Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

If I were to be honest, I sometimes get overwhelmed by the fact that a lot of you are in your 20’s, and even 30’s and have been around for much longer and have seen much more than I have.

I’m 15 and I don’t think I have seen anyone around my age here yet.

That's weird considering MMZ DIRECTLY references the events of X...
It might have been fan theories borne from the fact that in order for MMZ to exist, bad stuff had to go down after MMX ended.

Sort of like the reaction people had to Apollo Justice's story.

I'm fifteen as well. Honestly, I wouldn't sweat it. We're just talking about a video game from behind our screens.

As far as I'm aware the timeline is Classic > X > Zero. Said three have massive skips between them, however.
This is correct. ZX follows after Z, and then Legends is oft considered part of the main lore further after, though I'm not sure that this is ever hard confirmed in game.

Huge Megaman Zero fan, so I follow that lore and what not pretty damn closely lol

Most ARE from the same timeline. Battle Network and .EXE are the same series.

MM > MMX > MMZ > MMZX > MML. They are all connected.

MMBN > MMSF. MMSF is like the MMX of Battle Network. With a ton of animal based bosses too.
Actually never played Battle Network. Is it good? Seems like a weird kind of tactical rpg, just saw some footage.

No?
WW and PH is Toon Link. ST is Toon Link's grandson.
They're the same person in Smash. That's the point. Smash does not have canon characters. It has characters who have their own thing for Smash, their own storylines literally too. Once in a while their Smash content crosses over into an official franchise itself.

Look at Toon Link's Trophy for a moment in 4. It explicitly states "Wind Waker" and "Spirit Tracks". They're the same guy. In Smash itself. So the reason Conductor Link is removed when he's playable is the same reason King Dedede is removed from the background of Dream Land when played as. They're the same character in Smash itself.

There is no Toon Link is WW either. That's a Smash-only character. A lot confuse this. Every single character in the so-called Toon style are just the same name as normal. They just happen to come from WW as an artstyle first. Or it's a name in a spin-off only game.

"This cartoonish version of Link is how he appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and a few other titles. In Smash Bros., he uses moves much like his older, taller counterpart. His small size gives him extra speed, though, so take advantage of that to send your foes flying.
This cartoonish version of young Link is how he appears in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and a few other titles. While he shares some moves with his older counterpart, he's a very different fighter. Take advantage of his size and speed to whirl past enemies and bombard them with long-range attacks.

: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (03/2003): The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (12/2009) "

So again, same guy in Smash. They were never meant to be a separate character at all. I used to think this too, but then I bothered to read Smash 4's Trophy list and realized all they did was represent Toon Link in an NPC role too.

Usually if Smash has a character who has had been multiple different individuals in their series, they will appear in Smash as a sort of blend between many of those individuals' defining traits.

One of my childhood misconceptions from Melee, which I think a lot of people shared.

Special Moves are inherently better than Normal moves, and you should only use them ever.
Oh man, I remember the first time I played Smash 64. A friend of mine owned the game and let me verse him.
I instantly picked Mario. I figured out how to use his FireBall.

The opponent is far from me? Fireball.
The opponent is near me? Fireball.
There's a bomb in front of me? Fireball.
I'm falling off the stage? Fireball.

... I think I could beat Zero with those strats.

Well Smash doesn't really care about the canon of anyone for the most part.
:ultfalcon: just look at him
Just look at the Zelda screen from K. Rool's reveal trailer
Or :ultsimon: and :ultrichter: coexisting

Megaman and Megaman X are part of the same timeline, but I don't know if they are considered part of the same franchise.
That’s not how it works, Mega Man is a media franchise and Mega Man X would be a subset of the Mega Man franchise. Mega Man X would be referred to as a “series” separate from Classic Mega Man.

Playing Mario requires skill, they said.

They are pretty cool. But I don't have any copies on me anymore. I want a collection for them a lot.

Speaking of Battle Network. I hope some tracks get added like MMX.

My point is it's still just Toon Link as he appears in his Spirit Tracks outfit as an NPC. They're only different characters because one's an NPC version. That's the sole difference between 'em. It has nothing to do with one being a Spirit Tracks variation, as Toon Link's own trophy states one of his games is Spirit Tracks.

A good example would be how Knuckles is an AT and a stage element. Since they both show up, there's simply 2 Knuckles in the game. It's in the same sense as that. Still the same overall character in Smash regardless, though.

*literally the same age as you* :yoshi:

Fun Fact: I was born EXACTLY 80 days after the original Japanese release of Super Mario World and thus my spirit animal...

:] I don’t feel lonely anymore! Though for someone my age, I seem to write a lot when it comes to Smash speculation. Don’t take me for granted just because I’m at a young age!

Now that I think about it, I should probably start learning more about the folks here.

I've been lurking this site since I was 11 back in early '13 and didn't make an account until I was 12 and remembered "wait lying on the internet is a thing?"

YOU'RE ALL A BUNCHA OLD FARTS.
THE WEAK DEVOUR THE STRONG
THE YOUNG SHALL INHERIT THE BOARDS.
God please I would stay young now and I'm not even a year older than you. I don't want to have to deal with taxes and student debt.

They should give Toon Link his train driver skin. The new model on the ST stage is so high quality. They may as well make it a skin.

Well, I like long walks on the beach, girls with red hair, and the Pokemon series to a massive degree.
