Out of curiosity, were there any Dragon Quest characters on the infamous polls?

I've tried to find them, but have a hard time finding it, despite Dragon Quest being a very popular series, but there could be a name there that matches Dragon Quest that I don't recognize. I'd prefer Erdrick (not knowing anything about the series).

Also, I've read the LeakyPandy posts. I hadn't followed them because, from what I've heard, they're mixed, so what exactly is their credibility? I'm also not a fan of the "We like to leak stuff, but only hints because no spoilers" variety of leaks. Either you think the info is important for people, or not. So I generally don't take them into consideration when speculating (Verg seems to be the only credible leaker left at this point).

You clearly aren't understanding me at all. Echoes don't count, so whether they correspond to music or not doesn't matter because from a marketing perspective, they are bonuses and not the main attraction, as shown by their numbering. As such, Chrom didn't NEED music to correspond to him as it was irrelevant to the theory, as Chrom was an echo. But that doesn't stop him from being able to get one.

The theory is only disproven if one of two things happen:

1. We get music from a franchise and THEN a unique newcomer from that franchise is revealed

Or

2. We get a unique newcomer, but the next music update doesn't relate to them.

Literally nothing else disproves it.

Chrom's timing along that remix is too close to not count and you're arguing the music theory is dead because Splatoon wasn't highlighted until after E3 when they showed 3 remixes at once which were Zelda, Street Fighter and Metroid


Also I've been thinking about that second SE character we're supposed tl get. The way I see it, there are 3 possibilities
1: We're getting a second SE character on the base roster
2: The second SE character was started on not too long ago and is DLC
3: The SE character is false info to catch leakers. After all, only one of Verge's sources was able to say anything about it but his other sources don't know.

Wow, a Yoshi's Crafted World stage does seem kinda likely now. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the second stage in smash history to be from a game not yet released at launch? Yoshi games must have the weirdest development cycles.

It would be.... if it was confirmed.

It probably has to do with Good Feel's development cycle as similar things happened to Kirby's Epic Yarn (that game was unlucky enough to not be made during a Smash dev cycle though)

i dont think so but its a iconic series and sakurai considered it to be one of the series that influenced him like castlevania

I still think Verg and 108 stages line up almost flawlessly.


If we can assume that these unconfirmed stages are happening, then:


Incineroar gets a stage, because Sun/Moon. If Odyssey and BotW get one, I can't imagine S/M not.

The 2nd SE rep gets one. What? Depends on WHO it is.

Yoshi's Crafted World. Replaces Wooly World. Crafted Yoshi confirms this in my mind.

Minecraft. If it's in Smash, it's getting a stage, I legit cannot see it as anything less than a stage.


And the final, unknown thing.

Personally, I'd LOVE Tetris as a stage, but eh.

Maybe just the music, but otherwise DQ characters have been in Nintendo games before.

Also, personally speaking, I find most DQ's music to be boring af. I'm not gonna lose sleep over not getting more than 2 songs this time.

As far as I remember, no.

However, I could see it being like Bayonetta, where the series' ties to Nintendo get it in. It's also got the factor of being iconic in Japan and moderately popular in the West, and is also the best-selling Japanese series not represented in Smash Bros. The series currently sits at over 75 million total sales and has a gross revenue of $5 billion (over $10 billion with inflation). For reference, that's a little less than Wii Sports, which has over 82.85 million sales, and a little over half of Minecraft's sales, which has over 144 million. That's incredible really.

Apparently it's also a massively popular manga series, with over 70 million units sold worldwide.

The series is even so big to have rumors about it in the real world. Supposedly Japan passed a law preventing Dragon Quest games from being released on a week day due to how many people would "call in sick."

The series is absolutely massive, and definitely deserves representation in Smash Bros. of some kind.

I don't really follow or like them for the same reasons you stated. Admittedly, I'm not too familiar with how credible/accurate they are. Everything I've read and heard says they have shoddy credibility so yeah I'm not trusting a thing they say.

Kirby stage (Marx is rumored to be a boss)
Rhythm Heaven stage

That's my current prediction for the remaining five stages now.

I would guess Slime simply because that character is so iconic, and Erdrick has failed to show up in all one of the Fortune Street games I've played so I can't imagine him. I've heard Slimes are actually very capable, much more than you'd expect. Though, they are Assist Trophy fodder too, but if we got any DQ Assist the only ones I can think of are Dragonlord, Heal Slime, or Goody Bag. [My lack of Dragon Quest experience is showing. Sorry if I sound dumb.]

I think DQ5's Dadtagonist or Eight would work well for DQ honestly myself.

Well that just sounds like a trailer that would hype me up to get Sora but then let me down by getting a one off DQ character... hmm probably a better way to do a DQ trailer. I recommend having Kirby meet up with a Slime and then the Hero turns up with 3 other smash 'anime' characters in a 'party', a cutesy trailer where they can announce a slime assist trophy and a DQ rep Hero.

Banjo-Kazooi stage (I feel if they contact Microsoft for Minecraft they'd get a character too)
Rhythm Heaven (Chorus Kids)

Golden Sun Stage (Isaac)
Mario RPG stage/Exor/Forest Maze (Geno)

Yeah its a shame because I'm very happy Isabelle got in. She's a great addition to the roster.
I think it might be because her reveal was very slow-paced and we actually didn't see a single new thing in any of her footage. There's nothing to really dig through or discuss about her trailers.

Usually the hype from a reveal carries me for a bit before time starts to drag again, but not this time I guess.

The thing is for about two weeks, we had a solid chunk of discussion due to the 8.8 Direct.

While it's certainly possible, and those with high hopes should prepare themselves for that outcome, I still find it weird it's been three business days with no correction. If it was made in error, I would assume they have the obligation to correct it to avoid misinformation from spreading. If it was accidentally leaked, they would probably avoid mentioning it. At least that's how I see it, I could be wrong about how it works. And it should be noted, we can still have high hopes while keeping our expectations low--the two aren't mutually exclusive.
