Well, they're iconic enough for that to happen, so I guess. So, has anyone anywhere made a good moveset for a playable Steve at all?

In regards to the Steve negativity, all I have to say is.

If you complained about the community reaction to Isabelle, but are now complaining about Steve getting in congrats, you're a hypocrite.

You can't tell people to grow up and stop complaining/being upset about one's character inclusion, and then go right back around and do the exact same thing to another.

Also, I disagree on the quoted statement, but it's not worth opening that can of worms here.

What makes you disagree with it? Learning a new place style is a matter of study and practice, and that's something I think anyone can do. You don't have to be the master of a play style to learn it to some degree, nor do you have to enjoy it.

At the very least Geno would work as a final, hype raising reveal after we had Ridley and K. Rool. And in terms of other characters (maybe not going by RelaxAlex's claim of 7-8 because of blog posts) this seems to be the best chance the Chorus Kids will ever have in Smash, with them (or whatever RH rep) presumably being worked on to some level of development in Smash 4 if the enemy and emblem data are anything to go by.

Honestly, Geno no doubt is gonna be the final character to finish the ribbon on an amazing present. His history with Smash is VERY telling, a crescendo almost.

I’d be all for it, dude is awesome and his games are all awesome plus he has some cameos in Warriors games thanks to the Koei and Tecmo merger.

Also I want to think of a possible DLC character that will really piss people even the most stalwart defenders off.

So very soon the biggest mobile moba arena of valor is coming to switch, this is part of some sort of deal with chinese giant tencent, who own many things internet related in china. This deal may be part of a future plan to push the switch into china as an offical product, especially as iirc they have laid back some of the old no consoles allowed laws. Arena of Valor is also popular enough that it's rumoured tencent are cutting money from riot to funnel it back into their own game (As riot were asked to make a league of legends mobile port, but refused). Therefore, Arena of Valor could possibly be one of the most important games (In Nintendo's eyes) coming to the switch.

I think Minecraft Story Mode steve is creepy as sin too, but a lot of people's arguments here are "Minecraft is played by kids and i hate kids these 12 year olds are cringy!!!" like getting mad at kids for playing video games doesn't make you look pathetic.

My main concern is the guys who hate minecraft getting on my ass for playing smash just because steve is there, which is less a problem with steve as it is the guys who hate minecraft

You forgot Geno, but I wouldn't be surprised if this actually is what's left. But I have a slight feeling there might be more. They can't really just end it on those two, I have a feeling if that was the case, it'd affect the hype cycle of Ultimate a fair bit. Shulk ended up being not that bad of a reveal as some would make it out to be, in the case of Smash 4.

i don't get why everyone assumes that steve isnt getting a smash facelift?

Yeah... simont model emulates perfectly the way Simon walk... but is not 2 friggin frames.

Sakurai managed to make Pacman both classic and interesting.. and managed to make duck hunt dog interesting...

People hate smash players enough as it is, to the point where i don't actually play other fighting games solely because i dont want to get into a community and then tell them i play smash as well, having the most hated video game by edgy teenagers in smash will just amplify that tenfold.

Wouldn't it be really nice if people stopped hating him though? I mean realistically you can't win everyone over, but the less people who complain about your character the better, right?

I've learned to deal with all the Dark Pit hate over the years for instance but I'd still much rather prefer it if he wasn't used as everyone's go-to scapegoat.

Can someone explain what people's problem with Steve is? He seems like he would be a amazing unique charecter, and he would represent both Nintendo's relationship with Microsoft, and indie gaming. Plus, Minecraft HAS appeared on Nintendo consoles, so he not representing a franchise with out ever being on a console him self. I just don't understand why people are opposed to the idea

For me, it's less hating Steve, and more thinking Sakurai would prioritize Banjo & Kazooie over Steve and would be disappointed if he went in a different direction. I'd explain all the reasons why Steve would not be a good choice, but I've been criticized for being too harsh in the past and should stick to the positives, and so I'll explain why B&K as a point of comparison. Just change virtually everything to the opposite to know my feelings on Steve.

Spoiler: Giant Wall of Text

First, Banjo & Kazooie are Nintendo All-Stars not currently owned by Nintendo. Their game was the 10th best selling game on the N64, and both Banjo-Kazooie and its sequel had critical and financial acclaim. They would be a reflection of Nintendo history, made by a company that had some of the best selling games exclusive to the N64, not merely having been on it before. Their game is also the prime example of the collect-a-thon, a genre of platforming games that works well in a game that started out as a fighter for platforming characters. Many of the "new developments" in Mario Odyssey can be derived from Banjo-Kazooie.

The franchise has overwhelming fan support despite their series being "dead", so much so that old Rare employees started a kickstarter for the spiritual successor, Yooka Laylee, becoming the fastest one to reach a million dollars (regardless of what you think of the quality, this is about fan demand). As we've seen with this roster, especially with King K Rool, relevancy matter less than a character's popularity within the Smash community, and in 2015, when the roster was being formed, Banjo & Kazooie were on the top of almost every poll, sometimes the top third party choice, while Steve was barely a blip.

Banjo & Kazooie have a ready made moveset, being a two-in-one-fighter, their game is based on learning new and creative moves, from being capable of flight, egg projectiles, and Banjo can even use Kazooie to bash people on the head like in the games. Steve is a blocky guy with a sword (not dissing, just comparing the two). Banjo & Kazooie would benefit from being redone with old school design in new graphics, giving fans a brand new take on the character we haven't seen in a decade (which was negatively received given Microsoft's new take). However unique you think Steve is, Banjo & Kazooie have way more possibilities while remaining true to their games.

And this is not even going into the amazing music composed by Grant Kirkhope, the characters that could be bosses/assists, and the multitude of stages that would work well in Smash, as Minecraft similarly has examples of those.

It's a no-brainer to me, on every single level you can think of, and Sakurai prioritizing Steve over Banjo would be at the very least be controversial, whereas most would consider it an obvious (yet, very newsworthy) choice for Banjo & Kazooie, having been requested since Melee, if the legal matters weren't an issue. Minecraft is about the world, not the characters, and is better suited as a stage, and a Creeper assist. All of this is IMHO, so of course it's subjective, but you asked. I, and perhaps many, would not have a problem with Steve, if the two came together, or if Steve was DLC. But Microsoft would probably only have one rep in the base game, and on every front, Banjo & Kazooie make better sense.
