Maybe because
1. One Piece was written about a decade later.
2. One Piece's anime got made, y'know, around the same time later.
3. One Piece didn't get a dub until 4Kids thought it was somehow kid-friendly enough. This was the time where the internet or pirating Japanese manga where nobody in America knew how to read Japanese barely existed. Dubs were the only way to know how an anime existed outside of bootlegs in thrift stores.
4. One Piece's western image is probably tainted because anime at the time was still made for the whole "it's for kids!" gimmick.
5. Dragon Ball rules Adult Swim's Toonami block because Dragon Ball had much more Western success, but in Japan, where it actually matters, it's way more towering over any miniscule Western support Dragon Ball could have ever obtained and still makes it globally superior.

Dragon Ball was already massive in Latin America and Europe before it came to America. One Piece never really caught on in those territories either, for whatever reason.

For anyone looking to get an idea of what Ryu Hayabusa could do, here's a bunch of his hand to hand stuff in DOA5. Though obviously, he'd use his sword from the Ninja Gaiden games and some of his Ninpo and Shuriken/Kunai too.

I thinking the Slide Kick, that Triple Kick, Sweep Kick, Dive Kick and Elbow would work. That throw where he stomps on you would work for a Down Throw. And again, Izuna Drop's gotta be the Up Throw, make it a kill move too. Maybe have it do more damage if you pull off the 360 motion before the end of the attack.

EDIT: Ryu also has a launcher kick that's similar to Nina William's Geyser Kick from Tekken. I think that'd make for a good Up-Smash.

Actually 4kids never intended to own 4kids dubbing rights, it was included in a package deal like how Disney never intended to buy Power Rangers

On another note I do want to see Ryu Hayabusa in the game. Ninja Gaiden black is one of my favourite games of all time and he would be a really cool newcomer. I love a good ninja type fighter and Ryu would be so cool.

I have seen the worldwide Dragon ball merchandising sales and I very much doubt it.

Everyone knows Goku and grew up with the show. I don't know many kids these days talking about Luffy.

Dragon Ball was one of the first shonen anime that got introduced to the west in the 90's which turned a lot of people's heads towards anime.

One Piece had a rough start because of a certain company that has a certain reputation when it comes to localizing. Which give a lot of people the wrong impression of the actual show. You might even say One Piece was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Perhaps the art style of one piece also might explain why it's more appreciated and known in Japan than in western culture. But eh

How would you all feel if we got a fourth taunt button? As in, one the two sideways buttons has a new taunt. What new taunts would you like to see added?

I'm actually surprised we didn't get one in ultimate. I definitely would've liked to see Mario's previous neutral taunt again.

People not seeing how a character could make it does not make them idiots. I get you're really personally attached to the character but most people think it's a longshot Agumon would make it in the game. It is expected that people will kinda brush off the idea, and you should expect that because you're supporting a longshot character in most people's eyes.

Here’s an interesting game/ something to ponder while we wait for a direct announcement. Consider this “what if” scenario:

Smash 4 DLC:

E3 Direct:

8.8 Direct:

Would Smash 4 still be freakin’ huge, and Ultimate feel a little too soon and less “Ultimate”? Would having the DLC have been more reflective of the ballot and characters like Corrin and Cloud being new additions for Ultimate feel more fitting or less exciting?

And who the heck would the most hype inducing newcomer for the upcoming Direct have to be to follow K. Rool?

People probably would have hated Corrin more, despite the moveset. Since more people would have been disappointed by the character when they bought Fates. That's the gist that I got of people who played that game. Also Daisy over Ryu would be kind of lame. But everything else is cool enough I guess.

Though what about Snake and Wolf?

I feel like changing the topic away from non game characters in Smash:

What Kirby newcomers would you all like to see? I think Kirby is somewhat underrepresented, so there are a few others I'd like to see make it in.

1. Bandana Waddle Dee is the one everyone is hoping for, and I do like them quite a bit. They're cute and they'd use a spear.
2. ...however we haven't had a proper "evil" Kirby villain yet. I'm hoping that Dark Matter can make it in someday since a lot of Kirby games since KDL2, KDL3, and Kirby 64 keep bringing Dark Matter back. They can use their "Dark Matter Blade" form from KDL2 to better visualize them as a fighter.
3. Gooey isn't especially popular but since they're the ONLY other Kirby character that can use Copy Abilities, he can fulfill an interesting niche by being the one other character in Smash that can do so, either with their own moveset or as a half clone (he doesn't have any limbs so being an echo wouldn't work). Gooey is also described as Kirby's best friend, so it'd be nice to see him again because of that.
4. I'd like to see Adeleine as well. Having Kirby, Dedede, and theoretically Bandana Waddle Dee together in the same game would make it so that the only Kirby 64 character missing would be her, and she can be cool as a fighting artist.

Oh, if I had full control of Smash, this is what Kirby would look like.

Characters (8): Kirby, Shadow Kirby (e) Meta Knight, Galacta Knight (e), King Dedede, Bandana Dee, Marx, Susie Haltmann (Echo of Bowser Jr).

ATs (8): Knuckle Joe, Nightmare, Kawakowski, Bugsy, Daroach, Adeleine, Dark Matter, Dyna Blade.

Stages: All old ones + Sectonia's Throne Room, Dream Palace, Spring Breeze, Access Arc, and Mirror World.

As someone who's only played that Flood mode of Halo 4 for like 10 minutes at a friend Master Chief would be dope as hell. Especially as it means Samus gets a new friend. Calling it now, if Master Chief makes it in, he'll be the new Little Mac and Snake, as in, shipped constantly

Chief's one and only is a genocidal ai so idk how people can ship chief with anyone. I don't even understand shipping though and I'm not going to pretend I do.
