I honestly feel the whole "an AT will get upgraded" is strawgrasping. Of course, they should support him being playable, but thinking he's likely isn't the same thing as thinking things can happen. The AT DLC Upgrade theory is fair to think of as a possibility. We can't say it's impossible. But likely? That's just overrating it a lot. But to be honest, I can't think of a good reason why it's all that unlikely. Yes, for base roster, saying Waluigi still could become playable is silly. He's got a hard and set role. That's what it is. Does it suck? Sure! Is it worth going nuts or making crazy theories about? Nah. And I don't consider AT DLC Upgrade a crazy theory at all. There's the thought that Sakurai already has the character full envision and wouldn't change them this game, but that's the only argument against it, and while it's legit(Sakurai is stubborn, after all), it doesn't feel like a very good one overall. It is not useful to shut down the theory. It's a fair reason to think the theory isn't that likely, though.

No, not at all.
However, something to keep in mind is that Sakurai doesn't consider a character being an AT, boss, or a trophy as anything lesser than being on the roster. They're still being recognized by the series and Nintendo proper.
So I do honestly think that people finding it plausible is just setting themselves up for disappointment. Like I honestly think it's not going to happen in this game, especially after all the effort that they're spending on making some Assist Trophies more active in that regard.
Sakurai's decisions may have hit some people's nerves and it may sting to see a character you want relegated to that, but at least they're there.

Ok, real talk, people who don't think Goku can/should be in Smash aren't the bad guys here either.

It's not like Smashboards is super antagonistic to people's wants in general. Even most out there third party video game characters have gotten some serious discussion. It's only so called 4th parties met with hostility, but even then I'd say people here are generous if anything. If you go onto forums for Jump Force and try pushing Mickey Mouse I can guarantee you'll get a worse reception. Same if you go to Mortal Kombat forums and push MLP.

People who don't think non-video game characters can or should show up in what is still and has always been a crossover of only characters originating in video games aren't being mean spirited or overly negative. We are basing our speculations on creator intent, game theming, and precedent. If we don't base our speculation on anything, we might as well root for any arbitrary character from any arbitrary medium. Why not have John Cena in, if there are no rules and someone out there would enjoy it?

I'm tired of realistic people being treated like we're just mean for being realistic. And I'm tired of people who like Smash Bros having a theme being villanized for wanting it to keep it's theme.

You do realize the irony in this post being literally a page before someone was doing exactly what you said nobody does here right? (looking at you IGuessItsOver). I was also called selfish for a pretty reasonable opinion on echo fighters earlier. People are reactionary and disrespectful to people with out of the box character ideas constantly.

Yeah, that's a better way to put it. Him being stubborn isn't it. It's more he gave each a role but did it with love and care. He's not trying to bring down anybody's love for the character.

Sorry, I wasn't in response to your points about saying "meme character" as much as it was other posts I saw here and have seen on Reddit earlier today. I've seen a lot people confuse realism and wanting Smash to have a theme with being negative.

You're right though, we shouldn't call characters meme characters. I'm a bit guilty of this since I didn't realize Goku supporters weren't trolling until recently (even as a DBZ fan myself).

I hope she gets in over him and Viridi. She has more importance due to starring in the original game. Viridi is already a stage hazard and Hades I think should be an recurring antagonist in the supposed story mode for Spirits which fits him perfectly due to his nature.

Sakurai didn't swap Chrom for Robin, Robin was always planned and was even seen in the snippet of the Smash 4 project plan that Sakurai shared. Sakurai isn't replacing a character with a completely different one midway into development.

They can't. It's still owned by the same companies and have the same licensing issues. They also are not popular enough to give a legit reason for Sakurai to care. It's Goku or nothing in cases like these.

I have to be..Medusa is the villain of the series, has history with Pit & Palutena, and is one of the few female big bads..seeing her usurped by yet another male big bad that came out of nowhere annoys me.
I love him as a character, but his implementation annoys me..I'd have preferred Medusa take back the role at the end..but at least she did the spoiler punch..

That and she'd be easier to get into the game as an Echo to Palutena whereas the other two would require a unique moveset of their own (Being the Goddess of Nature she'd probably have plant based attacks). Funny people thinks Viridi can be an Echo of Palutena despite ignoring she doesn't have the structure and is much shorter. That one thread with Viridi vs. Medusa for being an Echo shouldn't even be an debate to begin with.
