For those of you upset she's more unique than Dark Samus, and potentially characters like Shadow, it's because she wasn't an afterthought. I've always thought Isabelle was one of the first newcomers Sakurai would plan for (a sort of just missed the boat for 4). Echoes on the other hand are last minute development time bonuses.

Idk how this works with Ken though if Verg is right :/

if sakurai goes all the way with ken? then he would have different normals and they same specials that have different properties, hadoken would be weaker but his shoruken would be even stronger and they could also go the route of his tatsu having fire on it as well

I think Isabelle is kind of in a Wolf situation, where she borrows moves from other characters to complete a full moveset. Obviously, most of her moveset comes from Villager, but she also has a down smash that looks a lot like Inkling's down smash.

Someone else probably posted this somewhere, but Jon from GameXplain had some... oddly correct predictions in the GX prediction video - including Kirby's Epic Yarn for 3DS, Isabelle being a unique fighter (though he was wrong about what her moveset would be like), all of the FF ports, Luigi Mansion Co-op, and a few other things. He also got a lot wrong (he predicted Golden Sun getting a 3DS remake, Persona 4 Golden coming to the Switch, among other things).

I certainly don't think we should make a Mimique out of him, but given how they had a pre-E3 video about Ridley's chances in Smash that casually had a Daisy cameo, before both Daisy and Ridley were revealed... They certainly are good at coincidences?

This speaks as varying sources to me. The things he gets right are awfully specific.

I'm happy for Isabelle fans and Animal Crossing fans alike, at this point I only care about the most possible people being happy.

But we have the right to be unimpressed by this reveal. It was unimpressive to me on multiple fronts.

Regardless, Direct as a whole was maybe a 7.5/10. Didn't get anything I was hoping for, but Luigi's Mansion 3 and Katamari Reroll are pretty exciting (never got to play Katamari before). I expected little for Smash, but was still kind of let down. It just wasn't an impressive reveal, and Isabelle getting to be unique instead of just an Echo arguably takes up an unnecessary amount of development time and kind of makes me worry about the number of remaining newcomers. Granted, I have lost the right to complain with Ridley in the game, but with the somewhat questionable choice of Isabelle being a Luigi/Lucas/Wolf type, I worry for fans of the remaining super-popular characters.

As far as leaks go, Vergeben is still undefeated. He's right until he's wrong, he's not gospel but he's a helpful guideline. Loz18 is ousted as total garbage, Laura Kate Dale was spouting **** when she mentioned the direct was 'delayed for a good reason', countless leaks have fallen dead to unique Isabelle (Richter and Isabelle otp). This new, corroborated Dante 'leak?' I give it 33% chance (which is much higher than I'm usually willing to give), getting Isabelle as a solo reveal right is scary, but eh... we've seen scarier coincidences piled on in fake leaks before (Pokemon funkos, FF15 Pocket, etc), so I'm not really that shook.

All in all, I'm a little let down, but I don't have any negative feelings toward Isabelle as a character.

I love you guys, but that "Isabelle is a pacifist" John many were using was almost as bad as that old Megaman John of people thinking he would be a Samus clone or that Shulk was technically not a Nintendo character because dumb excuse.

How else?

Remove Ryu's moves that are unique to him (a couple of his normals, Forward Smash and the Final Smashes off the top of my head,) and switch them for Ken's unique move instead while giving his other moves special properties (multi hitting Tatsumaki, Flaming Shoryuken, angled Hadouken.)

Maybe even switch out Focus Attack for Heat Rush (his V-Trigger I in SFV.)

That Tom Nook bit at the end reminded me a lot of the Dark Pit tease at the end of Palutena’s trailer. And Chrom’s little bit at the end of Robin’s trailer to a lesser extent. I don’t know, I think it’s very possible he’ll be added as an echo.

Him being included in both Isabelle and Villager’s FS makes it a little iffy. But who knows? I just find the segue very odd. Like why would they throw that in?

He's a ResetEra mod right? Since they are a relatively high profile forum (regardless of their reputation; PLEASE let's not get into that again) perhaps the mods there were informed of specific details to squash rumors, or something like that. I've heard stories of companies informing mods on other forums on specific details for games for similar reasons, so wouldn't be the first time.
