6 PM? Isn't that, like, extremely late? For me, it's 01:00 am of the next day. Are you saying that 6PM PST is where there could be that announcement?

6 PM PST is where us West Coast people get the new music drop, but what matters is if there'll be an update in general. We never got an update on the Tuesday before the Smash Direct, because we then got new music the next day.

If we don't get any music at all today, a Nintendo Direct is 100% confirmed. Besides, we never really had two new music drops in one week, so they'd most definitely would save it for Thursday. Remember though, that's with an IF. It could be possible we get two new tracks to listen to this week. Time will tell.

I'm curious but, it feels like people are pretty sure we aren't going to get Monster Hunter as a playable character even with Rathalos as a boss and a Monster Hunter 'stage' (which it remains to be seen if it's a legit stage or something for the mode specifically). Is it that people straight up don't think we're getting them in or is it that nobody is really talking about it because there's no "credible" leaks claiming Monster Hunter at the moment?

I mean... to me it feels like right now MonHun is.. pretty likely. Unless people are assuming Rathalos is just being a "Capcom Boss" but that feels weird they'd choose Rath to be a boss for Megaman and Ryu.

Well, for Monster Hunter, the dev team is very particular. They originally denied having any characters in Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, eventually allowing one in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.

It also seems unlikely that Sakurai would reveal a 3rd Party assist trophy/boss before the actual character.

It's possible that Sakurai wanted to represent MH due to its popularity but felt it better to include a monster over the hunter as the monsters are more iconic. Its also possible he chose MH to have a boss rather then Street Fighter due to SF characters all being human-sized and bosses working better as larger characters/machines.

Yeah, Zelda got a Hilda colour in the 1st DLC Adventure Map.
People are discussing Zelda as an Echo over an Alt due to Zelda seemingly not having a Hilda colour (demo), Hilda working well as a Zelda Echo, and Hilda having a different personality from Zelda (and thus not a good costume alt)

But neither but it is a nice use of his girth that connects with Klump. If he can use his stomach as a pseudo-shield and attack then his superior should logically be able too as well.

Isn't Squirtle from the same franchise? It's Pokemon vs Pokemon, and if Jigglypuff could be considered their own fighter, Squirtle can too. Only reason Greninja got in was not just their moves--but Sakurai needed a Gen 6 Pokemon, that was promotional, and Greninja nicely fit the Fire vs Water theme with Charizard as his own fighter (I don't think it's just a coincidence that Smash 4 had a red/blue theme with Wii U and 3DS). The game was about dichotomies.

A slot was reserved for a Gen VI Pokemon, sure, but Greninja himself was chosen because Sakurai saw his concept design and thought he would make for an interesting ninja-themed moveset. Not even sure if anyone knew he would be popular at that point.

Greninja got in because it is what TPC wanted.
Which is just about always true.
It's not possible to compare what happens with Pokemon, in and out of Smash, to any other series.
It is its own entity for far too many reasons.

I honestly don't know what was the intent of osby with the post that "Greninja is from a fighting game." It did not seem to support any argument in any way.
And I usually can follow the statements of osby pretty well.

We are getting online sometime this month.
And we are approaching week two of the month.

Whenever I see your posts I get concerned. They are always right after mine, and with no avatar, no signature, and the color you set, it appears like a warning label.

I actually really wanted to know what the intentions were behind the "from a fighting game" post.
Which is technically untrue, as Pokemon is an RPG, not a "fighting game" in the way we consider the phrase to mean regarding genre.

I mean its a good theory for a capcom character but he's competing with Ken, Dante, Viewtiful Joe, Amateratsu, more Megaman characters (though Zero didn't get in and if Zero isn't in I doubt they'd bring in anyone else besides an echo), an RE rep, Aruthur from Ghosts n Goblins, the guy from Ghostrick

Real talk, I'll be surprised if there's no Ace Attorney representation in Ultimate to any extent. The series is very popular and has always been a Nintendo exclusive. At least give me a Phoenix AT and some music damnit.

He's not really competing with Ken when he's likely an Echo.
And yeah, there's Dante and Amaterasu(I'm sorry but I don't see Viewtiful Joe happening) but I Phoenix is not only more closely tied to Nintendo(not that it matters much as we see with Cloud), but incredibly popular too. We can't forget the guy's a meme. Not to mention whatever crazy and wacky moveset, stage and items he would bring.
Maybe we could have a ladder item.
