Im starting to think that the reason that Samus and Mach Rider gender thing was caused because the western audience didnt like the idea of "using a girl character" during the 80's

Same, like I don't know if the devs have a bias against Sonic or SEGA's just really stubborn. At least we have both of his stages here (GIVE US MORE MUSIC. LOTS MORE. 20 SONGS IS AN EMBARRASSMENT).

My friend who played Sonic at a demo we went to a while ago said you can move Sonic along his horizontal axis, so I don't think it'll be worthless. Definitely seems better for FFAs than 1v1s though.

Oh? That's a relief to hear. Maybe it'll get some getting used to.
Because my impressions of it so far is, that if you can duck, you're safe from it.

I don't even expect it to KO at 0% ... 10%... 30%... or even 50%. I honestly expect it to KO at over 60%. But so far, every footage I've seen has the opponent surviving it, after being hit from 0 to 2 times tops.

Hopefully it gets buffed by game's release.

Also... more vocal music please! And Studiopolis. Wouldn't hurt to have a Sonic 1 to Knuckles medley.

Are there any characters that if they get in you'll be set for life? (or at least one Smash cycle)

Honestly if I can get Rex/Pyra/Mythra in DLC for Ultimate or even just Elma I will be set. I don't think we need 3 reps from Xenoblade. (even though I would love it lol) unless the next XC comes out before the next Smash and is absurdly popular. I'll still push for Rex in the next game if just Elma gets into Ultimate but I won't be upset at all if he doesn't get in

The Mach Rider appeared in the arcade (It was essentially a modified version) to Mach Rider, Vs. Mach Rider (No canon). Each time the player completed a level, an image was gradually revealed of a woman with a dagger standing next to Mach Rider's bike. It is unclear whether this is meant to represent Mach Rider's true identity, or if she is a survivor in the gated community of the resistance, as the only plot text in the game describes the 10 mission scenarios and she is not present in the NES original.

While Mach Rider has not gained a true sequel, many elements from the game, such as the futuristic setting, incredibly high speeds, and aggressive racing have also been used in Nintendo's premier racing series F-Zero, making it somewhat of a spiritual sequel to Mach Rider. Even the title character of Mach Rider bears some similarity to the hero of the F-Zero series, Captain Falcon. (Because both characters are different)

• Super Smash Bros. Melee: Mach Rider is one of the trophies in the game.
• WarioWare Twisted!: There is a microgame based on Mach Rider that includes him.

Mach Rider is more of an actual character, where as those who can currently switch between genders are avatars or ones where you can do it in their source games. I think they'll pick one or the other, if Mach Rider is even in of course.

Metroids do have sexes but asexually reproduce as Queens can literally pop larvae out of their backsides.
However Dark Samus is definitely female, she is consistently referred to with female pronouns in both Prime 2 and 3 and also has a distinctly female voice. There's also the matter that in the Prime Core Essence Battle she can spawn Metroids on a whim (though that may have been more for gameplay).

Yes because Captain Rainbow is totally canon to half a dozen other franchises.
Also, scrapped content means nothing; it was scrapped for a reason. Did Sora visit Toy Story prior to Kingdom Hearts 3 simply because a Toy Story world was scrapped for the first game?

While Captain Rainbow isn't canon to any other games except itself, it's rather telling that they had a Mach Rider in the game's files, who they chose to depict as female.

Basically, it's irrelevant that it's cut content.

I hate to think we may have to endure another 2 weeks with no info and this leak floating around if the Nov. 8 rumors are true. I think Nintendo has messed up by having such a huge gap in news and allowing the most recent news (Isabelle) be by many people's standard a bit boring. They are opening themselves up to potential (and likely imo) real leaks if the banner leak isn't real. Also, waiting so close to release can't be the best move to promote a game. They should have kept it more steady.

When talking about an alien species I don't think female and male voices is an actual arguement. Yea there's no hiding the fact that the developers themselves say she's female.

Also for everyone going why does it matter??? It matters when like 85% of your roster is male (I forget the exact number but it's a lot). You know what's not a bad thing? Wanting more female reps. (Also don't pull that wanting diversity for the sake of diversity bull, because this character isn't being brought up because of their gender, but instead from a possible leak and people are determining their gender).

It's cool if you don't care about a character's gender. It's not cool to tell those who do that it's not important, because it is to them.

This is a very good point. The new company doesn't seem to list their clients anywhere so why does everyone just assume that means they're NOT working with Nintendo and/or Bandai Namco? My understanding is their website doesn't detail their clients

On Mach Rider's gender:

I know very little about the character, but look at the in-game art.

That is undeniably a male physique the likes of Captain Falcon.

Of course, there is always the "Samus" argument that it could be a woman in a suit, except that Samus was in a suit of large power armor that hid her identity, not a jumpsuit that showed muscle definition. You could stretch and say that it's a muscle suit with those built in to give that false impression, but... come on. Do you think the developers were putting that much thought and effort into it? Samus was only a woman because someone on the development team said "Wouldn't it be cool if Samus turned out to be a girl?" and that was it. I doubt the developers of Mach Rider were working on an elaborate ruse. And since this game predates Metroid, I find that even less likely.

It's not impossible, but I find it hard to believe that it's gone unconfirmed for over 30 years if this is indeed true. Sakurai could always make it true, though.

There isn't. The games unanimously refer to her as female. The Smash blog made a goof and said "it" but that's since been corrected. The only people who want to argue otherwise are just deluded.

I think many people that believe it is fake are falling into the trap of just because somebody could fake it means they did. Just because somebody could potentially have the ability doesn't mean that it is definitely fake. Just my observation.
