If this leak is true, which it's looking like it is, then I guess I can stop hoping for Medusa for now.. I'm way more frustrated that this leak might've just spoiled everything.. but I would've inevitably found out about it. At least those are all newcomers I feel excited about so that's really nice!

So, Spawn Wave says there are a few characters, or at least one missing from the leak. It appears he doesn't deny this leak completely. So maybe this leak still has some merit to it?

WHAT IS THIS TIMELINE

Imagine if somebody had come 24 hours ago to tell us that the next day we would get all these newcomers from a French leak on Snapchat while also receiving publicty from a fast food chain.

My guess (hopes) on stages, if this is real:

104. Golden Sun stage
105. Banjo & Kazooie stage
106. Rhythm Heaven stage
107. Minecraft stage
108. Monster Hunter stage

Though, the five unique characters do line up nicely with five missing stages. It's really hard to tell at this point.

Hey I'll be bummed out too but the roster is already good as it is I'd have no complaints since I got and. That and in the end this is Sakurai's game so he can do whatever he wants.

I'd still be rooting that somehow she'd make DLC though.

Why do you guys follow leakers like this? You realize that the leaking is a way to drive publicity/views to their channels right? This is all part of their internal marketing... Do not buy into things people say during hot leaks because they know they can catch attention and monetize the views.

I won't lie. I'm trying my damned best to remain skeptical, but things keep stacking up with this one. Time will tell if it's real or fake, but at this point, I'm unsure. Although it'd be incredibly difficult to fake, it still isn't impossible to do so. And I still feel that the total number of new characters and clones are a bit high when you factor all the returning veterans. But if this leak truly is real, the Hell are they going to do for DLC?

Many of the characters in the leak were characters I had pegged as DLC. If they're in base-game, what else are they going to do?

All the veterans are back. Many heavy-hitters like Ridley and King K. Rool are in. 3rd Party characters we never thought would be in like Simon and possibly Banjo are in. Even other largely-requested characters are in the game in some form, like Waluigi and Krystal as Assist Trophies. And to top it off, there may be even more unannounced characters? STAR FOX PLEASE!

I mean, Spring Man & Rex are a given, but who else is there? A new Pokemon since there may be none in the base game? Promotional characters for upcoming titles? Maybe after the Waluigi outrage we may see Assist Trophies be promoted?

This whole leak has thrown me for a damn loop, that's for sure.

Yeah it's important to note that no one gains from this leak. Not the French dude who's career is probably ruined, or the French company since they'll probably have a lot of business Thanos snapped, not Sakurai, NOBODY. No one is doing this to ***** out for views or attention.

What's interesting is the leak is missing at least one character, so it could be fake or timed for a certain release with certain reveals.

I'm calling it, the missing character is Zack Fair. Cloud was weirdly placed on the box, it doesn't discredit anything else, and I'm biased and I like Zack and want him as a Cloud echo.

Now that'd be hype. And even more unlikely than this being true at all

I'm still not buying it, but if that did turn out to be true, Smash Ultimate would have to be the single biggest shot in the arm of fan service ever officially conceived by a company.

It would also explain what the development team has been doing with their extra resources since the development schedule is roughly three years yet we have very few new stages and there's only one version to be worked on. I was under the assumption it was just a smaller team.

Anything can be faked. People have a crazy amount of talent with the programs and tools out there nowadays.

While this isn't Smash related, it does show how impressive fan works can be: Example

People really underestimate what people are able to do by themselves nowadays.

I really like how Derrick of GameXplain argues against the leak by saying "it's blurry, so it MUST be fake".

Virtually every leak looks like it was a Zapruder film, Derrick! It's an universal law.

But, the ESRB Leak was blurry as hell, too. And that showed the whole base roster.

Look, I know people will automatically go "fake", but most of the time, any leak dies a quick death due to either somebody confessing they did it for fun, or it's revealed that it was an asset flip with some mistakes during the editing process.

The fact that this one hasn't died already and that the sources line up for it to be legitimate illustrate that this could be as legitimate as you could get. And, the magnitude of this reveal that has happened on the Internet will only fuel this more.

Derrick has a history of assuming that leaks are fake initially, this is nothing new. He even thought the ESRB leak was fake at first.
