Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

I'm not saying the Karate Joe leak is real, because it most likely isn't, but you cannot call it 'debunked' yet for one simple reason.

"What 'debunks' it?"

The use of an old OS? That's not unheard of in Japan.

The off camera SS? Maybe.

Debunking a leak means you have proof that it's fake due to a glaring issue in it.

The fact that the person has ridiculously extensive knowledge of the Japan-exclusive GBA title makes me believe that, if this is fake, the person who made this was Japanese. The fact that they included the game's sticker sheet, which I doubt people who are even hardcore fans of RH know existed, is a really nice touch.

That, and they went out of their way to learn about what kind of file hosting website that the Smash site uses, so again, props to them for doing extensive research. This is THE best looking fake yet.

That series icon definitely was, if anything. There is no way an icon is gonna look THAT terribly designed. Like what is it even supposed to represent?
It’s a music note, it works well enough representing a rhythm game, although I have to admit it still looks messy compared to other series icons

It'd make this post pretty funny in hindsight.
There was a problem fetching the tweet
He's so confident in this being fake despite the fact that it lacks a real "smoking gun" that most fake leaks have. It'd be pretty awkward if this was real.

That being said, I still don't understand what the icon is supposed to be at all.

If it was just the cloud, I think it would've been fine.

The music note looks weirdly plastered in there.

But I'm no graphic designer so what do I know.

Can we talk about F-zero and Earthbound ? Because with all those Vilains vs Heroes theme going on lately, I think either Black Shadow or Deathborn would be awesome for F-Zero and Claus or Giygas for Earthbound. Of course the Blackknight for Fire Emblem is a get go too.

So we just mentioned the music and how there's a pretty sad selection of FF music. I thought people might enjoy this topic; what should the FF music selection be if they weren't so picky over it? I'll post a list (with links!); let me know if you guys have any different feelings:

Final Fantasy 1 Medley
Final Fantasy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUAsbFYnFIo

Take stuff from that; FF1 needs included but has a limited selection of music so it's best suited for a medley

Medley de Chocobo
Final Fantasy series

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWOgOLvM7Yo

It's basically the same song in different styles, could make something interesting and lighthearted out of a pretty iconic series staple. Smash loves medleys so I figured I better include two.

Main Theme
Final Fantasy VII

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zib5Il3bc20

J - E - N - O - V - A
Final Fantasy VII

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--ijjuvQMW8

One Winged Angel
Final Fantasy VII

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDD-iYkHBhc

Since we're representing FFVII directly, we should include some of the more memorable tracks from it, no? I'm also obviously assuming we keep the two we do have so that would be 5 tracks from FFVII in total which appropriately is more than any other single FF is getting.

Boss Battle
Final Fantasy IV

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LT803dOa_TY

The Dreadful Fight
Final Fantasy IV

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKnd8qyX5wk

I think these two tracks are by far the most memorable from one of the most popular FFs on a Nintendo console.

Clash on the Big Bridge
Final Fantasy V

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0JnXdfoYpY

FFV only gets one because it's a lower key FF, but this is probably the single most popular piece of music in the franchise. Easy inclusion.

Terra's Theme
Final Fantasy VI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjgwVSDAmP4

The Decisive Battle
Final Fantasy VI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMd6V1IOJ5k

Searching for Friends
Final Fantasy VI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96wnpkcZIYw

Dancing Mad (Final Tier)
Final Fantasy VI

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNq-8IBerXQ

I limited myself to four FFVI tracks even though honestly you could take like 15 from the game and it would work out because it's the best OST in the main series by far and also the most popular FF for a Nintendo console. I think these four largely speak to what the game was and are all independently outstanding pieces. While we're at it, Terra as a Cloud echo? She can go into esper form when Limit is full; it works...

Rebel Army
Final Fantasy II

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5it_NVQkJk

We needed something else NES, and this is probably the most memorable piece from FFII. It also fills the hole in my heart from not including Edgar and Sabin's theme from FFVI.

Man with a Machine Gun
Final Fantasy VIII

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0WdQDPRwb4

I don't want to include much from later FFs since both they're really non-Nintendo and because they stop really being the same series after FFX anyway. I actually am only putting one in, probably the best piece of music from the back half of the FF series.

Chrono Trigger
Chrono Trigger

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYFiolJj79I

Frog's Theme
Chrono Trigger

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VXzhZwfCZs

This game might as well be a Final Fantasy (Square SNES ATB based RPG), and it also had a god tier OST. I think these two are overall the two most memorable tracks from that game.

That Person's Name Is
Bravely Default

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5jHVehUi6A

I wasn't including newer FFs proper, but it would be unacceptable not to include the best track from what is both a Nintendo based game and the game that was the beginning of Square making games like Final Fantasy again.

I did feel kinda bad not including FFIII at all (it's just fairly obscure), and I could see a good argument for something at least from FFIX and FFX and that maybe I was just too SNES heavy in general (it's just hard to argue with how good all of that stuff is and it's all on a Nintendo platform). Either way what I have plus the two we started with would put us at 19 which I think is about the correct number?
Music from FF?
All of it. Trying to pick and choose would be nearly impossible.

They should just put in the fanmade "Great Final Fantasy Medley", its amazing. Search it up on Youtube. If you're a fan, it'll hit home pretty hard.

it will probaly look better over a background thats not white
Yeah it looks weird because of the way it uses negative space, idk why the music note wouldn’t be inside the cloud instead, no other emblem does this I think.

Okay, I now see the music note, and it still looks absolutely atrocious. It'd look even more messy when you're playing a match. It'd look like some weird shapes without having an outline around the entire thing to make it look like there's an actual music note there.

As much as I have advocated for Black Shadow the whole "Heroes Vs Villain" theme isn't really a thing I can get behind existing until we see what "Spirits" is

Yeah, whether it's fake or not, I think we can all agree the emblem is horribly designed.

Well for F-Zero villains wise, my picks would be Pico, Zoda, Black Shadow and Deathborn.

I hate if this makes me appear like a sellout, but since Golisopod is relevant because of today's leak I thought I'd share this thing I drew yesterday.

It was only literally last week which made me realize how awesome Golisopod (and Guzma) would be as a fighter

Are the chances of the Karate Joe leak being real lowered due to the RH icon being used in a much less believable "leak" (the one with golisopod)? I personally think that the golisopod leak was someone latching on to the newest semi-believable leak for their 5-minutes of fame.

Yeah the Golisopod hoax has a couple things wrong.

Notably the Golisopod render is just ripped from Citra and the fighter order is wrong.
