Crash and Spyro are the two characters I'd put my hand on fire to say they'll be DLC. They just seem like the kind of characters that, if following 3DS/Wii U's patterns, fit like T for a DLC spot (third party, amazingly popular and iconic, more or less associated with the competition = good sales potential)

Base game tho, I think it's unlikely. The support only blew up on the same Direct that announced Ultimate, plus they were kinda dormant around 2015

Less Obvious but equally important: Angry Birds, Steve, Scorpion, Lara

Honestly, I think Spyro has more of a shot than Crash. But mostly, I think we are unlikely to get one without the other.
Let's not forget that Spyro, even if somewhat disassociated, launched the Toys-to-Life brand. He didnt just have a comeback, he did a Madonna and took over the world with his new form. The legacy of this move was massive in the gaming industry. It merits inclusion on its own.

I hope Crash and Spyro are a comboed dlc package, I’d lose my mind.. those two characters are 90s video gaming icons.

Skull Kid is objectively the most popular remaining Zelda character. You can choose to believe it or not but its there. Spyro has the one enormous disadvantage of never making it in Japan though, the two first games tanked hard so hard they didn't even sell 100k combined, and Year of the Dragon never got released there. Of course some inclusions are made with the western audience in mind, but there's a difference between that and then putting a character who might aswell never have been localized in Smash, they're not going to neglect Japan entirely with any newcomers imo.

I'm not sure how Skylanders did over there, but that's not the Spyro anyone wants in the game anyways. I can easily see a world where we get Crash as DLC and Spyro, as much as I like him, is never taken into consideration.

It's probably fake.

The guy basically rattled a load of things off that are self-evident if you give them enough thought (LOZ knew someone who had access to the demo, but that's all he knew, etc.).

It's also obviously full of bias, logical fallacies and contradictions.

Him sounding like he's a higher-up ranting about people leaking doesn't make him a higher up ranting about people leaking.

Plus, they're dumping content regularly and the game was only revealed closer to release rather than years out, which keeps the hype from becoming too large to sate in a timely manner.

It's possible that Ultimate was revealed much closer to release to defend against leaks, but I think it's more because announcing games within a year of release is Nintendo's standard MO nowadays (their only exceptions within the past five years are Zelda BOTW, Metroid Prime 4, and Pokemon Gen 8), and announcing Ultimate so soon after Smash 4 would have killed enthusiasm for the game, harming its game sales, DLC sales, and possibly its competitive scene in the meantime.

Define "heavily requested".

Skull Kid's support has been around for a long time, but he's never been heavily requested (just look at the Brawl and Sm4sh threads on this site, neither of them are particularly big). Not to mention that he's competing with like 10-15 other Zelda characters.

Skull Kid individually wasn't highly requested, but a Zelda newcomer overall certainly was. It's not technically accurate to claim Skull Kid alone was this highly demanded character, but considering pretty much all the support scattered across all the Zelda characters would favor him, it isn't inaccurate either to claim he is a desired character.

I can see that happening as well. I just do not think that is what happened.
You made some astute points about Spyro in Japan- but I do think that, even if Spyro is almost certain to get his more preferred classic design, that the phenomenon that launched amiibos, is likely to have been considered.

If I recall correctly, Nintendo has a weird history with Toys to Life figures; they were offered the Skylander's brand in exclusivity, before releasing the Pokemon Rumble figures (amiibo before amiibo, on the Wii U), and then still Nintendo ended up with two crossover characters *in* Skylanders (DK and Bowser).

I do want to point out that if you look up Brawls leaks, the 2 leakers there were both considered ridiculous for their claims, especially with the way they acted on the internet (they were immature to say the least), but both were right.


Being weird via the internet shouldn't be a detractor of information, because people are ****ing weird lol. Yes, Loz could be wrong, Vergeben could be wrong. They both could be trolling post E3. Who honestly knows. We won't know anything until we get more info, but it's just important to keep that mindset. Its worth paying attention to people with prior history, even if you doubt them now.

I have my own beliefs in the matter. You can have yours and that's okay! I can see how much id like to have a playable Skull Kid, Isaac. Geno and Banjo considering I grew up with each character at different stages of my childhood, so of course I'm probably just biased towards both leakers as a result.

I'm definitely keeping an eye on Loz. I just prefer to take things with a pinch of salt so I don't get disappointed. Most of that mindset comes from all the times I was burned by "Mother 3 coming west" rumors back in the Wii U days, lol. Maybe someday...

I'm right there with you on the characters you listed: Skull Kid, Isaac, Geno, and Banjo would all be great for a bunch of reasons. If Skull Kid does make it into the game, it'll probably be the greatest moment in Smash history for me, as Majora's Mask is a game very important to me and is my second favorite video game of all time. He's probably the only thing that could be revealed right now that could top my hype for the Inklings, to be honest. The only reason I can be a little biased against Loz's leaks is because of my own bias with wanting Isabelle, and Loz has made it sound like he doesn't think she's in which would make me a little sad. Besides Isabelle, though, I have to say I do prefer the characters in Loz's leaks compared to Verge's.

As for not judging the leak based off of behavior, I agree that probably isn't the best reason for me to be skeptical. In all fairness, the ESRB leaker was legit in the end and their posts were..."interesting", to say the least.

While, I'd personally love Crash and Spyro in a DLC pack together--it feels like Activision would be getting something unique among third parties, having two unique characters announced alongside each other. Seems more of a dream, than a realistic expectation. But I do dare to dream...

Also, I love the opportunity to talk third parties, as I feel like with every veteran returning, there's not that many first party characters to get excited about this time around. Banjo & Kazooie are my top pick, obviously, and Crash is a close second. Banjo & Kazooie were Nintendo icons back in the day, and it would be great for Nintendo and Microsoft to come together to make that happen, especially for those of us who have been with Smash since the 64 days. And Crash was another game I played all the time as a kid, and like B&K, his moves are very suited for Smash.

Just imagine this. 4 Player match: Nintendo's mascot, Sega's mascot, current Microsoft IP, and Sony's former mascot. It's the dream console-rivalry match up, not to mention adding Mega Man, Pac-Man, Snake and Cloud for an 8 player match.

It's true that abbriviations aren't exactly unknown to Smash, it's more there's really no reason to use Crash's full alias on the CSS when other characters don't, and Crash himself hasn't always used it.
Like, as an example, if Sonic is a CPU in modes like Smash Run, they do use his full alias of "Sonic the Hedgehog" when addressing him on the "News Smash". Despite that, Sonic is still just Sonic on the CSS and announcer call. I don't see how a pause menu changes that when I'm sure Sonic has had a situation or two with his name abbriviated in one of his past titles.
