Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Hot Take:

Gardevoir is the epitome of a bandwagon character, and if the CEO Datamine hadn't guessed Richter no one would be seriously talking about her.
Not exactly.
People were talking about Gardevoir as soon as it was absent in the demo. Just like Ashley and Skull Kid.

Hot Take: Axiom Verge is better than Super Metroid. Though, the music is better in Metroid, but everything else, I just can't go back to a 2D Metroid game.
It's hard for me to say tbh, SM still has incredibly fun movement technique, smooth ass controls and I'm much more of a fan of Samus and Ridley. Axiom Verge is great and it's also super fun on its own right but I think the character aspect and lore of Metroid wins me over to it. Not that I can't understand why you like AV more though.

It may not have popped in my head before that, but I'd like Gardevoir and have always liked it. It's a cool Pokemon IMO but eh, to each their own. :)

I personally want Primarina for a gen 7 'Mon.

The Western side of Pop Star.
The next revealed character will be 68 though
Right, though I do think the next Direct will start with a unique character reveal regardless.

Why did they kill the person Sakurai voiced then?
Got punted out of a trailer, has no Memories article, gets called slow in his factoid, this isn't Dedede's year. At least he got a cool new FS.

Thanks! I noticed you haven't been doing these leak roundups lately. Why?
Got too busy for them. I started college in August, and between classes, extracurriculars, and the transition I don't have nearly as much time for leak hunting as I did back in the day.

Both loz and mimique are hinting at isaac today
When did loz hint at him? Source?

EDIT: There is none. Here's what happened with loz:
loz18 said in his discord server that he didn't think Isaac was in. Someone screencapped it, posted it here, and all hell broke loose. The original poster of the thread, SmashInsideNews (a new user), then spent the rest of the night roleplaying Donald Trump (oddly enough), screeching dozens of posts about Isaac and Skull Kid in every thread he could find until he finally earned himself a well-deserved ban.

Smashburb was in the server as well, was blamed incorrectly as the leaker, and banned from the server. Smashburb's retaliation was to actually turn into a leaker and post more videos from the server, which is why (I believe) he was banned from gamefaqs.

loz18 has been trolling ever since, announcing things like "Oh Isaac's definitely in" because this board revealed a pathological need to analyze every word he says and he's laughing at us. This spawned a few more explosive threads screencapping chatlogs and screaming about it. Everything has finally calmed down, with the general consensus being loz is full of s*** and Isaac/Skull Kid's chances are no better or worse than before.

RotoM goodnaturedly memed about it on gamefaqs and got a very swift ban/suspension hammer, and is by far the most innocent person in all of this

Part of me thinks of what it would be like if Sakurai was lying about "not as many fighters" and it actually turned out we have a whole more to go. We'd get reveals on the same pace as ifbwe had, like, 4 to go but them we get another Smash Direct in November with a neecomer bonanza eith, like, 10 more or something.
It won't happen but I like daydreaming about unlikely yet hype Smash scenarios

I have knowledge of the unannounced newcomers for the title Super Smash Bros. Ultimate thanks to my pal. There are 12 more newcomers to be announced. 6 uniques, 6 echoes. The uniques are:
> Bandana Dee
> Shantae
> Geno (He'll be announced last)
> Isaac from Golden Sun
> Skull Kid from Zelda: Majora's Mask
> Incineroar, the 7th gen Pokemon rep
The echoes are:
> Black Knight (Ike's echo)
> Dixie Kong (Diddy Kong's echo)
> Ken (Ryu's echo)
> Isabelle (Villager's echo)
> Shadow (Sonic's echo)
> Dark Meta Knight (Meta Knight's echo)

>No more new stages
>No more new items
> Masterpieces, Custom Moves and Challenges have been cut
> Trophies from Melee and Brawl return
>There's a new Music shop where you can buy
tracks; the tracks on sale change every day in real time
> Online modes like Conquest, For Fun and Glory are back from Smash Wii U/3DS
> Spirits Mode is a story mode, but I don't know what it's about
> Most fighters has at least 1 or 2 real alternate costumes
> Classic minigames from Melee and 64 return
> There are 4 methods to unlocking characters:
V.S. Match route (every character is unlocked every 15 matches), by Spirits Mode, by random method (For example, to unlock Wolf, you need to score 30 KOs on Lylat Cruise as Fox), or by amiibo scanning
> All Mii Fighter costumes and accessories from Smash Wii U/3DS return and are unlocked from the get go after unlocking the Mii Fighters

There will be a normal Direct this month. I don't know when, but 2 newcomers will be revealed.

Thanks to my friend for telling me this. I really hope all this is true, or I'm gonna have one less friend.
This is a good leak, if this were real it would make me happy.

If only...

My predictions for the September Direct:
- Online is either not mentioned, or very briefly mentioned (why market a service now when you haven't tried yet?)
- Smash character announcement
- That's it

Otherwise I'm not sure what they would announce. My hope is that the rumored New Super Mario Bros U port is a lie, and Super Mario 3D World is getting a port or sequel. Best Mario game since Super Mario 64 (that includes Odyssey). After my hopes were dashed seeing Captain Toad in the Spring Direct, I'm not sure my heart can take another disappointment. Also, a title card for Animal Crossing. Just to **** with people who thought it would be at E3. Otherwise, I don't expect any Smash stuff other than a highly requested first party character (Skull Kid or Bandana Waddle Dee). Can't imagine Isaac being in a general Nintendo Direct, but weirder things have happened, and I'd be all for it. Maaaaybe Isabelle and Dixie echoes, but I just don't see how they would frame that outside of a major Smash Direct. I guess they could tie in Isabelle with an Animal Crossing announcement... Dixie? Perhaps the racing game was a sham, and it was really Dixie Kong Racing.

Also, that reminds me, my pipe dream is a N64 Classic with Rare title announcements along with Banjo & Kazooie in Smash. Too perfect. Which is why it's never gonna happen.

Then Nintendo pulls a fast one, and like E3, it's 10 minutes of alright Nintendo announcements followed by 20 minutes of Smash.

There was a problem fetching the tweet
This could just be some trolling from loz18 though. Here's what's been happening over there recently:
loz18 said in his discord server that he didn't think Isaac was in. Someone screencapped it, posted it here, and all hell broke loose. I think anybody expecting another massive information dump will end up disappointed. On the next Nintendo Direct, which may or may not be on Thursday, I think it'd be safe to expect maybe one fighter or one, maybe two Echo Fighters.
I think they're definitely going to have Smash reveals in the next general direct, and I totally see it coming in the next two weeks for the online service. But yeah, I expect we'll get at most a character and an echo. It'll also probably be a general favorite character like Isabelle, rather than one of these obscure-to-anyone-but-Smash-speculators like Geno.

---
A decent amount. Here's a session like the good ol' times. I'm including thread links as well.
I'm loving Leak 4 here. Sounds like a nice set of reveals, but then...
I honestly do not believe we'll be getting any characters from newly represented IP's like Tekken or Golden Sun
...
68. Isaac
...uhhh...

...also petition for these icons to be standard here
---

The issue with that would be Ike...

He's not...
the sharpest knife in the drawer. It'd be a bit easy to win with him.
Aw, I knew I liked Ike for a reason. Not everyone needs a romance!

It would be a nice surprise but I don’t expect a direct this week. If one were to happen this month, it would be too early right now imo.

I kinda think Loz might be trolling at this point, but eh, who knows? Gonna have to wait and see how that plays out. Isaac would be cool for Golden Sun fans, so I'm hoping for their sake he'll make it somehow.

For me, I've already accepted Isabelle is the only thing on my wishlist that has any shot at happening. I'm not really gonna have too much stake in speculation after we learn what's up with her, TBH. I have a feeling we'll know her fate by the next Direct.

I expect a direct either this week or next week if only because Nintendo NEEDS TO ****ING TELL US ABOUT THEIR ONLINE SYSTEM.

A direct this week is more likely as they need to officially announce the Best Buy Smash Ultimate Demo as well, and that's totally something they'd do in a Nintendo Direct.

Loz is such a great leaker that Loz has a variety of sources--that all contradict each other and that Loz instantly posts about after hearing from another one.

My source told me about the smash direct in september.
-First trailer, it's Geno.
-Sakurai tells us that he got 1000s of requests for Geno over the years.
-After that, Sakurai tells us there are two new echo fighters
-It's Dixie Kong and Shadow the Hedgehog
-Spirits Mode is the censored mode in the 8.8 direct.
-You fight bosses to free the spirits of characters to unlock them.
-After that, Sakurai shows off some more items, music, and stages
-Sakurai tells us that the amount of content is tremendous
-Sakurai shows of some more modes like All Star Mode, Home Run Contest and Break the Targets
-Sakurai scratches his nose as the direct comes to an end
-The screen slowly fades to black for a second until a bright golden sun appears on the screen
-Isaac from Golden Sun trailer shown

Hey fake leakers out there, enough with the fake direct leaks. You just do it so you can get a take this with a grain of salt video. It needs to end. I’m calming veracity. This direct will be September 27. Online launches September 21, there will be a direct mini for it. Now let’s get to it
> The direct starts of with Super Smash Bros 64 3D. It is being remade with Classic Pit, Game and Watch, and Pac-Man. Launches in 2019. (It started production in May)
> Luigi’s Mansion launching October 30
> Mario&Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story Remake is launching in January
> The camera switches to something. Luigi is walking. Ghosts appear. Luigi’s Mansion 3, 2019
> (Camera switches to Reggie) Hello, I bet you didn’t see that coming. Luigi is yet in another adventure, on Nintendo Switch. We hope you are excited. Now, let's take a look at some headlines for Nintendo Switch.
> Pokemon Let’s Go more info
> Some indies titles are, Terraria launching 2018, Killer Queen Black and Shovel Knight: King Of Cards launching today, (Undertale launched on September 14) and the final indie, 5 nights at freddy's launching October 30
> More bundles, Joy-Cons, and Pro Controllers
> All the 3RD parties are announced with quick looks, Team Sonic Racing, Megaman 11, Diablo 3, Overwatch, Injustice 2, Prey, Doom Eternal, Spyro, Destiney 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 2.
> SNES Remix, holiday 2018, and N64 Remix, 2019
> The N64 Mini is basically teased showing the N64 on Reggies tabel while he is in a house, and its small. It will be next to the Nintendo Switch Dock
> DAEMON X MACHINA, January 2019
> Mario Odyssey DLC, Mansion and Isle Delfino Kingdom. (Luigi Playable) available November
> The main thing is Super Mario Party, so no headlines
> A new Fire Emblem Three Houses trailer with a April release, and Shin Megami Tensei V trailer, 2019
> Back to headline, Tokyo Mirage Session port, and a sequel is in the works for 2019
> Travis Strikes Again launches December 4
> Wonderful 101 is also being ported to Switch
> It ends off with a trailer to the new Golden Sun: Shining releasing 2019
> Fully ends off with Isaac announced in Smash. Then Felix is announced as his echo fighter. Isaac and Felix are added to the roster.
According to my source, there will be no more characters that will be added to the primary artwork for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. The reason for this is because every fighter represented there will all be fairly easy to unlock by either playing casually the other modes, or by playing Spirits.

With that said, there will be 12 fighters in the game that will be incredibly difficult to unlock, as their unlock conditions are all going to be tied down to Spirits mode--either in part or in whole. With the final fighter in the game requiring 100% completion of Spirits.

He gave me a full list of these remaining fighters. 6 of whom are unique, and another 6 being echoes. However, many of these fighters seem really hard to believe. I honestly do not believe we'll be getting any characters from newly represented IP's like Tekken or Golden Sun, and at least one or two of these Echo Fighters seem really far fetched. And this is in spite my best bets to vet my source.

Still, as I am not totally bought into what he is saying, I'm going to give you what are presumably going to be our next couple of reveals:

68. Isaac
69. Skull Kid

And if you really want to know why I do not trust my source completely, it's because he also stated that Bandana Dee would be an Echo of Kirby. Among other things.

But if my source proves correct, I will return with the full roster in due time. If not, well, then I guess my source proved unreliable.
https://boards.fireden.net/v/thread/427689695/#427689695
Many people are waiting for a Nintendo Direct. There is titles still releasing this year that people want to know. This is where the direct comes along. This takes place September 12, or 13, or 15. My source doesn’t say witch exactly. (I don’t even no if this is real thanks to my cousin working at Nintendo because he didn’t show me proof.) Anyways, let's go straight to it. Nindies is safed for its own direct.
Rate in pending-M
> Bandana Waddle dee and Galacta Knight (Echo) are confirmed for Smash
3DS headlines are first
> Luigi Mansion gets a release date, October 12
> Mario&Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story remake gets more footage. With a release of January 2019
> The headlines end off with a game called “One Hero’s Sword”. I guess it’s a new IP. But this he showed me proof, it looks really cool, he did just show me a screenshot. I don’t know if it's like a Fire Emblem game are something. With a release of, 2019.
> Then is a gameplay trailer for Yoshi. Now titled “Yoshi Flipped” with a release of February 2019
> Fire Emblem Three Houses gameplay trailer, releasing April 2019
> Then we get are headlines for Nintendo Switch (NOT IN ORDER)
> Ninjala. It is a new game that is being worked on for Switch. It was announced at E3. March 2019
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's a cutoff here, and two possible endings. One has Isaac, the other doesn't.
> More free to play games and Demos are announced, Warframe, Realm Royale, Mario Tennis Aces DEMO, Dark Souls Remastered, and Smash Bros Ultimate Demo, (only available if you buy online)
> Next is more HD games and WiiU ports, Wonderful 101, Mario Maker, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and Legends Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. Don’t no release dates
> Next is more news on Daemon X Machina. Releases in January
> Pokemon Let’s Go info
> Super Mario Party info
> Mario RPG: Legends Of The Seven Stars is getting a remake. (This is what killed me) Releases in 2019
> Dark Souls releases October 2
> Travis Strikes Again. More news, don’t no why its delayed to 2019.
> Star Fox gets a game on switch with no title, 2019
> 3RD parties, Overwatch 2018, Tekken 7 2018, Injustice 2 2019, and Cuphead 2018
> Big announcement for Online, launches September 28
> An announcement then Xenoblade Torna is still coming, Kirby Star Allies gets more content.
> Teaser to Kirby AirRdie 2 (this also killed me until he showed me a screenshot)
> Ends off with a trailer to Geno in Super Smash Bros: Ultimate. Then him and Bandana Waddle dee and Galacta Knight is added to the art.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This guy isn't me

>Dark Souls Remastered gets a release date, October 12
>Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes gets a release date of Q1 2019
>.hack//GU Last Recode and Tales of Symphonia Chronicles releasing on Switch 2019
>Daemon X Machina new info
>Pikmin 3 Plus, new version of Pikmin 3 releasing November 2nd
>Super Mario Party gets new info
>New Super Mario Bros U is ported to Switch, releasing December 13 2018
>Ends with a trailer revealing Isaac for Smash Bros Ultimate, with Matthew as an echo.

My personal prediction for a early September Direct:
-Online is big headline
-Switch Q4 is revealed
-Smash Bros. Demo is officially revealed
-Smash Bros. reveal: Either Isaac (and maybe Felix or Matthew), Skull Kid, or Incineroar.

>Wrestler/Heel Fighter moveset in Smash Bros, an actual, prominent fighting style that hasn't been represented yet.
>Waifubait who's moveset is already exhausted between Zelda, Palutena, and Mewtwo
View attachment 161725
Wait. Realization.

Leak 1:
" There are 12 more newcomers to be announced. 6 uniques, 6 echoes. The uniques are:
> Bandana Dee
> Shantae
> Geno (He'll be announced last)
> Isaac from Golden Sun
> Skull Kid from Zelda: Majora's Mask

> Dixie Kong (Diddy Kong's echo)
> Ken (Ryu's echo)
> Isabelle (Villager's echo)
> Shadow (Sonic's echo)
> Dark Meta Knight (Meta Knight's echo)"

Leak 4:
"With that said, there will be 12 fighters in the game that will be incredibly difficult to unlock, as their unlock conditions are all going to be tied down to Spirits mode--either in part or in whole. With the final fighter in the game requiring 100% completion of Spirits."

The final fighter in the game is the most difficult character to unlock. They must be pretty impressive then.

What if this last unlock is Dark Meta Knight, and his moveset is ported straight from Brawl Meta Knight, the most infamous character in Smash History?

I want Sable so badly and I want a For the Frog the Bell Tolls sequel/remake soon. He is my #1 most wanted newcomer now, but I do not think he is going to be the retro chosen for this game. I expect a notably ballot-popular retro like Lip getting in over him. :(

If they drop it all in a tweet some random afternoon, I'm not gonna be surprised. I'm not saying that'll happen, but I'm still not ruling it out.

As someone who has hyped themselves for Directs in the past...I'd recommend playing the waiting game. Even though I am on the side of one happening this month, I by no means think it's a guarantee. Nintendo doesn't really operate on patterns. They follow their own path, which can be summed up as "We'll do what we want when we well darn feel like it, and we'll do it however we wanna do it, negative reactions be darned."

That is about the only pattern I've ever seen Nintendo follow. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's Amiibo Festival.

I honestly have no idea what a direct would contain other than Smash.

- Pokemon games are, historically, shown off in their own thing so they wouldn't be in a direct
- Mario Party comes out next month so I guess that's an option but we kinda just know everything about it
- The rest of the confirmed Q4 lineup until December is Indies for the most part and we already had two Indie directs (though we still don't have Wargroove!)
- Last year, Capcom said Ace Attorney was coming to Switch in 2018. I'm assuming that got delayed but I guess that's an option.
- Starlink is an October title
- Dark Souls Remastered is next month
- Diablo 3 is about the only other thing I can think of

With this as the only sort of time competition, Smash sticks out a lot and I think Nintendo knows it. If we get like ~10 minutes of Switch Online, ~5 minutes of 'headlines' and then a Smash trailer, I think that's the best we can do. Especially if we get a date for the next Smash direct at the end.

I don't see them doing anything with 2019 releases until like February.

Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4 maybe?
