Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Whoa, missed out on the Pokefloat discussion here!

I'll admit that the fake was nicely done minus a few spots that set red flags for it being fake. The Skull Kid and BD were well done on the photo so I give props for the person for how they made that. Almost as good tricking us like Omni did with the Rayman leak back then lmao

What?!

But on Twitter, I saw peoples wanting Goku...I guess I have a lot of studying to do...
The picture they tweeted yesterday contained a silhouette of Broly.

The first time they did it they had a challenger approaching screen with Goku's silhouette.

I believe it was during the ballot they tweeted that one.

Man, I remember that Rayman leak in Smash 4. It was actually my first leak I couldn't debunk...

Debunking is part of my hobby.

I woke up this morning, logged on to Smashboards, and immediately noticed this thread's new title. Then I was like, "Oh crap, what happened!? Was the new character already leaked!?"

And then I see that people are talking about a new FF mobile game.

False alarm...for now. (The thread title change might be a little premature though).

It's due to come out on Monday morning. (Sunday if you're in the US). As said above, due to the paper printing process, things leak very easily through magazines.
Not quite. Famitsu comes out every Thursday, we get it Wednesday due to time zones. Leaks typically come out on Tuesdays.

But yeah.

I'm keeping my expectations low, but I wouldn't count out the possibility of two unique newcomers from this Direct.

We have 3 months to go until the game launches, and the chance of a Direct in October is pretty damn low unless that's when the Smash Direct is. They 'have' to start throwing out newcomers, since it seems like we're only going to be getting them via Direct this time, and this is most likely our only general Direct until November/December.
The saddest part of this in hindsight is if Famitsu DOES end up leaking this.

Imagine getting potentially 2 newcomers and x amount of echoes revealed....

Or hell, imagine this being basically the 'Vergeben' direct with Incineroar and Isabelle leaked via Famitsu. No one would believe it.

I don't know how people take to being referred to by their avatars. I like being called "Yoshi," but that's because it's ME :yoshi:
Well, I certainly didn't mind being called Mr.Dragon the other day.

No one ever calls me "mister". From here on out, I demand everyone else gives me the same level of respect.

Not so many people have a Ice Climber avatar so I guess it’s okay! I am just happy that two of my favourite characters :ulticeclimbers::ultpichu: are back (I am not really good with Pichu/Pikachu but I love Pichu in the Pokémon franchise). :ultsheik:

Speaking of Verge, this next newcomer could either make it or break it for him. I'm still being cautious with his newer claims, especially since he missed four characters from the previous Direct. If we get someone who he didn't predict, I'm gonna have to question the validity of his material.

Hey, Celebi-kun! I think I'm your fan, I have to admit...

But, anyways, shouldn't the leaks come by now? I mean, so far we have seen that Yoshi and FFXV, and Megaman 11 leaks.

I mean, no, not really?

Gematsu lacked Rosalina, Robin, Duck Hunt, Dark Pit, Lucina and most people still take it as legit.

If his supposed sources only knew of a handful of characters, there's not much else to it.

If you don't mind my asking, do you think the appearance by Masuda/whatever was planned to be shown on Pokénchi this weekend will be effected by the Direct being delayed?

I'm not expecting anything to have drastically changed, but things all seem up in the air right now.

Are FFXV and Mega Man really leaks when Square announced the port and the MM demo was announced back in August? Unless there's other stuff I've missed.

FFXV was first leaked on PS4 network shop without notice, and I believe it was supposed to be for the direct.

Mega Man 11 leak is that one that was also supposed to be in the direct, too.

it would be a serious bummer to get stuff spoiled from a magazine, it would definitely be real so thered be no debate if it is a spoiler or not and then the actual reveal trailer would lose so much of its punch...

i'm hopeful famitsu just cuts any smash article it has planned or something.

To expand upon my point further.

Leakers rarely ever know the entire roster.

Brawl is a shining example of this, where there were like, 3 people who all had a part of the roster, and when put together, it made the whole. They weren't fake because they didn't know the whole thing, they just knew parts of it.

**** like the ESRB leak where we get the entire thing at once is very rare and is NOT the norm.

Hell, for all we know, Vergeben+Loz18+Mimique may be this game's trifecta leaks that when put together, give us the whole picture.

The difference between Verge and Gematsu is that one correctly predicted about 9 characters almost back-to-back.

After the September Direct, we're probably not going to get another character reveal until October, which is a solid two months before release. That ain't much time. In order for Verge and these other leakers to be correct, they'd essentially have to get every newcomer and Echo correct, leaving very little room for error.

It goes from, "None of those characters have been debunked yet, so the leakers could still be right," to, "We only have a few weeks until release, and we're still missing a few of those characters. Are they playable at all?"

Well for starters, we're missing anywhere from 1-2 newcomers from this Direct to begin with, so I wouldn't be too quick to judge.

And both Ken and Isabelle are echo fighters, so they can just be dropped in whenever.

I'd say give this Direct a chance before we jump to conclusions. A Pokemon newcomer 'seems' likely to be here, though I can't say that with certainty, it just seems like a good time to reveal it to promote Let's Go.

The sad thing about that is whatever the Pokemon newcomer is, it probably won't be possible to get one in Let's Go because they're only using the original 150. Not unless the newcomer is an alolan form.

Which is why I said this Direct would make it or break it. I'm not dismissing Verge, as predicting Ridley and Simon was no small feat. However, Simon was part of his info from April. Nothing he's predicted after that has came true yet, and I'm a little surprised by how much he missed in the last Direct.

Definitely not saying people should ignore what he says, but I also think it's equally risky to treat what he says as gospel and fully expect every newcomer he mentioned to get in.

There were also only two Gematsu leaks. Verge has had, what, seven? Loz was strong through K. Rool's presentation, but his information seems to have completely fallen apart by then.

Just because somebody gives out some correct information doesn't mean that everything they say from then on is accurate.

Isn't Mew in Let's Go as well? That would be 151 Pokemon.

More on point, it's still a Pokemon so the connection is still there. Maybe they could show Let's Go and a Pokemon character in Smash without directly saying anything beyond having the two games in one direct.

I've been hiding out in the Isaac thread (which has been completely overwhelmed and is nearly impossible to keep up with), and been busy with World of Warcraft again.

I'm still really nervous about who's coming, but I don't think either Loz or Virbleburble have accurate info at this point. Their behaviour has been very suspect, and they've missed a lot of stuff. I think they're just guessing.

Yeah, you're right. It's the original 151.

However, I believe they confirmed that you can only tranfer Kanto pokemon from Go to Let's Go. Because this game is coming out so soon, and because it's a cheap cash grab before the real new Pokemon games there's so many pokemon models up upgrade and animate, they might not have had enough time to add all 800+ monsters.

Edit: Ah, when you said connection, I figured you meant literal connectivity through Pokemon games.

Yeah, I could see them linking those two bits of news together. I'll admit I was mostly just jumping at the chance to criticize Let's Go.

Though in regards to Loz, the only thing he adds to this is Skull Kid, which, I could see either way in regards to the next Direct.

Speaking of leaks... I've searched, and I think I may have came up with an analysis about the videogames leaks.

Videogame leaks are very rare to happen, because most information are in networks and emails, which are inaccessible by hackers. Mostly, it happens due to the product of social engineering. For example... Someone spilled the bean drunkly, a programmer updating his resume on the development to reflect the new games he or she developed like that one that happened with Watch Dogs 2, a missent email, or a open conversation. A disgruntled employee might also leak the game, and the press doesn't always report on them, as it can hurt the producer.

Videogames leaks seems to be taken very seriously. If a leak happens, they can be seriously disruptive to market and business. When that happens, such leaks may be investigated within a company, and employee found to have leaked a thing whenever intentional or not may be terminated. If the leaker was due to an outside intruder, like a hacker, or like that ESRB leak, the company will increase the security level, like what happened with the DLC leak for Roy and Ryu. And, it can go even further: if the identity of the hacker is ascertained, then he or she might be prosecuted and may go to jail or something like that, like what happened with an infamous hacker who managed to leak Gears of War through getting that file data and pirating it to Internet.

Game developers, while they do get slightly angry about them, aren't this very angry and don't mind them. In fact, they actually hope for the real leaks to happen, because when such leaks appears, the game gains a lot of attention. They get peoples wondering: What's that? Is that a leak? Looks like a great leak, when is that coming out? Will that be revealed? Conspirators then create fan-art, but also make fan-theories about the leak being real, and post them online, which allows the game itself to get hype and momentum, because it can mean getting a lot of pre orders.

Hype is always good for the game. It gets peoples interested and preordering, sending in ideas and arts, things like that and if the game allows for it, suggestions and DLC content suggestions. Really, it's always great if a leak happens in a way or two. Really, they're not worried, and actually don't mind it.

We just have to wait and see, frankly.

Thus far, none of our current 'leakers' have predicted any Echo fighters, though Verg is confident in the presence of Isabelle and Ken, and his only other two contributions are Incineroar and most likely Geno.

I believe Isabelle to be a lock regardless of Verg, and Ken seems almost obligatory with both the huge increase of songs for Street Fighter and Richter's presence, but that's just me.

Agreed, I can see Skull Kid either way. He's currently one of the most popular predictions due to seeing the Moon as an AT, but no Skull Kid AT and Skull Kid not being a part of the Moon AT. So it's a safe guess for someone without any information who is trying to maintain a reputation.

Similarly, "we're getting a Pokemon" is something that a lot of people believe. It's an ultimate safe guess. And saying "it's not one of these three" isn't that much of a risk, considering that there are some 800 others to choose from. Odds are pretty good that if we're getting a Pokemon, any three randomly chosen Pokemon would not be playable.

They've both waffled on info, acted coy, outright trolled, etcetera. That's not typical behaviour for leakers (or the way either of them behaved when they gave their accurate info).

Their guesses may be accurate, but they're just that. Guesses.

Debunked a very good Pokefloats leak
Eh, they forgot to give Bandana Dee a shadow. 7/10

And what happened to the title?
Some stuff related to the Direct leaked through other means. The Mega Man demo is out, and FFXV Mobile is coming to Switch. A couple other things, maybe? Nothing on Smash, though.
