Unpopular Opinion:
I think Tracer from Overwatch is getting in as a DLC fighter, if not another Blizzard rep (most likely Tracer imo though since Overwatch is a possibility for Switch as stated by the devs themselves and could tie into it).

I think Diablo is a good one as well though.

I don't want Joshua because he's probably gay or even because he is a good character. I want Joshua because he can make cars fall from the sky by a phone call and if won't be the best spammable move in Smash history, I'll eat my hat.

Same. Joshua is legit my favorite character in terms of design, gameplay, and character. Probably only second to Sho Minamoto, but that's cheating.

I'm thinking you hit guys with enough cars, he enters "jesus beams" mode.

The above had already been answered for me. Before then I my knowledge with how Soulcalibur went wasn't too great thinking each game only had one guest or exclusives (Like how Soulcalibur did with Link, Spawn and Heihachi).

It’s fine. I’m not that knowledgeable about SC that much. However I don’t think it would be a issue adding more guest characters since DLC exist now and these days

I'm afraid that Tracer is currently ineligible.

Sakurai seems to want an appearance on a Nintendo console as a requirement.

When speaking about Cloud, he said that he would have had misgivings if Cloud had made no appearances on Nintendo consoles. That appearance seems to matter.

Good lord I hope not there's far better Third Party choices IMO like Banjo, Sora and such. I'd even take Steve? over Tracer.

Yeah, I don't see how we're getting a new look at a "trial version" of Smash Ultimate. They've done this Nintendo Live event before in the past, I don't think we're gonna be seeing an entirely new build if we've gotten every event that showed Smash Ultimate having the E3 build.

I'm pretty sure it's just "Demo of new releases" of new series and not "new trial versions" of these games.

Had Sakurai said that we would get more news about characters from blog during the e3 direct while keeping some characters that were revealed in smash e3 trailer along with ridley and inkling gir for demol, all of goddamn news drought hasn't happen.

I can see is that more speculations on who will be returning to smash. Even better, throw snake and others that were cut from previous smash game as surprise to make hype train keep going than ever. But that will ruin point of "EVERYONE IS BACK!" So that's why Sakurai was rushing to revealed every characters in an e3 trailer.

Also, we're discussing other games instead of smash?

If I can say, Red Dead Redemption 2 looks good but I want to save my money for smash mainly.

I'd actually be alright with that--unlike Minecraft and Fortnite, Overwatch is about the interesting characters, and I think Tracer could be cool (it is a first person game, which is a pet peeve of mine, but it's something). Also Blizzard would be an interesting new company, along with Microsoft, Ubisoft and Activision (though I'm guessing Blizzard is a part of Activision Blizzard... so long as Crash gets in as DLC, I'm good), and I feel like Overwatch is the best Blizzard game to come to Smash in terms of characters.

Something tells me though Red Dead Redemption 2 is probably gonna win. Who knows maybe it'll surprisingly be God of War though considering how detailed the story was.

Specifically my choice would be Gul'Dan. He's important to nearly every bit of Warcraft lore. With his least important appearance being in Warcraft 3, but still appearing. Warcraft 2 was one of my favorite games growing up and he was one of the most important characters in that game.

He also had an important role in the Warcraft movie and multiple roles and appearances in WoW

Unpopular Opinion Time: I don't know why so many people like the Subspace Emissary now. I will admit having a bunch of cutscenes with characters interacting with each other was cool, but the actual gameplay and level design was just so underwhelming. Why did they have levels with generic forest, desert, cavern, etc. scenery instead of actual locations from Nintendo games? Why did they put in weird OC enemies instead of recognizable ones like Kremlings in the jungle levels or octoroks in the forest level? I can understand why people liked the SSE, but it would need some serious reworking if Sakurai was planning on making "Spirits" Mode a successor to it, but I think it will just be its own thing with elements taken from Melee's Adventure mode, boss battles, and Smash Run instead of another Story mode with cutscenes.

Why? part is obvious. Making models of real game locals and enemies is a lot harder because you need to work close with source material and require permission. That's why even Smash Run used Subspace Army and a lot of Kid Icarus enemies with still an original background.

Personally, I liked the designs and abilities of the army and while it was generic, world being original didn't bothered me, nor it did in Smash Run.

Spirits might put in more references and I'd appreciate it but not everything in Smash have to be lifted from other Nintendo games for me to enjoy it.

In a just world, Smash Ultimate would win by a landslide. Unfortunately, fighting games don't tend to do well in regards to GotY Awards.

This year is pretty much gonna be a PlayStation sweep. Everywhere else will probably be dominated by Nintendo. However, 2019? If Metroid, Animal Crossing and/or Bayonetta join Smash for Nintendo's side, 2019 will be a 3 or 4/5th's Nintendo.

No matter what, Smash Ultimate will be a GOTY nominee next year, but Sakurai better win a ****ing industry icon award sooner or later. He deserves it more than Kojima, and Kojima even bows under Sakurai.

I don't think it's unpopular--I think many people who love Subspace Emissary say the issue they have is with the level designs. The main appeal is the story/character interactions. Ideally a new Subspace would be where you take some popular Nintendo series levels (e.g., Mario, Zelda, Metroid) as well as some third parties, including series with assists (e.g., Mega Man, Monster Hunter, Minecraft) and have 2D levels based on those games with enemies from those games in it. It would be awesome, but definitely on the highly optimistic end of the spectrum.

I'm not sure if Nintendo will even win NEXT year. They never seem to win GotY unless it's something as mindblowing as Breath of the Wild...

That would be really cool, but there is a reason only Melee did it and the stages were generally small and linear.

On the other hand, we'll probably get Rathalos and Dracula in their original settings, so it might indeed be the case.
