I'm thinking three unique and three echo. Which ones, however, depend on whether or not Isabelle is an echo or is unique.

Always nice to see people remember the work I did. That was a long 2.5 years covering everything. Glad to just sit back and ride this one out this time rather than being glued to my phone 24/7. Now I can survive being glued 22/7 and have 2 hours for some other parts of life.

Oh wow! It's awesome to actually see the guy who made this big doc back in the day still around. I had been using it as reference over the last week so to see it color coded now is awesome.

Any type of Gen VII Pokemon can't be considered a fan favorite if Sakurai chose them before November 2016. There's also the possibility of characters Nintendo personally asked Sakurai to add, but I'm not sure who those would be. Spring Man maybe?



Incineroar is grossly underrated. He'd probably be more popular if so many people didn't expect Decidueye early on.

I wouldn’t say Isaac or Geno. Isaac is owned by Nintendo and would be way easier to implement than Geno, considering he’s owned by Square, and judging by Final Fantasy’s song collection, Square isn’t being too generous. But I do hope he gets in so fans are happy.

On the plus side, he apparently seems to have done okay enough in polls so far according to some research somebody compiled from the Smash 4 days:

Elaborating on my earlier comment, if I had to guess who the new characters we'll see are, I'd say:

Unique:
1 - Geno
2 - Isaac
3 - Bandana Dee
4 - Skull Kid

Echo:
1 - Isabelle
2 - Shadow
3 - Octolings
4 - Impa
5 - Felix (Isaac Echo)
6 - Dixie Kong

If I get even one of these right, I'll consider it a miracle.

Oh wow! It's awesome to actually see the guy who made this big doc back in the day still around. I had been using it as reference over the last week so to see it color coded now is awesome.

It amazes me being just one person with a love for Smash that tried to do something different with Smash 4 and glad people still remember the work I did even after all these years. I am much more a lurker than participant on smashboards. My effort now is keeping my Smash Ultimate information sheet updated.

You're under the mistaken assumption I said Simon was a safe bet. This entire discussion started because I said Isabelle is a safe bet, and that others felt the same when Verg leaked her, which he did before Simon was revealed. Simon was always the least safe of his characters.

I mainly threw them in there for the simple fact that I think they wanted to hold off on newcomer echo fighters until after Richter, otherwise people would have probably figured Richter/Shadow were easier guesses. Or perhaps due to how recent the Octolings were as playable, they might have not been ready for E3.

It's worth mentioning that, among casuals, half of the Pokémon playing audience will have never seen Buzzwole; but, assuming they at least beat the game, every player will see Incineroar; either the Player (assuming they don't bench their Litten), Hau or Kukui will have it.

True. I've been hearing that the Inklings are based on Splatoon 1, and if the Octolings were made sometime this year or last year, then they probably would've been too late to put in Smash

Brian Beacock, Lloyd's voice actor in ToS2, commented on it and it led to that thread. He is also a guest at this upcoming con.

Banjo is definitely gonna be in this time. I don't care if he's Microsoft, my gut is telling me he'll be the one huge character reveal to top them all. If we get 4 more reveals I'm pulling for Banjo, Geno, Isaac, and Shantae. I think the whole Skull Kid and K Rool tease people are pointing out is buying into the hype way too much, and until the only leaker that has a consistent track record and in my eyes can be trusted (Vergeben) says something about Skull Kid I'm not buying it.
