I'd be down for that. There's a bunch of characters that my reaction would range between: "Ok" to "sweet!'. Only Banjo-Kazooie would I just not like. With all the popularity that TWEWY and No More Heroes experienced, I thought someone from those games had a good chance. If Square only has 1 more rep though, it's probably Geno, but I would like to see any number of other Square characters before him. Let him be an AT, his day can come another day if it means Neku, Travis, Crono, or Sora have a chance.

I wouldn't count Mario music being shown off as deconfirming Geno, since although he is a Mario character, he's also 3rd Party.

If Geno got in, him and any music from Super Mario RPG could very well be placed in their own 'Super Mario RPG' series to differentiate them from normal Nintendo-owned Super Mario assets.

No it's just an update to their policy. They didn't actually enforce anything new.

As far as M-rated guys that occasionally appear on Nintendo stuff go, I'm personally betting on Duke. I just wish more people will next time, seeing as B-K is most people's biggest chance at a Western third party making it right now, and Duke's a blip on the radar.

Having both of these guys in though? The Internet would not only be broken, it'd be bombarded with nuclear weaponry, napalm, and the resulting ashes would be stepped on.

Why would you assume they’d take out the only Duck Hunt song from Smash 4 due to an Ultimate remix version? We’ve had multiple versions of one song many times in the same game, and Duch Hunt will be no different.

James Bond was probably not highly considered for Smash, but was specifically mentioned with Banjo & Kazooie for not being in Melee for specific reasons.

Here's the quotes, so there's no ambiguity:

"Incidentally, including a character from Rare in Smash would be difficult for various reasons. I know there are some people who think that Banjo & Kazooie are an obvious inclusion, but that’s unlikely for a variety of legal and financial reasons.”

“Showing realistic guns = no good! Character uses an actor’s likeness = no good! Since the original game is based on a movie, getting those rights = no good! He’s Rare’s property = no good! Blocked on all fronts.”

So the reasons given for Banjo & Kazooie were legal reasons--Sakurai went more in depth on James Bond, talking about realistic guns, as well as specifically talking about the extra complications when an actor's likeness is involved.

But those dismissing Banjo & Kazooie are less likely to claim legal complications outright forbid them as characters, now that the possibility is up in the air. So, they lean on tired arguments of relevancy, never Nintendo characters (haha), and these fan rules don't mean that much any more. The fact that Banjo & Kazooie were obvious inclusions, according to Sakurai, at one point, and only legal issues prevented them, if we think there's a possibility those legal issues could be overcome, there's very little reason not to consider their inclusion as bringing back long-awaited fan favorites.

Didn't even think about that. I suppose that would be a loophole, should the music theory end up correct.


On a similar note, I wish people would stop brushing off this theory. Feels like most people are ignoring it because they don't want to acknowledge anything that decreases the chances of a character they support. "Yeah, there's absolutely no way Geno and Skull Kid don't get in. Everyone says they're likely, so that means they obviously have the highest chances of getting in. Music theory is bogus."

hehe I did get the joke, but thought it'd be interesting to reply nonetheless. While kidding, there's also some truth to it that I thought would be interesting to dissect (I had certain names as counter-examples when making my post).

Also, with the music theory, part of me wants to go through the thread to find some of those saying the music theory's bogus proclaiming it as gospel prior today. The other part of me is lazy. It's an interesting pattern, but it's one of those patterns that could just very easily be broken.

Though TotsBS, didn't you mention rumors saying Mario music would be today? Guess they were right. I'm curious about the source and if they had mentioned anything else now.

Pit looks like he partied with Daisy and Pauline too hard while Mega Man is protecting them both from the nonstop energy Daisy possesses that can destroy all life from every multiversal dimension (the longer she parties, the longer she lives and more powerful she becomes)
