Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Trying to avoid the Box discussion once again, do you think characters such as Marx and Fi who technically don't have hands would be a problem to implement in Smash? How would they grab items?

Some characters use their mouth to hold items, but... I can't remember precisely, but I think Pichu does it... can't remember if Pikachu does it too.
But Fi would look absolutely awkward doing this.
Marx I don't know... he may work, but I'm not sure... it's still something that's ok if done by animal characters, but looks weird with everything else.
Something that can be done for Marx: In the manga he has hands. It's not canon, though maybe they can make him spawning hands when he needs to.
Or, another option is that he uses those nails on his wings as hands, and grabs items with those (a slight redesign may be required).

I don't know if there are other characters with a similar issue.
Magic like mewtwo. Homestar logic.

They could work great, but after waddle dee please. We need hat goomba so bad. I would love him as dlc. In conjunction with more kirby star allies dlc is best.

You could just have Fi use magic or something. I know she's never shown actually doing something like that, but it would be a necessary evil.

Anything that's in the same style as the Ken leak, is bound to be just an imitator...
Besides, Raiden can stay in Playstation All-Stars: Battle Royale, where he belongs...
Ah, well okay. I was mostly curious because it seems like it may've possibly came from the person that actually did do the Ken leak since it has a new angle of a stage (the Metal Gear one, forgot the name) and it had the debug menu.

I just realized we are near 5500 posts. Nice.

Given we are near the middle of october, are we expecting 1 more direct or 2?

Feela like 1 unless we get an announcement next week
I'm expecting probably just one more Smash Direct in either mid to late October, or early November..

Wait... it Does? Show me a link to it again...
I saw it earlier, but dismissed because of Raiden

What are everyone's most wanted stages? These would be mine.

Bowser's Castle (Super Mario RPG; Exor as a boss)
Gangplank Galleon (Donkey Kong)
Spiral Mountain (Banjo-Kazooie)
Underworld (Kid Icarus; Hades as a boss)
Weapons Factory (Mario RPG)
Bowser's Castle (Literally any iteration, seriously, how it this not in Smash yet?)
A Metroid level that doesn't revolve around Lava
City Escape (SA2)
Minecraft Stage (Steve or no Steve I feel a Minecraft stage would be pretty fun)

Probably plenty of others I can't think of off the top of my head.

I think this thread is in some desperate need of some...

PEACE AND TRANQUILITY

There is no need to be upset. This is just a video game. One where plumbers punch hedgehogs in the face and cephalopod children shoot brightly colored ink at vampire hunters. Look at Hat Kid's little dance. It is cute. Just like this Marie:

Be calmed by the Marie. Be chill. All is well. It's just a box. It's just a game theory. There is no need to antagonize one another over it. No one will care once the game is out anyways. Just enjoy the game. Or not. It's up to you, my friend, but let's be excellent to each other.

Logically it would make sense for Nintendo to have the Direct soon so as to give Pokemon breathing room for a targeted marketing push leading up to release, but it's Nintendo. So who the **** knows. They could stay quiet about Smash til December.

Looks like the Nintendo Switch retail booths finally updated with Smash on it. Wasn't there when I checked last week.

IMG_20181013_203704669.jpg

Nothing new on it, it's all footage we've seen in directs and videos and all that, but it is a different cut/spilce/montage made for it and not just trailers we've already seen.

Just one of those things that reminds me how dang close this game is to release.

Nintendo is crazy, they can pull this big lack of new information on us and still get our money.
Its like magic I tell you

Agreed this is why I hope something is next week or the last week of October (Say even the 31st to tie into Spirits being revealed). That and November is very risky when it comes to leaks as the entire roster would likely be revealed by then before the Direct hits.

Five thousand five hundred pages.
Wonder how many we'll be up to when the games out?
Hmm...

I'mma say... somewhere around...

Yeah, something like that.
(Note: I'm actually not just trying to be funny, I would roughly estimate the page count to be 8000/9000+ by December)

I like that idea. Lets hope for a Halloween final direct.

I can see it work for Fi since it's a mystical character with mysterious abilities, though, I think it would be a bit out of character for Marx.
In the Kirby series, many characters have floating hands, but usually every character who can hold stuff, have visible hand, maybe floating but visible (as far as I remember).
The only character who holds a sword with no hands is Dark Matter Blade, and the sword is held under the cape so the player can't see how he grabs it.

It's possible for some characters to make items levitate with magic, but I think Marx is not one of those characters, at least he has never done anything similar as far as I know.

Maybe floating items like Mewtwo aren't that bad... I just need to see it in action to see if it looks fine or not.
I mean, if a Goomba can play Baseball in a Mario spin-off, maybe it's not that much of an issue...
But I'm not sure, that's the Mario series, to an extent it's even more random than Kirby.

End of the month/first week of November seems right to me. It fits in line with Nintendo's habit of airing game focused Directs about a month or two before release, and it avoids clashing with Pokemon.

I'd rather end of October because again November is bad time for leaks.

I know I keep repeating myself but it makes me hope if that's the case they reveal Medusa, Skull Kid and maybe even Nightmare (Soulcalibur).
Pretty sure Simon and Richter would have been held of if the next direct was trying to have a Halloween theme. They are the go to characters for a Halloween reveal

We'll only be in danger of that if they wait past preload going live and marketing materials being sent out, which I personally don't see happening, but who knows. Just gonna have to wait and see.

A Halloween direct would be pretty cool, but depending on who's left I feel like they would've probably saved Simon and Richter for it. Unless they've got some even spookier characters in store.

Edit: I guess me and Smashing Ramen had the same thought lol

I'll predict an announcement of a Direct will be either next Thursday (the 18th) or around the 23rd-25th.

The actual Direct, I won't even bother.

I highly doubt we'll be getting anything in December--it would all be leaked in November. However, if we grant the possibility of a December announcement, Banjo at the Game Awards on the 20th anniversary of their release in Japan would make a lot of sense (I believe this is a highly low probability, mainly as I don't see a December announcement happening).

My guess is a late October Direct. My hope is a one-off announcement soon and a early November Direct.

Nintendo, could you give us like... ANY gameplay of the non-demo characters?

Not even the newcomers, just guys like Young Link or Pichu so we have something to look at.

I meant to say November... Oops...
