Take Isaac, but specifically Dark Dawn Isaac so we also increase the amount of bearded characters from 1 to 2.

Personally, I can easily see Bandana Dee being passed over this time, even as DLC, and inevitably becoming the most wanted newcomer by the fanbase for the next game, whenever that is.

Honestly I'm just glad Marth is getting more love though. He's the face of the franchise but up until now, you wouldn't know that, looking at Heroes. Glad Smash gives him tons of respect though. He deserves it. Also new Archanea banner when? I need Lena and OG Hardin.

My problem with ZSS’s Ultimate model isn’t her reduced boobs, it’s her uncanny valley eyes and lips, like damn what happened to you girl

Her hair looks kinda...not as dynamic too. At least her Photoshopped-to-hell-and-back render looks alright

The face is a huge downgrade too, but that bothers me less because you don’t really see it from the distance the camera sits at in Smash. The boobs makes her whole profile from a distance look really off to me. Like it isn’t even her anymore.

To me it's both. Not gonna play her anymore if it's not changed, because I really don't like how she looks. The shrunken bosom is a bitter pill, but I still would have played her, but her disturbing face is inviting nightmares. o.ol

As a proud member of the balding community, I demand accurate depiction instead of the alleged representation by a pink lightweight puffball, a yellow gluttonous ghost killer, and whatever mgw is pretending to be. They lack any hair on thier “bodies” and, therefore, do not understand the suffering and ridicule that goes with premature baldification. Meanwhile, we got Chads and Stacie’s with flowing red, silver, and blur hair, magestic ganon-manes, glorious jigglycurls, princess perms, he-man tier bowlcuts, and dogs devoid of mange.

Personally, I can easily see Bandana Dee being passed over this time, even as DLC, and inevitably becoming the most wanted newcomer by the fanbase for the next game, whenever that is.

I can't give you an approximate number on where BWD placed on the ballot, but I'm almost positive he was in the top ten, possibly even higher if the vets are removed. He has the popularity, the relevancy, and the iconicness - next to Inkling, Ridley, and K. Rool, BWD would've seemed like the safest and most obvious choice to me if I were Sakurai.

I don't know what's going on through his head, but if Sakurai left out Bandana Dee, I'd love to hear him say why.

64:
Age 10
I never owned it, the N64 game I had at the time was Mario Kart 64, but my cousin introduced it to me, and I've been hooked on Smash ever since. It was all we would play when I came over, but he and his two younger sisters would kick my butt, and the youngest sister who was six at the time killed me with Kirby, every single time I still have nightmares. My love for the game is pretty much incurable by now. At the time I only knew these four characters (but I only played a little DK maybe I should get Tropical Freeze and change that)


Melee:
Age: 11
By then, even if I didn't play much of the other series, I at least knew about them, I was definitely excited to see more Pokémon especially Gen 2 and Mewtwo(since I'm basically playing all the main games released). I instantly gravitated to Sheik (cause I like Ninjas/Ninja-esque characters), Marth, and Roy (cause I like Swordfighter (Soul Edge/Soul Calibur is to blame for that)), and the Ice Climbers cause they were so unique. At this time I was playing Smash with my classmates at least this time I actually stood a chance.


Brawl:
Age: 17
Probably the most agonizing wait for a game that I ever experienced. Except for Pit, Zamus, and Lucas, I knew all the characters in the game, and I held the (somewhat) unpopular opinion of loving Subspace Emissary. The character I was most hype for was Lucario, my favorite Pokémon, I just wished his speed and attacks were faster.


Smash 4:
Age: 24
Pretty much knew most of the characters and the series they came from. I still remember how happy I was that my picks made it in (Lucina, Palutena, and Corrin), and that the Smash Ballot was a real thing. It was around this time I started coming onto Smashboards to learn about the game but I was mostly a lurker.


Ultimate:
Age: 28
Actually the most active I've been on Smashboards since... ever it really makes the wait for Ultimate more tolerable. I really appreciate the different people I get to talk to, and all the points you all bring up. If it wasn't for you all and this place introducing me to characters I never would thought of as potential newcomers, my Wishlist would be just Lyn, Krystal, Amaterasu, Shantae, and Sora.

Her proportions are like all the other "realistic" character so yes, she should have realistic proportions.
Also, fyi boobs don't stick to clothing like Smash 4 ZSS's do.

I’ve noticed in one of Simon’s screenshots he’s standing next to Young Link and YL doesn’t have plastic looking hair anymore, either they touched up his model or it’s a lighting thing

However, Lucina still looks a bit dull color wise, especially next to Marth:

She was much more vibrant in 4

Shulk’s face also looks weird compared to 4, but that’s more the shape of his head, it was more round in 4

but I need to know the most important thing:

ZSS in Smash 4 felt really unfaithful to the source material, between the whip, high heels and exaggerated proportions she almost felt like a Smash original character. At least her Ultimate proportions are much more in line with her canon self.

Her face is awful though, I'll agree on that.

I really can't with these ZSS posts. I'm about to main the **** out of her just to defend these sexist "Samus is not Samus without giant ****" and "If they don't make her pretty again I'm not playing her".

Like, do you guys realize there are women on this board too and that these comments are suuuupppper degrading? Not to mention MULTIPLE people have asked to drop this topic because it makes them uncomfortable one way or another.

Seriously can we drop it? You don't like her design fine, I can't force you to like it. But to repeat the same comments about her body for multiple pages is too much. Like, I'm not familiar enough with the rules/etiquite of this board, but it should be considered common decency to avoid topics after multiple users say it makes them uncomfortable. One of the reasons I perfer Smashboards to other gaming forums is that these kinds of conversations usually don't appear or aren't tolerated, and I'm honestly surprised we're still talking about this.

Yeah, that new one looks weird in the face. Sm4sh’s did look better. It looks almost like she’s wearing too much makeup in the new one. I do prefer Samus looking more like a bounty hunter and not a covergirl.

I’m hoping it’s just some of the models looking unfinished and they’re still polishing. The big one I see that weirds me out is swole Ike. He looks like he just painted on his muscle definition and put on a ton of guyliner to compensate.

Because this huge, drastic change to her appearance bothers me a lot. I don’t think it suits her. And it’s not what she looks like in any recent Metroid game. It’s misrepresentation.

I would tend to agree. While popularity on the ballot is important, I bet Shovel Knight was popular too. It's not just about popularity, but moveset potential. If we were getting 16 unique characters, I think Bandana Dee would be very likely. But in a limited roster, popularity, moveset potential, variety are all important aspects to consider. EDIT: The only thing that gives me pause is not being present in King Dedede's final smash, so I'm not counting Bandana Dee completely out.

well I think the smash 4 design is a misrepresentation of her earlier designs, the fact of the matter is samus' boobs have changed size all the time over the course of the series, from her super metroid design, to her prime 2 design, to her prime 3 one, to zero mission to smash 4. Samus is not defined by the size of her boobs, you're looking at this a little to deep fam.

I'm really starting to drink the kool-aid in thinking Shantae has a big shot at being on the roster.

It could be nothing, but man, even if she's an assist trophy that'd be rad.

I will say from playing both, she seems a little more robust than Shovel Knight, just due to having more games than him.


Rayman I feel is a lock (Model prepped from rigging in the game already at a time where he's not even a 3D model in his own games, hasn't been one since the early/mid 00s)

Geno is a lock (Mii costume with a splash screen? Yeah he's in among other reasons)

BWD feels like a lock

Banjo & Kazooie would be a great last big blow out for the base roaster or DLC because they mean so much, more than even Crash I think. Due to, them seemingly, as far as know having one of if not the first massively open 3D environment that was bigger than Mario 64 and practically seamless. This lead to games like GTA and the like being developed in the future.

Young Link really doesn’t bother me that much. I think the plastic hair is definitely an unfinished thing, and I’m okay with him having more prominent features since he’s a kid. Wolf, I think, would be fine if they just gave him a mandible. But it’s the whole concept of the uncanny valley - the more human they are, the more we’ll scrutinize it.

I think Chrom’s big problem is just that every picture has him with the same facial expression. I guess if we get a couple more shots of him, it might be better. The one time he’s actually emoting is still really wooden.

But it is also what we’re used to. Zelda’ll take a bit for me since I really liked the colder adult version, and now they’ve knocked off about 15 years and shoved her into an anime. I’ll still play her, but her eyes are a bit big and her jaw is a bit small so it’s jarring to say the least.
