I think so too. I think the transformations would be too slow to be used as a moveset. It'd be different if each transformation had its own moveset, but if it were just for one attack it'd take too long to transform into the animal and then transform again

Also it would take a lot of development resources to make renders for her transformations

I agree. I think there's enough moves in Pirate's Curse to work as a potential moveset for her. And personally, I liked the moves from Pirate's Curse a lot more than the transformations, but that doesn't really mean much

Actually according to Sakurai, even taking out the six Melee clones wouldn't amount to one unique newcomer.



So even working under the assumption that one Echo=one Melee clone, we still wouldn't get a unique newcomer out of cutting all of them.

It seems I also got DDD confused with Wario. Could swear I had read DDD was planned for Melee.

At the same time, think about Chrom. He was cut from Smash 4 because he wouldn't be as unique as Robin, a reason that was invalidated by Lucina being a separate character instead of a Marth costume, so they might as well have made him playable.

No, it was also because he felt like too similar to Ike and Marth. He echo'ing Roy also means he's a cross between Ike and Marth playset-wise. He even has a remake of Ike's Aether. It's probably just the case that the only way to make him feel right was to make him play how Sakurai envisioned him... as a cross between Marth and Ike.

This is why Lucina got in. She had someone to echo off of. Roy was DLC, so there was no way to make Chrom an echo at the time, unless it was along Roy. But considering how badly FE getting two DLC characters went, one can imagine the backlash if it got 3, which is still more than any other series got for a playable option. Lucina was decided on last minute, and only because she posed as Marth(which she wouldn't have been an alt costume in the first place if it weren't for that). Dark Pit and Dr. Mario also had the privilege of being costumes first, which is why they were given their own slots when it was time to make some characters. Dr. Mario was a regular clone, taking more work. Lucina and Dark Pit were echoes at that point(the term echo didn't exist yet, of course, so they were still called a clone by Sakurai. But it's not inaccurate either way, as Echoes are clones as is). If I didn't go over it, the fact Alph is still a costume could be because they couldn't get the Rock Pikmin working(maybe having a new Pikmin was important, but seeing as the character is officially titled "Pikmin & Olimar", that isn't farfetched at all. Could be why he's a costume still, due to a lack of enough new Pikmin to justify another moveset. Maybe Louie will be an Echo, which would suck for Alph, but eh).. That or maybe he had no ideas of how to tweak him up. Maybe him getting a new ship for his Final Smash(which should be the case at least in this case, but I think Olimar's was shown off even with Alph as an alt, so...).

Is it that unrealistic to think that we might end up with more than six echoes by launch? If we do then they could have been someone unique rather than more pallets swaps by this logic. If not then I’ll admit I was wrong.

You do realize that having the gratitude of playing these characters, even if it's similar to another, makes people happy? Even if they're disappointed that they're not unique, they can at least play them. Some people who are so ignorant that they won't like a game because a character wasn't the way they wanted is pretty selfish, let alone willing to axe seven others for the sake of one other random character when DLC is guaranteed.

Never been called selfish for wanting something different from a video game than other people. That’s a new one. You might want to reevaluate what makes someone selfish, just sayin.

It's not that surprising. There's a pretty vocal fanbase for it. And realistically, he's the only anime/manga character that would first get in if one was ever allowed. He's a major cultural icon(and gaming too, being one of the most important for licensed games. There's actually not many who can apply to that otherwise; E.T. due to the giant video game crash in the 1900's, TMNT due to their arcade presence, James Bond due to how notable 007 is, Mickey Mouse for obvious reasons, and that's kind of it. Popeye is a separate situation, as he inspired the creation of Mario, but isn't like the others who contributed heavily to gaming history on their own merits).

Not that I think Goku or other non-game characters(that are 3rd party) have a chance, but yeah.

I honestly feel the whole "an AT will get upgraded" is strawgrasping. Of course, they should support him being playable, but thinking he's likely isn't the same thing as thinking things can happen. The AT DLC Upgrade theory is fair to think of as a possibility. We can't say it's impossible. But likely? That's just overrating it a lot. But to be honest, I can't think of a good reason why it's all that unlikely. Yes, for base roster, saying Waluigi still could become playable is silly. He's got a hard and set role. That's what it is. Does it suck? Sure! Is it worth going nuts or making crazy theories about? Nah. And I don't consider AT DLC Upgrade a crazy theory at all. There's the thought that Sakurai already has the character full envision and wouldn't change them this game, but that's the only argument against it, and while it's legit(Sakurai is stubborn, after all), it doesn't feel like a very good one overall. It is not useful to shut down the theory. It's a fair reason to think the theory isn't that likely, though.

X being the stand-in for whatever the object in question is, even if it's in multiples.
Whatever thresh-hold for what one would "too much cutting" is, like many things, up to opinion.
