Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Anyone remember Race to the Finish from Melee?

I could never get to the end of this **** lol.
I probably can.
I got skill.
longerer and more filler doesn't necessarily mean better
I mean, it is still a trophy with description. A lot of trophies is cool. More references and stuff.
Collecting trophies in Smash 4 was fun for me.

Can we all just agree that Smash4 did way too many random drop collectables?

Trophies? Sure, whatever.

But Custom Moves, Mii Costumes and Equipment with special perks?

It took me over a year to obtain every type of equipment with negative perks attached to them for completion sake. And Mii Hats were RIDICULOUSLY rare as well.

Speaking of Legendary Pokemon. Know what would be a unique boss fight. The three legendary Kanto birds. Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno. You fight them all at once.

Edit: Annnnnd Zapdos is in the background on the Prism Tower stage. Damn...

I will miss the Snake codec calls if they end up being truly *and forever* gone

Smash wouldn't feel the same to me without it's single player content. I got more interested in other Nintendo games than ever by reading up on trophies of so many different characters and items that weren't playable or usable in previous games.

Give me Adventure/Story Mode along with the usual Classic and All Star modes, and we're golden. I agree that multiplayer aspects are the most important part to the game, but the franchise is a celebration of Nintendo games, and nowadays, iconic video games in general. Single player modes brought me into the feel of it all, and things like trophies add something special to it, I wouldn't ever want them missing from a Smash game, even if I don't read their descriptions as often as I used to.

Smash is a multiplayer game first and foremost but I wouldn't want to see it lacking in single player content.

As long as the minigame to collect those trophies isn't god awful...
Coin Launcher was really fun.
Do you mean Trophy Rush? Just use custom Paultenas.
Also I remember this really hard challenge where I had to be Dr. Mario and get a lot of points.

Yeah that was a huge problem with smash 4 the. At least on 3ds smash run was fun.

On smash 4 Wii u it was a genuine chore and one of my peeves with that game

Remember the CDs and Stickers?

I'm probably the only one hoping Spirits and Adventure Mode are separate modes. The former being a story like SSE but that's just me.

Here's a question for y'all. If you couldn't pick any character that would bring a new stage with them (for example, Isaac, who would definitely bring a Golden Sun stage, or even someone like Skull Kid, who might bring a stage based on Termina), who would your most wanted newcomer be then?

Why do people think that Nintendo would risk their flagship holiday title by giving the fans something that's any less than perfect? They're betting the farm on this (and Pokemon) to give them that 20,000,000 sale milestone. Its gonna be great.
Don't forget New Super Mario Bros Deluxe (yay)

I agree. Brawl and Melee nailed it in terms of singleplayer wise.
Classic Mode and All-Star mode were more dull in Brawl than Melee. Melee's adventure mode was great.

Brawl's Subspace was something I truly loved though.

I know most people want to see Mega Rayquaza or Ultra Necrozma as a Pokémon boss, but I'd honestly prefer if we got Primal Groudon or Arceus.
Like you know how dope it would be to fight in the Hall of Origin?

If I don’t see Ness traveling the Mushroom Kingdom,

Mega Man exploring an ancient Hyrule temple,

Fox battling some Kremlings in the jungle,

Kirby fighting Eggman’s robots and machines,

or Wario riding his way through Dreamland in this game, I’LL LOSE IT.

I legit think it's a mistake to view Smash as a single player game. That's honestly like calling Mario Party or Splatoon a single player game.
I agree with your overall point, and that all of those games are much better as, and should focus primarily on multiplayer, but I'd be remiss if I didn't bring up that all three of Splatoon's single player campaigns are both ridiculously fun (imo) and extremely well crafted, if a bit short for a full price AAA game (which is partially why I agree with the multiplayer point,) and shouldn't really be compared to Mario Party's single player experience, imo.

I think the final newcomer selection is going to be split into 3 categories in regards to speculation:

Newcomers who don't need a stage.

New franchises that would need a stage.

3rd Party character that may or may not need one.

Characters like Skull Kid, Bandanna Dee, Incineroar don't 'need' a stage if Ridley or K.Rool didn't get one.

Someone like Isaac or Joe would need a stage.

Geno could go either way, depending on how he's handled.

I don't know... I expect this to be the last Smash game anyways...
Why would that be? I doubt Nintendo will ever stop making Super Smash Bros, whether Sakurai is a part of it or not. It'd be like thinking Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the last Mario Kart game.

I can see this being Sakurai's last Smash game and then at most if he gets involved with any future installments he'll simply be a producer.

After this I feel he should go back to doing smaller projects like new Kirby or Kid Icarus games but not before taking a loooonnnnng vacation.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what that is Mario Oddesy DLC?

(Ignorance can suffocate internal screams if you let it)
It would be a port of New Super Mario Bros. U and Super Luigi U, combined. There's some kind of rumor for it that got started by GameXplain.

Not gonna lie, I actually liked Brawl's Trophy Minigame.

It was kinda relaxing.
Completely agreed. Coin Launcher is easily my favorite trophy mini game in the Smash series.

Is it bad if I want it to return in Ultimate?

This I totally agree with.

There's so many of them that it just feels overwhelming and ultimately kinda pointless.

I felt a similar way about Brawl's Stickers, just to a lesser extent. Never really understood the point of them outside of the SSE, and even there I didn't feel like they added very much to the mode.

Well I wasn’t aware of all those points tbh so thank you for the info and all those details! I personally wouldn’t mind her at all, I do think we need more Zelda reps and pirates as well. I guess she’s not that unlikely after all, I think maybe she has equal chances to Hilda? I mean Hilda isn’t as popular but does work as an echo. Impa..idk I mean she doesn’t work perfectly as a Shiek echo.

Btw would Tetra be a unique newcomer? Or echo ?
I'd most likely see her being a unique newcomer, or a semi-clone with some unique moves. Maybe something along the lines of Luigi, y'know?

I guess a Toon Link echo is a bit possible, but it'd feel like a major loss on something more unique. Tetra is my most wanted newcomer and I absolutely think she could bring something new and fun to the table.

It's a New Super Marios Bros U port and probably will be announced in the direct. It was leaked by creditable leakers.
