and didn’t register a blip on Nintendo’s radar. With that and what I had personally seen I don’t think either were particularly popular characters. I don’t think Roy and Lucas were particularly popular either, and they had only returned because Sakurai wanted a Melee and a Brawl character to sell as DLC.

Pretty similar to mine, but of course I have issues.

• Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Lucina are missing, that's the biggest sin of this roster in my book. And I already know what your reasoning is. I'm not going to adress the cuts because just the fact that you are assuming cuts this early is just a big no no.
• Urbosa makes no sense. Why would you pick a random champion? Adding a character just because they are from the newest Zelda game is a bad idea, but why such a specific decision? It would make more sense to give the power of the champions to Zelda. Much how she received the power of the Goddesses in Melee.
• Gen 8 is unlikely, but it's no biggy. I just doubt there's gonna be a gen 8 pokemon if this game started development in 2016. Three years earlier than Pokemon 8. If that game is even coming out in 2019.
• I would expect Dixie before King K. Rool, but King K. Rool is a requested character, so that may very well happen after the ballot.
• Sylux would be awesome, but even if he's the main villain of MP4, I doubt it will make a difference. But, I would love to see him playable.
• Muddy Mole. I'm not even gonna bother having to explain that one, but it's a "neat" addition I guess.
• I don't think there's gonna be other WarioWare characters, but what to I know? People really like Ashley.
• I think Ribbon Girl would appear as a clone and not a costume, given her necessary differences from Spring Man

Other than that stuff, this is pretty similar to mine.

Your right and I wouldn't want Isabelle to be added if that meant another character got cut I'd hope that never happen. If any other Animal Crossing characters got added hopefully it dosen't come at the cost of another.

Also when I say too cute I meant she 's adorable as are most of the Animal Crossing characters, mostly. But cuteness shouldn't 't be the reason they get it so no worries there.

I'd say Melee had the best individual tracks but I don't know how much of that is my nostalgia talking.

64's sound was a little janky but worked really well on a couple of tracks.

I honestly loved 64's music the most. Just the way it all was. Meta Crystal's theme is still the best song in the franchise to me. Wish we got that song again.

This isn't really directed at you, but what is with this mindset? We're gonna have a new character, and because of that we need to ax one already on the roster to make room? That makes zero sense, especially considering Sakurai has gone on record saying that he doesn't believe in the concept of "characters taking up roster slots" and that no character will take slots from another.

Think the last few pages reminded me while I tend to drift away from forum after speculation ends.

Regardless I actually find it's kind of hard to select newcomers this time as I haven't kept up with all games in the way I once did. Like the whole Isabelle thing as unfamiliar as I am with Animal Crossing it's kind of hard for me to even make an assumption whether I feel she's even a good fit. Same thing with most recent Pokemon since my familiarity is much weaker. So I seem to fall back on old choices or only the most recent games I've played lol

I honestly loved 64's music the most. Just the way it all was. Meta Crystal's theme is still the best song in the franchise to me. Wish we got that song again.

My favorite song in the series is the classic Melee Menu 1.

Every time I hear it, it just makes me wanna play Melee.

After all this discussions about patterns and looking into the roster for a long time, I noticed some really obvious ones.
Because of this, I'm absolutely sure these 13 will be the next newcomers:

   Meta Knight (this broke the old patterns because he does not start with MAR)

4. Even crazier, every game has had a newcomer with five letters, starting with an S:

   Sheik
   Snake AND Sonic
   Shulk
   
   So who can fill this spot? Steve. (I don't like it either but it only makes sense.)
   
   
5. And let's not forget the characters with a space in their name:

   Dixie Kong only makes sense. (King K. Rool has two spaces.)
   
   
6. Then there's the pattern of five letters, one of which being an I:

   Isaac is the only fit. CONFIRMED BOYS.
   
   
7. Every game has introduced a character in blue:

The mindset I approach it on and many people do that Smash 4 with DLC hosted about 58 characters total. Most fighting games tend to have.... issues around the 55-60+ mark. So the logic that in order to have new characters that old ones have to be removed or cut due to time reasons is extremely realistic of an expectation to have.

That mindset has no merit. Sakurai himself has said there's no such thing to him as characters taking up roster slots in light of another character.
It's just like people who don't think there will be cuts. There is always going to be cuts. We normally have about 5, and it's normally clone characters because they are lower priority even though they are easy to implement.
