Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

As far as a port for Smash 4 goes, I'm not getting my hopes high at all. I'm at least expecting at least most of the stages from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS to be brought over, though I think all of the Wii U content will remain. Smash Run is another possibility, though that's a little questionable imo. I'm not expecting anything aside from all of the DLC content being pre-included as far as characters are concerned. Maybe, just MAYBE I can see them willing to add in Ice Climbers as they were actually intended to be in Smash 4, but even that's stretching it. Inkling and Spring Man for a Smash 4 port seems unlikely imo. Keep in mind that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe barely had anything new at all ignoring Battle Mode and five-six characters depending weather you count Gold Mario or not (which I don't but that's beside the point).

With all that said, I would take Smash 5 over Smash 4 Deluxe (or whatever) any day.

If there's a Sm4sh port, I hope they spend as little time on it as possible, as that would imply to me that more effort is being devoted to a sequel.

I can see us getting Ice Climbers, Wolf, and maybe a couple of newcomers (Inkling comes to mind immediately, as do Dixie Kong, Captain Toad, and Elma) if we end up getting a port. That said, I don't think it's crazy to have a new Smash game after a theoretical port somewhere down the line.

So basically, you want Smash 3DS with the 3DS graphics on Switch.

That's just never gonna happen.
Well would it be harder to port Wii U games or 3DS games to the Switch? That should also be taken into account.

One could theoretically say that it'd be easier to port Super Smash Bros. for Wii U to the Switch than Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, as the 3DS and Switch are drastically different consoles.

I'm personally looking forward for a Sm4sh port. For 2 main reasons: My Smash WiiU disc is broken so now my only way to play it is at my friend's house as he has both versions and 2:

I want Cloud back.

If a port is coming it'll be decently fleshed out at least. I'd say at least 3 newcomers, plus 3DS and Wii U stages, Smash Run and Tour, and a couple of returning vets.

No way they will just squeeze one out without any work. Look at MK8. Or Pokken DX. Or even Tropical Freeze.

I'd say a Sm4sh port definitely needs new and/or improved content. If even Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze of all games got something new when it got ported to Switch, they have no excuse to not make a Smash 4 port "the definitive version of Sm4sh."

I even made a quick laundry list of things I'd like to see in a Sm4sh Deluxe, and I can share it here if ya guys want

I still think a new Smash is more likely, maybe it'll reuse a fair bit from Smash Wii U, but enough new stuff to be called a new games.

We've had too many new stuff since the last Smash that a port would likely feel outdated.

Smash 4 has been out for a while now. If they want to make it feel fresh yet again with a port for the Switch, I believe that huge balance changes will also happen together with the new stuff coming

But they still won't buff Puff :troll:
For real though, if they do a Sm4sh port, I really hope that even if they don't do a "second wave" of DLC or anything like that they'd still put out balance patches. Puff and Triple D especially need some love

...Of course, if they include port-exclusive characters I'd feel that balance patches are a given.

I say Smash for Switch is going to look exactly like Smash 4 in play-style and looks. It might look slightly better in the Switch, and playstyle might be Smash 4's, because casuals / competitive people seem to agree on Smash 4's mechanics.

After all this time, I think if they were going to announce an enhanced Smash 4 port, they would have done it already. The Smash 4 ship has sailed.

I fully believe that they're working on a full-fledged sequel instead. Probably with all the current characters returning, to make use of their amiibo.

No they don't.
Yes they do, do your research. Okay maybe not Melee fans, but it's competitive community is a lot less controversial than the Brawl one. + competitive Melee players have fun with this even. It is definitely easy to go competitive in that game. Casuals also have fun with the game, obviously. I feel Smash for Switch will be the same, appealing to the Casuals and Competitive fans on the go ( more fast paced than Brawl but less than Melee ).

I think it's gonna be a port in the sense that all the assets are taken from the previous game. Maybe the characters get some minor graphical upgrades, but everything else will be as if it were a new game and the game would be sold as "Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch".

No they don't.
Please flesh out your posts more with detailed thoughts on the matter instead of just saying no. Basically, it just helps the thread continue with more thought filled posts.

Saying no they don't is also very broad. Just as Shiny saying that Competitive and Casuals agree is also broad. All in all some agree, some don't.

Oh I wouldn't say so. We're getting ports of Bayonetta, Tropical Freeze, and Hyrule Warriors this year meaning ports are definitely still in the cards. Why is Smash the only exception to the rule of possibility?

The Smash 4 Deluxe ship has hardly sailed, but it's becoming less likely more and more as time goes on. We just recently got yet another port not that long ago. It's still quite possible we could get one, but as I said, I don't consider it that likely.

If the veterans get ported from Smash for Wii U, what non character/stage content would you like to see in the new game?

True that. My main suffered a fall from greatness in Sm4sh, though he could be worse off than he is, I suppose.

Jigglypuff seriously needs improvement. The poor puff has been one of the least viable characters since Brawl, now.
Honestly, I wouldn't expect anything to get better for Jigglypuff unless by circumstance going forward.

Being the token "joke" character (especially now that Pichu's gone) means Jigglypuff is meant to suck.

I kind of liked the fact that Wii U's Classic Mode was fairly unique, but it was still sometimes unfair. I think combining the design of both of Smash 4's classic modes while returning mini-games(more or less similar to Melee's idea) is a good way to spruce it up. I'd like Break the Targets back, but I can understand why that's a bit harder to do now that there's a ton of characters. They were designed with the movesets in mind, after all(same with Board the Platforms). It'd be very difficult to balance that around, so a more generic version isn't too big of a deal at this point. It'd be neat if it was applied to Series instead of a character or purely generic, though. So Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc.

Besides that, I liked how coin launcher was a bit more unique, but we still should have a shop and/or lottery too~

My apologies. I actually stated my reason up there quoting psy's quote, but you are right in a way. The competitive and casuals will always try a game no matter what, even if the game is different. When they tried Brawl, many fans learned about it and thought they can make a profit with MK, as they learned that he had the advantages in Brawl's nature. Either way, you are right. Is this statement too broad as well?

Yoshi's Story. I like Randall the Cloud ( even though the cloud does not have a name ). Yoshi's Story is just so fun to play at, with the short death zones. Keep the Smash for Wii U Final Destination, that is by far my favorite Final Destination stage.
Smash for Switch I feel will probably look the best out of all of the Smash games, I have high hopes for it!

Exactly. I do not see them increasing puff to make her a competitive threat. They want her to make her more of a funny type of character, where disrespecting opponents is extremely disrespectful. Probably the only joke character in Smash 4 right now.

For me:
  • Personal "Break The Targets" stages.
  • Assist Trophies and custom moves for DLC characters
  • Adventure Mode
  • Smash Run
  • Revamped characters like Ganondorf, Fox, Falco, and Wolf
  • Battlefield form for all stages
  • Stages for EarthBound and F-Zero
And the possibility for more newcomers because of less focus on veterans really brings more possibilities. We could get Pokemon from the last 2 gens, additions to third party IPs (Terra Bradford), and other characters that just wouldn't be overall likely or prioritized, like maybe even Toon Zelda or ****ing Geno.

So apparently Nintendo Online should happen in September of this year. A good online game to go along with that seems reasonable. Smash, anyone?

The fact it's paid online isn't necessarily a good thing, so maybe making the game available earlier or later than the online reveal for the actual release date could work better. I mean, Smash costs 60 dollars, at least, I'm sure, so...

What game do you think will be the focus in the next Smash Bros for each franchise

Eg: Smash Wii U/3DS gave extra attention to Metroid Other M, Skyward Sword, Pokemon X and Y, Kirby was Super Star again, Awakening and Uprising basically the game that will give us the stage and most of their trophies.

I think it's safe to say though Odyssey and Breath of the Wild will get special attention though

Same will likely go for Xenoblade 2, Metroid Prime 4 (or maybe Samus Returns) Yoshi Switch.

I think we'll probably see Tropical Freeze and Pokemon Switch stuff.

And please, for the love of all things good, give us a modern Kirby stage. PLEASE

If it releases in time, Pikmin 4

Is Pikmin 4 even still happening?

Yep. It's releasing at the same time as the supposed Luigi's Mansion 3 game that hasn't been talked about since the summer of 2015.

Since we're talking about the probability of a Smash port, is there anyone here who DOESN'T want to see Smash Wii U ported to Switch? I understand why people would want it, but I'm not really holding my breath for it. There has been so much going on with Nintendo since the release of Smash Wii U in November 2014. We got Splatoon, BotW, Odyssey, Sun and Moon, Xenoblade 2, Kirby Star Allies, and the announcement of Prime 4, Pokemon Switch, and FE Switch. If Nintendo were to release a port now, there's just no way they'd be able to represent all of that. At best, we'd probable get about 3 characters and a couple of new stages. By the time the next real Smash game comes out, it could be close to the end of the Switch's lifespan, meaning that the time between Smash Wii U and Smash Switch would be the longest gap between Smash releases.

I don't know about you, but that's an awfully long time to wait for Smash.

I could see everyone wishing for Fire Emblem, Zelda and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 themed-game. :p

This. A Smash Wii U port would be a very disappointing idea and bland as well. Just making Smash 4 on the Switch is a very bad idea, but I doubt they will do that again. They should actually make a legit Smash sequel, with more uniqueness and relation to the recent Nintendo trends.
Switch is the best console of the year in my opinion. :shades:

I would rather have a new Smash game, meaning new Melee type physics, and a slightly different art style, e.g., no rocket trails when people get hit.

  • Smash Run (maybe with one or two extra maps)
  • 3DS Classic mode
  • Brawl All-Star mode - With so many franchises, it's become too tedious for that now, though.
  • Battlefield mode for every stage
  • An easy way to unlock custom moves, like a shop
  • Fourside music to be in the game

I dunno, I could see Smash Switch being ”Splatoon’d”, as in clearly using the previous game as a base but building onto that enough to justify it as a sequel/new game. Physics and artstyle would probably remain the same though, Smash 4 was already better in both compared to Brawl, so I wouldn’t mind.

I also believe we'll get a new smash game. If they announce it this year, for example, it would release next year which would be a 4/5 years distance from Smash 4 which isn't too close. Melee itself came only 2 years after Smash 64 so it's definitely not impossible to happen.

I think it's too late for a Smash 4 Port. If they wanted it I think it would have been released in 2017. I know there are still games being ported in 2018, but Smash is an entirely different beast.

I wouldn't want a port. The content would be too outdated. Since Smash 3DS/WiiU, we've seen releases for:

Mario
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam (2015)
Paper Mario: Color Splash (2016)
Super Mario Run (2016)
Mario Sports Superstars (2017)
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle (2017)
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions (2017)
Super Mario Odyssey (2017)
Mario Tennis Aces (2018)
(Not sure about it mattering about new sports titles releasing)

The Legend of Zelda
Tri Force Heroes (2015)
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (2015)
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)
(There have also been 3 separate release for Hyrule Warriors, but I doubt we'd see any content from those)

Kirby
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (2015)
Kirby: Planet Robobot (2016)
Team Kirby Clash Deluxe (2017)
Kirby's Blowout Blast (2017)
Kirby Battle Royale (2017)
Kirby Star Allies (2018)

Metroid
Metroid Prime Federation Force (2016) (I can't believe I'm acknowledging this one...)
Metroid Samus Returns (2017)
Metroid Prime 4 (2019?)

Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (2014)
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (2018 EP)

Fire Emblem
Fire Emblem Heroes (2017)
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (2017)
Fire Emblem Warriors (2017)
Fire Emblem [tentative title] (2018?)

Yoshi
Yoshi [tentative title] (2018)
(I didn't add Poochy + Yoshi's Woolly World here as there's a Yoshi's Woolly World stage in Smash WiiU)

Splatoon
Splatoon (2015)
Splatoon 2 (2017)

Star Fox
Star Fox Zero (2016)
Star Fox Guard (2016)
Star Fox 2 (2017)

Pokémon
Pokémon Omega Ruby (2014)
Pokémon Alpha Sapphire (2014)
Pokémon Rumble World (2015)
Pokémon Sun (2016)
Pokémon Moon (2016)
Pokkén Tournament (2016)
Great Detective Pikachu (2016)
Pokémon Ultra Sun (2017)
Pokémon Ultra Moon (2017)
Pokkén Tournament DX (2017 EP)
Pokémon [tentative title] (2018?)

Pikmin
Hey! Pikmin (2017)

Just a hand full.
