On one hand I was hoping for a general direct first (Want to see more FE and AC footage), but this is great too. We’ll finally get to the bottom of all this leak business...

Not putting much stock in the Grinch anymore, but still a little bit hopeful. Whatever happens, it all gets resolved on Thursday!

I'll definitely be able to catch the direct right before work, and it being for 40 minutes feels like an early Birthday present. The added Treehouse Live segments are the icing on top of the cake, it kind of feels like E3 all over again for me. Thank you Sakurai and Nintendo for announcing this direct and helping to re-energize the hype train.

As for what I'm hoping to see... besides all the characters (confirming or deconfirming the leak), I really hope that we have our remaining Assist Trophies and Poké Ball Pokémon revealed, details about Spirit Mode and other modes not yet revealed if any, new stages if 108 is our final amount and if trophies themselves are returning as our collectibles. Also wondering if they will announce a demo of some sort in this direct, maybe at the end of the presentation or during the Treehouse Live segment. Ah, the possibilities feel endless, and it is going to be so exciting!

This is the kind of stuff I live for as a Smash fan.

I think 40 minutes is definitely enough for 7 characters. As people have said, Shadow and Ken presumably won't be getting trailers and we won't need an extensive post-trailer description by Sakurai for the rest of the characters (especially not if they're first party). Plus, if we're ending on a trailer, it'll naturally just be the character trailer and nothing else.

... Having said that, who knows if it'll be all of the same seven as prophesised by the Grinch? Only two days remain...

But for real, I think we all should also direct our focus to the other pieces of content, the modes.

I really hope we see in depth what Spirits Mode is about, all the rest of the solo modes we haven't seen that aren't Classic or Training Mode, the online and how they've improved over the last game, the rest of the ATs, stages, and items...

Pretty much the same as the last Smash Direct, but covering all loose ends.

Characters are FANTASTIC, but we gotta have the modes and other stuff to back them up, right?

I feel like spirits is gonna be an extended smash tour with more boards and features.
How exciting!

Regarding the banner, Emily from Resetera just said this a few minutes ago.

She has a (very) shaky history, but she did directly hint at Ultimate's name before E3. Take her words as you will.

Break the Targets is my most wanted thing out of this Direct, I don't even care if it's just like in Brawl, it's just gotta be there.

I'm unfortunately not expecting good ol Hershel for the base game but who knows. Maybe Sakurai will tease a few upcoming DLC characters in the direct too like he did with Mewtwo...

How would you all feel if the Toby leaker was real all along and we're getting Rayman, Black Shadow, and Funky? He called almost everything else right, just no Richter. He even called Mimyku as a pokeball pokemon and Ashley as an assist.

Predictions:

Obviously, this makes or breaks the banner leak, DasVergeben, and the insiders.

At least 2 characters and 1-2 echoes will be revealed, along with accompanying discussion about their moves and such. I feel, however, that this may be the final info dump we get, and we might get the full roster revealed.

Details on the blurred green mode.

Details on Amiibo functionality.

Stages: Stage builder may get revealed or deconfirmed. We'll probably see for sure of CoroCoro got it right with the 108 stages or not.

Miscellaneous information will probably be covered. Items and assist trophies again, maybe, and I feel like trophies will either be shown as returning or being replaced with something else. They've been a mainstay for 3 out of 4 games, and I feel like Sakurai will address this here.

DLC may get addressed, but the chances of this are really low. I know Sakurai doesn't like doing DLC before finishing the base game, but Nintendo may think otherwise. At the very minimum, "DLC is being considered, so please stay tuned."

You know, if the Grinch leak is proven fake during the Direct, I think I will still be equally amazed.

If the leak was true, I'd be amazed at Sakurai and his team for cramming more characters and content into a Smash game than anyone could have thought was possible.

If the leak is fake, I'll be amazed at how the leaker fooled so many of us (me included) and I would just,.. take my hat off in appreciation.

Anyway, I'm hyped for the Direct. Bring it on!!

At the very least the leak has given us something to pass the time with, of course that's easy to say for someone like me who doesn't have any characters I really want on there, but man October was dire before that.

Any guesses as to how much of the direct will be treehouse-related? I feel that at least 15 minutes has to be dedicated to Spirts and the new characters.

Remember, it was thought that Mystic hinted at dlc for Sora, but he later confirmed he didn’t hint at him, and that Lloyd is the dlc character he’s hearing. So we really have no leads on a possible Sora DLC, especially now that we know no big Nintendo characters are in Wreck it Ralph 2, Mario movie being made by Disney’s competitor, and the Nintendo theme park at Disney World’s competitor.
