Is the banner leak REAL or FAKE?

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I'm 100% unsure at this point and just waiting on something official before I say it's either because for every pro there's a con and for every con there's a pro. It's at a complete standstill if you ask me and I wouldn't be surprised if it stays this way until Nintendo releases something to prove once and for all that it's one way or the other.

So we know an analysis was done that showed discrepancies between the leaked battlefield and the official one in places covered by characters. I'd like to see an analysis done to see if there are spots hidden behind characters that the leak got right. If so that would go a long way to prove if it's legitimate.

There are areas behind the characters that are correct...

But they're the areas that were shown before Simon, Richter, Chrom, Dark Samus and K. Rool faded in at the end of the direct.

I mean if people here/on Reddit don't find out who/where the guy is, 4chan will. That's just how it goes. Though I'm more suspecting that this is an elaborate hoax by someone with incredible attention to detail.

On Mach Rider's gender:

I know very little about the character, but look at the in-game art.

That is undeniably a male physique the likes of Captain Falcon.

Of course, there is always the "Samus" argument that it could be a woman in a suit, except that Samus was in a suit of large power armor that hid her identity, not a jumpsuit that showed muscle definition. You could stretch and say that it's a muscle suit with those built in to give that false impression, but... come on. Do you think the developers were putting that much thought and effort into it? Samus was only a woman because someone on the development team said "Wouldn't it be cool if Samus turned out to be a girl?" and that was it. I doubt the developers of Mach Rider were working on an elaborate ruse. And since this game predates Metroid, I find that even less likely.

It's not impossible, but I find it hard to believe that it's gone unconfirmed for over 30 years if this is indeed true. Sakurai could always make it true, though.


There isn't. The games unanimously refer to her as female. The Smash blog made a goof and said "it" but that's since been corrected. The only people who want to argue otherwise are just deluded.

Personally hoping that Mach Rider is a girl...honestly, a lot of -great, qualified and high potential- female characters either got deconfirmed as assist trophy’s, or are most likely just not going to be playable. It’s a male dominated cast and I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with portraying a really cool character as female, and the more the merrier. And before you come for me for whatever reason, I’m a guy with three older sisters who I grew up thinking were total bad***’s...and I thought they were cooler than any guys I knew. So I always always always love when there are independent awesome female characters, especially in video games. Makes me think of my sisters

This is a very good point. The new company doesn't seem to list their clients anywhere so why does everyone just assume that means they're NOT working with Nintendo and/or Bandai Namco? My understanding is their website doesn't detail their clients

The original company had ties to Namco which backed up the leak. This new company doesn't have ties that we know of to anyone...meaning all we have to tie them to Smash and the Grinch is the assumption that they're tied to Smash and Grinch.

Psienergy are the magic of Golden Sun, the growth psienergy makes some vines.
The item looks to be the growth icon in bubble, like an item of the game that allows someone to use a psienergy (like Catch Beads for example)

The Mach Rider appeared in the arcade (It was essentially a modified version) to Mach Rider, Vs. Mach Rider (No canon). Each time the player completed a level, an image was gradually revealed of a woman with a dagger standing next to Mach Rider's bike. It is unclear whether this is meant to represent Mach Rider's true identity, or if she is a survivor in the gated community of the resistance, as the only plot text in the game describes the 10 mission scenarios and she is not present in the NES original.

While Mach Rider has not gained a true sequel, many elements from the game, such as the futuristic setting, incredibly high speeds, and aggressive racing have also been used in Nintendo's premier racing series F-Zero, making it somewhat of a spiritual sequel to Mach Rider. Even the title character of Mach Rider bears some similarity to the hero of the F-Zero series, Captain Falcon. (Because both characters are different)

Other appearances:

• Super Smash Bros. Melee: Mach Rider is one of the trophies in the game.
• WarioWare Twisted!: There is a microgame based on Mach Rider that includes him.
• Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Mach Rider appears as a sticker of him astride his bike grants 29 extra points to the Explosive Damage stat.
• Mario Kart Wii: While Mach Rider doesn't appear himself, one the unlockable bikes is the Mach Bike.

None of the example products they have listed on their site involve Bandai, Nintendo, Illumination or Universal.
The problem is that we need to assume that they ARE working together to even give this leak any semblance of truth.

Alright here's why I think it could be real:

-Obviously in a workshop

-Snapchat video could have been sent to friends or was seen by others who took screenshots of it, then spliced together the character mural after blowing parts of it up from their screenshots

-The company won't say anything

-The Assassins' Creed thing that was found shows that they at least work in videogames, so they may or may not work with other companies and have a variety of decoration designs

-The background's differences could be due to costs for printing / certain colors of printer ink

-As the company seems to be for printing and creating decorations, they may not be graphics artists, so the materials may be supplied to them

-Amount of effort needed to not only make the banner, but make the band for a circular fixture and its wrapping etc., and the ceiling ornament (what appears to be some sort of lamp or circular thing underneath the "LOL"), if it's fake

-Commands for the program left on the wall

-Could be the video was meant for friends, but was probably seen by others who took screenshots from it and leaked it

-Chadondorf leak may or may not be connected

-Sakurai didn't specifically say they were slowing down on character reveals, but reveal trailers; multiple characters may be in one trailer. Even then, he may have been tempering our expectations so he could surprise us with more popular characters

-Characters are some that could be ballot picks, and some also being mentioned by Sakurai before (Geno, Banjo-Kazooie, Mach Rider), and the Chorus Kids could have been planned or considered for Smash 4

-Incineroar could still be in, but may come later, and this banner could be for earlier marketing (like the card with the download code in Japan or the box that comes out on November 2nd (not the Box Theory box))

Of course as many assumptions could be made for it being fake, which is why where's the direct, give me the direct so this will end, dang it.
