Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Man, you guys really don't want to hear my opinions on Beyblade and Monster Rancher.
Beyblade! Is that still going? Remember it being among the bunch in the anime invasion.

It wasn't good at all but I remember my cheap Happy Meals blade.

I generally don't like hearing anything in this topic that isn't about playing Smash which could be an infinite wellspring of discussion if we wanted it to be, but I could certainly take a break to hear your opinions about Beyblade or Monster Rancher.

No but if you could tell us what you think about Pogs.
I have a relative who excels at giving Christmas gifts of "fads that never made it or recently died."

Ergo my collection of pogs, Nerf Wii Sports accesories, and the-male-penguin-Hello-Kitty-no-one-remembers memorabilia.

Because I'm this close to considering live cryogenics, I just want to know, how many people here would like to take part in a tourney?

By that, I mean, if I considered organizing a SmashBoards-based tourney with users like us, how many of you would want to try it out? If I can make this work, I will keep this mind.
If this is an open invitation, I'd be happy to join. If it's Ultimate that is, I don't have access to 4 anymore

Digimon anime or Pokémon anime?

Some people told me that the first is better.
Digimon generally.

Pokémon for the most part is stuck in a formula, and due to that the characters and stories can't fully reach their potential in terms of development, their ambitions, and ideas since it's all restricted by marketing and the higher ups. Ultimately, despite also being an anime destined to push mechandise, Digimon is given more freedom to do things differently and it usually ends up better for it. Characters are allowed to have stronger character development due to better focus and time on them, stories are allowed to have proper arcs since the progression isn't limited to what the games do and more to what the ideas behind the series are, and the new mechanics and ideas can be played around with and used to the story's benefit. Due to all that, Digimon tends to have a better show to give outside of what it wants to push, and that's why it stands out among the other monster franchises in terms of that part of itself.

It can be related to Smash if we really want it to.

I mean, I'd unironically kill for a Beyblade item just for the absurdity of it

It should be, but I could be wrong. Anybody remember Bakugan though?

I've looked at it and it looks like a pretty average game to me.
The joke is that Knack is not good.

It's so unmemorable and mediocre and unrelated to Nintendo that I'd expect more people calling for him to be in Smash.

Beyblades were all the rage in kindergarten for me; so much so that the teachers had to ban them. Lmao. I had one or two of them. Fun little toys.

Never saw the anime but I saw a suggested video that said Beyblade is apparently still going strong but very under the radar/undercover for most people

Wait, what? Why would the teachers ban something for just being popular? Were kids spinning tops in class instead of paying attention?

Yugioh was big when i was in school, still is going on today but now it has more rules to it than North Korea and is impossible to keep up with.

I thought that Omega stages were made for that purpose.
And watch them ban all of those stages like last time.

Remember that when we have upward of 20+ competitive stages there were rumors that the TO’s originally wanted to cut it down to 5-6 because that’s how it was in previous games. :4pacman:

I’m hoping that they take the competitive scene to it’s full potential. That Smashdown mode looks like we’ll be getting crew battles now too.

And please, no more Animal Crossing.

Yu-Gi-Oh: Duelists of the Roses is actually one of my favorite games. I'd love to see another Yu-Gi-Oh video game with the same ruleset as that and newer cards in it. Capsule Monster Colosseum, Reshef of Destruction, and Duel Board Monsters are all good as well.

Let me ask you guys this. What is your favorite move in the Smash series? For me it's probably Brawl/4 Ganondorf's Side-B. Fits the character well, does good damage, bypasses shield, sets up combos. ROB's Top gets special mention. I love getting to play mind games with throwing it straight-up or tossing it just in front of someone, and it's such a nice spacing/edge-guard tool.

Yep. I remember liking creature design and characters like in second season or something and balls were cool but that's it.

Um... I think you mean Squad Strike.

It's a tossup between Ness's PK Fire and PK Thunder. Those moves are the main reason he's my main.

And my plan has succeded one more time!

Look at all that talk about Digimon and Pokémon.

Now you guys understand why Agumon in Smash would explode the internet? :ultpacman:

I'm quite partial to what my avatar suggests. Mr. Game & Watch's turtle in Brawl is what I think everyone can agree is objectively the greatest move in the Smash series. It does 15%, shreds shields, has absurdly good basic in-built protection and mix-up of sorts thanks to the outstanding landing hitbox, and it has so much range that you can outspace everything this side of Ike or Shuttle Loop by working in combination with G&W's strong aerial mobility. Brawl's silly amounts of SDI were somewhat of a downer with the move long term, but it still just did a ton of work for the character and was pretty much at the top of the list of my favorite moves to use over and over and over again.

4 ruined the move, of course, but 4 G&W is a sad character all around. Maybe G&W will be back to his Brawl glory in Ultimate?

I'm just amazed it's literally the only Wars of the Roses based video game known about.. With Card games, Anime, Witchcraft, and Henry VII having weird hair.

Wario's N-air and B-air. They've always been really fun to use for me, and I've always managed to get some decent KOs with Wario's B-air.

Good runner ups though are Luigi's Up-B and Dash attack. Those are always super satisfying when used well IMO, especially if you use Luigi's D-Throw and Up-B together.

EDIT: Oh, and I really like Wario and Luigi's D-Air, although I wish Wario's had more spike potential to it...

Eh, probably Warlock Punch.
No particular reason other than how satisfying it is when people run into it.

EDIT: Or Ganondorf's Dair.

Chances are I'll find a new favorite with Inkling or K. Rool.

Favorite move would have to be Monado Arts. Sense that's not a move in the traditional sense, I'd also have to give a shout out to (true) Shoryuken. Landing that thing feels so good every time, and I'll sometimes throw it out in neutral just for the shout and then promptly get punished..

My least favorite move is Corrin's counter, no question. I've been killed by that an embarrassing amount of times.

I fought a computer last night with 'Dorf and Warlock Punched after respawning for laughs and giggles, and then the computer (a level 8) ran right into it. It gave me a pretty good chuckle, and also reminded me why 'Dorf is one of my all time favorite Smash characters. :p

I don't know if I could say just one move, but any one of Ganondorf's aerials for me. I think they're all so fun and satisfying to land. Sorry I'm more in-depth, but those moves are likely why Ganondorf is so fun play for me.
