I'm really starting to drink the kool-aid in thinking Shantae has a big shot at being on the roster.

That quote from the DLC keeps bugging me.

It could be nothing, but man, even if she's an assist trophy that'd be rad.

I will say from playing both, she seems a little more robust than Shovel Knight, just due to having more games than him.

I'm hoping she's revealed at Ninnies, but if not, she still has a chance for base roster and DLC, and life goes on. But until then... would you like some more fruit punch? XD

But Ryu's Dan costume was removed. That means Dan is going to be Ryu's echo based on the patterns™

I would rather Ken then Dan any day.

But Ken is like one of gaming's most iconic blondes ever?

Not to mention he's the original echo fighter.

If it ain't Ken i'm sure as heck going to be surprised.

I still think Ken has a good chance for an echo, I'd just like it if Sakurai threw us a reasonable curveball and went with something not as predictable. Regardless who Ryu's echo is though, I just want them not to have inputs like Ryu so that they're easier to use.

If you start thinking certain characters are “locks” you’re gonna have a baaaaad time. I think a lot of people are massively overstating the importance of certain aspects regarding their character getting including.

For example, everybody said "Ashley and Mimikyu are super popular and are really unique! They also (as of 8/08/18) haven't been shown as Assist Trophies, a Pokeball, or stage element!"

Some of us are now saying the same exact things about particular characters and now calling them "locks". Unless there's actually proof of each character being in the game, there's no reason to conclude they're in. I know everybody is excited (I sure as hell am). But you have to hype responsibly. Every Smash game, people come out and say, "YO. THERE'S NO WAY THEY'RE NOT ADDING X TO THE GAME"...guess what? They might not have added X to the game, lol.

Another thing about that...despite the amount of love he gets on this website and a few other sites, Bandanna Waddle Dee is absolutely not on par with Ridley or K.Rool in terms of popularity. Nobody is close. The only characters that have lasted long and were popular around the time that at least Ridley really started are Isaac, Geno, and maybe Skull Kid.

I can definitely say that people basically said there's no way Isaac and Geno wouldn't be added at one point. That obviously didn't work out. I'm going to go ahead and assume that people saying certain characters are "locks" are effectively just stating their confidence in certain characters getting in. That's fine. But I still think you're asking for it if you think more than a few characters are "locks".

If we follow Vergeben, the closest things to a "lock" right now would be Incineroar, Isabelle, and Ken. Those are probably the closest thing to a potential "lock".

Ever since before we knew Smash was even coming to the Switch, I was confident on three characters being locks: Inkling, Isabelle, and "a new Pokémon." I still hold true to my opinion that the latter two are absolutely locks, no matter how people like to circlejerk about locks not existing except the Inkling.

As far as who I considered to be locks, there were only 2 for me. The first was Inkling for obvious reasons, the second was Dark Samus for again, obvious reasons. I also always believed Ridley would be in, but I can't really say I viewed him as a lock, as that was more of a personal feeling thing, and less of a "the facts point to here" thing.

Isabelle is the only remaining character that I think was a lock at the beginning.

Currently, there's a load of Echos I'm confident in thought none of them are 100% locks

I vaguely remember a decent amount of talk during the Sm4sh hype of people believing Jigglypuff was cut. (and maybe some about Falcon too? But he was revealed before release. I might be imagining the bit about him though.)

Regardless who Ryu's echo is though, I just want them not to have inputs like Ryu so that they're easier to use.

Ironically Ryu is usually the beginner friendly character in the games he's in.

I don't see a SF character getting in without the inputs because it wouldn't be a SF character otherwise.

Jigglypuff was almost axed in Brawl, so that probably contributed to that sentiment.

There's always someone who thinks Jigglypuff is going to get cut. To be fair to those people, it was considered a low priority character for Brawl based on its absence from Subspace and how its cosmetics are listed way later than the rest of the N64 characters.

Oh yeah, I remember that. One of the best parts of the Robin trailer was that Captain Falcon was also confirmed. People were getting nervous that they hadn’t seen him.

the better point to make is to say most of the costumed characters have appeared in some way in this game form final smashes to assist trophies to characters. Even items as well. there were no lcks to this game except for inklings and they were shown before we knew it was a new game.

That said, there are minor differences between originals and echoes. Examples include taunts (Daisy), attack set (Chrom), movement (Dark Samus). It's a fine line perhaps, but it can be argued that it's there.

Either unique or echo is likely, but after Pittoo's demotion into Echo designation, I have a hunch Sakurai would make Medusa unique, given her seniority status.

I could see like Medusa being the new Kid Icarus character with like the Underworld as a new stage, and maybe Twinbellows appears as the stage boss or something like that.

At the end of E3, I'm definitely not psychic lol. Imo to be a lock the evidence has to be really obvious, and in general most agreed Dark Samus was likely. I definitely wasn't alone in that prediction, not by a long shot.
